[Hall] Keep an 👀on KHL forward Maxim Tsyplakov. The Rangers are reportedly scouting him with interest in bringing him over to the NHL. The 25-year-old Russian has 25 goals this year (4th most in the KHL) for Spartak Moskva

  1. Well we could certainly use a RW with some scoring touch

Where does he fit? Do you play him bottom 6 or throw him onto the top line

I know nothing about this guy, but I would be in favor of anything that keeps us from continuing to trade first round picks for rentals at the deadline.

  4. For anyone thinking he’d come mid-season this year, that’s a no-go since he’s still under contract with his KHL team.

Even if he could somehow buyout his contract, he’d still need to pass through waivers as a European free agent. It’s incredibly unlikely he’d make it to us based on claim order.

Would probably have more than Kakko’s 4 points

This almost has to be a long term project no? He can’t even come until their season is done which at minimum I think is around March.

We already got Panarin to sweet talk him, if we could grab him in the off season that would be massive. Suddenly I’m a lot more optimistic about next year’s roster

How many times we gonna fall for this sheet? 🙂 🙂 🙂

That makes a top 9 of (in no particular order): Mika Kreider Tro Bread Laf Kakko Chytil Cuylle and Tsyplakov. Fuck yeah

  10. Just kinda wanna note that it’s ok to temper expectations when good overseas players come to the NHL. A lot of the time, prolific scorers come over and their game just doesn’t translate. Sometimes it’s the physicality, but a lot of times it’s the speed. Not only is the ice physically smaller, but NHL players make decisions so quickly that it can be hard for established players in other leagues to come over and have the same impact. You don’t have the same time and space to make a play.

Players like Panarin are the exception, not the rule.

I love you all but the amount of dumb (finally, a first line RW! OMG our top 9!) takes in these comments is painful.

Dug in on a few different prospect resources. Kid is so far under the radar we need sonar to get anything on him. Played a few games on the same Russian u20 Junior team in 17-18 that Kravtsov did, but that’s it for International play. Never drafted, never had a training camp invite as far as I can tell. His 25 goals this season come courtesy of a 20% shooting percentage, twice his career average.

For reference New Jersey Devils legend and convicted sex offender Reid Boucher leads the KHL in goal scoring, alongside NHL washouts such as Nikita Gusev, Nikolay Goldobin, Jordan Weal, and one time Wolf Pack member Maxim Letunov.

It’s entirely possible he’s a late bloomer – not sure he’s big enough to fit the big man / power forward late development curve – but stranger things have happened. Recent reports have him linked to the Bruins, Leafs, Coyotes and others. He could blow the doors off whatever teams signs him, but it’s unlikely he slots above the bottom 6 on any NHL team (including this year’s Sharks or Hawks, seriously).

In other words, if we sign him the kid better learn to pronounce “Hartford”. Mostly kidding. He’d be, at best, a potential depth option to replace Wheeler after this season or shore up the 4th line while another solution is found for the 3rd line.

One in a million chance (cue the Lloyd Christmas gifs) he goes Panarin on the NHL, never say never, but this isn’t likely to be some Drury roster voodoo that’s putting us over the top.
