COLE PERFETTI BROKE THE CODE!

You know the saying, “Snitches get Stiches”…… Well, it happened in an NHL game lol. I had to jump on to chime in on this because one of hockeys biggest “unwritten rules” was just broken and it seems like this is what people want? … I don’t know. In a drama filled NHL season, I didn’t have players snitching in the media on my bingo card.

Let me know in the comments if you think this was way over blown or if Cole Perfetti was right about speaking up to the media about this event.

  1. I disagree a bit with your perspective on this and some others who subscribe more to the old-style boys club/unwritten rules of Hockey code. I agree to an extent that the drama was unnecessary and Perfetti probably didn't need to address this specific incident to the media and rock the boat but the media was already speculating, hence the question in the first place. But, I think that the culture of the NHL is changing – he's young and isn't really the right target for retaliation in this situation and he looked a bit frustrated. In my opinion, there are only two reasonable targets to retaliate: one is Brenden Dillon directly since he delivered the cheap shot on Kaprizov, or two: a willing fight with someone from the Jets who is up for it (like Lowry). A cheap shot off the draw actually is big deal and honestly a cowardly move in my opinion. It's one thing to lose your cool or look for intent to injure during the heat of a game (like Dillon) but to decide after a faceoff break to cheap shot a player who had nothing to do with the initial incident is the part that feels cowardly. If you as a player or team are mad, fight it out. Don't just smack someone with your stick. I think that's why Perfetti "breaking the code" feels justified. Ryan Hartman made a cowardly move that appears intentional and Perfetti isn't shy to call it out. Also, just going to say the The Hockey Code has led to keeping some pretty horrific things quiet (Blackhawks, Crosby's treatment, concussion issues with players like Paul Kariya) so maybe it's time to stop giving bad behaviour a pass and always responding with more violence and cheap shots.

  2. Hartman should have received an immediate penalties 5 min major intent to injure , 10 game misconduct ,ejection and 10 game suspension automatic no appeal
retaliation needs to be eliminated, including anything that could be evenly remotely construed as retaliatory; given a major penalty, a game misconduct, and an automatic 10 game suspension with no appeal
simplify the rules , the rule book is hundreds of pages when a maximum of a couple of dozen is more than enough
official's job is to enforce the rules, all the rules, all the time, to the letter!

  3. What other profession has assault and battery as part of its "code"? Make all things reviewable and have the league sort things out immediately or after the game.

  4. Idk…. doesn't seem like too much here Tbh?? I didn't think either were really out of line, although I get whole." what's said on the ice, remains on the ice" code, but why TF are the reporters hounding the players for sound bites?? Seems more like a situation created by them more then the players. But who knows… I'm just a fan. Lol

  5. Funny hearing Perfetti get ridiculed over the Code when Hartman hasnt ever played within the Code ever. Hes a Rat. Its like justifying a car thief cause the owner of the car jaywalked to stop his car from being stolen.

  6. The "code" should be things like challenging another player to a fight. Sticking another guy in the face who had nothing to do with it, there's nothing to honoured in that. A gutless move by Hartman so I see no problem with Perfetti pointing it out. Telling him to shut up and just take it will lead to more secrets being hidden (aka Chicago).
Challenge one of their players to fight is the code, not sticking a guy in the face intentionally.

  7. Every time something like this happens, however insignificant it is, all the soccer fans come out screaming how "we" need to change hockey.

  8. At 67 who was an enforcer of the old code never marked anybody up with my stick let alone a smaller player. Far as I am concerned players around the NHL will thank for the heads up.

  9. Switching? If it happens on the ice, it's fair game, end of story. Locker room stuff, off the ice stuff, you don't talk about it. A DELIBERATE intent to injure, you don't let that shit slide.
