Iain MacIntyre on Andrei Kuzmenko, Canucks deadline plans and more
Sportsnet Canucks Writer and Analyst Iain MacIntyre joined the guys and talked about the win over the Blackhawks, Andrei Kuzmenko’s performance and more.
Pass by Kuz to Suter and his hustle, although disorganized, but hus hustle and speed, might save his job here, just in time to organize his cycle game and slot in on any top 3 line for s playoff run.
Even after doubling up, crowding his teammates and overtaking yhe puck from them in certain spots, Kuzmenko's undeniable speed and hustle bought us that Suter goal, and the last one too.
Gosh darn it dont move lekker or willander….if the team is good enough to win, theyre good enough to win, getting a player like guentzel wont change it accept decimating teams future. Key is to keep contending year after year for the cup like the bruins.
2:15 They all talk about the confidence of Kuzmenko?!?! WTF is he talking about? It appears all they are doing is trying to tear down his confidence. The team, and the media have tried to make Kuzmenko the whipping boy, but it's not working. The fans are not buying it. He had 39 goals last year, and he is a very popular guy. No matter how much the media wants a whipping boy, the fans are falling for it.
I think Kuzmenko has discipline problems and he got on the coach's bad side due to less than NHL level professionalism. And Tocchet is fixing that. He's met a million guys like Kuzy. He's a project. No need to trade this great player. Plus before Hronek, Kuzy was Allvin's signature accomplishment. It looks bad on the team to dump the star they courted.
The other thing Kuzmenko did besides set up plays was getting to the dirty areas. I saw him multiple times behind the opposition’s net and his own fighting for pucks. The 2nd goal was created by him winning a puck battle to a teammate, who set up Hughes. Anyone who says he has discipline or behaviour problems is just speculating with zero evidence. If he plays like he did last night, Tocchet will reward him. He’s always seemed teachable, but if you’ve only played one way all your life and I’m sure in the KHL, he was only there for his offense, especially towards the end, so there’s been a steep learning curve. It seemed like last game, a lightbulb went off and he figured out what to do to be successful and how to go about doing that. He can’t just play hard when he has the puck or hover around the slot for a pass. He has to play hard in all situations and if he does that, he’ll have success. Hopefully, lesson learned.
at this level any team can beat any other team with the right conditions. Coaching your players like they are adults helps a lot. practice to win and believe in yourself.
yeah i keep pointing this out to edm fans and ther 13 game winning streak.. canucks have been equally playing well.. 13 game winning streak is no joke.. thats like 26 points.. but essentially canucks have literally let them gain close to zero ground on the gap..
Ian when do big moves at the trade deadline work? Pretty much NEVER. What is wrong with you guys? Canucks want depth rentals at low cost or nothing. This team needs low cost players moving forward and have to keep their prospects. We are in first place and don't need to trade our future in the slim hope of getting better.
I have and will continue to beat this drum of NOT trading Lekkerimaki or Willander in an effort to go "all in" this yr, and my logic is simple…this organization has not had a decent prospect pool in so many yrs and now that we've kinda started to fill it up a little I feel it will be too high of a risk depleting it again just to get someone like an aging Guentzel or another player who we most likely won't be able to afford in terms of big picture because of our own internal priorities such as Pettersson and Hronek. I just feel if this organization think they are good and good enough this yr to do it, then just stick with what we got that got us this far already and just have confidence and go from there. I just think if we trade our 1st rounders and high prospects again, we are just doing what we have been doing for so long these past few yrs only to end up getting our hopes up not getting rewarded and just emptying our drafts and prospects arsenal all over again.
Who are these or any asses that want to just pick on Kuzmenko for some reason? I can pick out many 1 games where Miller or Hughes or Peterson didnt make the plays for that game ie where was Miller vs Chicago? What players cant have 1 bad games? lol what a joke
Being outshot simply means that the Canucks are being choosy, and it's working. I don't understand every media outlet harping in concert to these ends?
Make a hockey trade, or don't make a trade at all. The Canucks can't afford to wager the future for a rental player. Greedy Petey is trying to hold the team for ransom, and the Oliver Ekman-Larsson buyout will be enough to work around. This team needs it's prospects !
I would trade this years 1st (24-32 range) + B/C level prospect (Raty, Brzustewicz, McDonough) for a top 6 centre. I'd put more value in a centre thats under contract next year as well But this management has shown they can ID cheap pro talent so I would trust their judgement whatever way they go about it
I would trade a 6th rounder for Reaves. He could open the ice up for the skill guys and allow this team to play bigger. We need the size in the play offs. The chemistry of this team has always benefitted from a great scrapper.Save the money and top picks,we can't rent and wish to resign what we have.I think this is our great chance.P.S. turn down the media this time around!

Something has him scared or something. i know he can do well but Toc scares him IMO.

Ian Macintyre doesn't know shit about trades lol
If Rick can get Kuz to play better defensely then he well become a everyday player. But until he does that he will be up for trade bait.
Ian’s got it. Smart man. Looks at the facts not just the hopes.
Good game for Kosmenko but lets get it done against better teams. What is going on with Mikheyev, he cannot score to save his life?

We All Know About Regular Season Success and what it means when the Playoffs start.

Clowns lol
Kuzy needs to find a good dentist and get off the perimeter.
I don't mind if they trade a good prospect but like Ian said it can't be just some short term rental.

Did Rick get the Geekie brothers mixed up?
Kuzmenko is back. And showed it big time. If he gets going, look out.

Keep kuzy
Iain is one of the few media guys in vancouver who isnt clueless about how teams are run.

The Canucks team want every opponent think they're a fluke…
Rentals are rarely worth the steep price. I hope they stay away from the guentzel and lindholm.
I will never miss what Ian got to say about the canucks !!

All in. Next season is not promised. Just look at the state of the world…
