The best part is the commissioner gives it to the captain first instead of the owner

  2. Yumhotdogstock

Nobody pays a dime to see an owner do anything. Half the time they inherit the team, or are some rich person who buys it not giving a shit about the history. Nor do many look like they have played a sport in their lives.

Give the trophy to the people who deserve them, the people who actually win them..

  3. It’s been a tough few years for the Kroenke family, don’t judge.

  4. This_Idiot

As a Leafs fan, I don’t know what any of these trophies are.

  5. Interplay29

    It is this simple:

NBA, NFL, MLB, you win a copy of the trophy.

    NHL, you win the trophy.

    The only one.

The one your childhood idol raised over his head? That’s the same one you’re attempting to win; not some stupid copy.

Oh, is this that Stanley Cup that all the girls are into?

  7. IamBobSacomano

Getting a hard on about a guy getting handed a trophy lol. This sub never ceases to amaze me

  8. HockeyTownHooligan

It’s kind of a dumb trickle down economics dog and pony show. Like the owners made it all happen with their hard work, lol. The players do 99% of the work and the owners hire the management and coaches. The trophy should be presented to the players.

  9. tecate_papi

All of the other leagues had decades of seeing the Stanley Cup and instead made their stupid little toy trophies that don’t even come close.

  10. DJspinningplates

Lol baseball not even being included is the cherry on top

I’m sure the Super Bowl is better football, but this is unironically like 1/3 of why I watch the CFL over the NFL. The Grey Cup is as old (maybe older? Idk) than the Stanley Cup so it’s got that vibe to it.

It is straight up insane how owners and managers are never seen until it’s time to get handed a trophy. Should always go to the players first. It’s great how in hockey every player gets their time to raise the cup on the ice, and then it gets to management and owners and staff.

  13. Ya, you’re right, that first guy is definitely a vampire.

  14. Writerhaha

    Never liked that.

All of these owners have egos, some more than others, but if my guys busted their ass for years to get here and pull it out, I’ll lift it later, y’all fellas celebrate.

Life’s too short to not enjoy it as brothers.

The other leagues give everyone a copy of the league trophy. There is only one (well, 3 actually) Stanley Cup(s)

  16. Agreed, it really shows what’s important in the various leagues. Ownership is all about money. Giving it to the captain recognizes the sacrifice the players make to attain the honor of hoisting the cup. Still the greatest trophy in the four major sports; maybe in all of pro sports.

  17. The NHL was the first to present the trophy in front of the fans. For decades in the NFL, NBA and MLB they handed the trophy over in the locker room.

  18. Obvious_Exercise_910

Better than the handoff is before.

Other sports other people touching it, rubbing it.

Hockey it’s all white gloves, captain is first to touch with bare hands.

  19. liquidpig

The Grey Cup is just as good a trophy. Certainly comparable to the Stanley Cup.

  20. ringrangbananaphone

This is why hockey is the best sport. Yes it’s a business but it’s first a team and it’s not about one rich person.

  21. Fit_Mess4686

Why is every single commissioner a complete loser.

  22. Zestyclose-Middle717

Fuck Stan Kroenke. Scum bag human being.

  23. AnyCarpenter4946

If you make it won game it would.
    Instead off seven.

  24. commanderr01

NBA and nfl can keep their dinky little trophy’s while the nhl plays for a real trophy!!

Hockey patting itself on their backs despite their sport being far less popular….possibly even boring.

No no, all good, you like hockey, and that matters!

  27. Desperate_Pizza700

I’m so happy Landy was able to lift the Cup. If he never plays another game in his life, he will always be “oh captain, my captain”!
