NHRA Funny Car driver Jack Beckman Walks away from HUGE engine explosion

Jack Beckman’s Infinite Hero Dodge Charger exploded and shreded the composite shell at the eighth-mile mark during the third qualifying session at the 2016 NHRA New England Nationals at New England Dragway. Beckman kept the car straight in his lane. Only the nose of the body remains attached to the car. The manifold and the case of the supercharger are split apart.

  1. Maybe the worst Funny Car explosion i've ever seen-Jack's OK,which is a testament to the NHRA's safety requirements.

  2. ….well nhra you created this mess.
So Glad Jacks ok…I agree with worst ever.
(leave it on pause and do a frame by frame at 17 to 19 seconds)

  3. I was there. I swear for a split second everyone in the stands thought this was much worse for Jack than it actually was. I was at the pit when they towed the car back too. Literally nothing left of the engine. It was split in two and the blower was totally destroyed.

  4. The motor tried to warn him. He couldn't get off of it fast enough to save it. At least he's okay.

They'll put in the spare motor and throw the spare body on it and be ready in 75 minutes for the next heat.

  5. When the safety equipment works and the driver can walk away, then what we have is a good recording of a kickass real life explosion. This kind of destruction is pleasing to me. That's the thrill of the sport even for spectators.
