It’s simple: market/fanbase size. New York, Toronto, Boston, Chicago will always be overrepresented whether they’re having good years or not and whether the individuals deserve it or not. The 5th best Rag will get more votes than the 2nd best Devil.
The funniest part is it’s completely meaningless (unless the player has ASG selection incentives in their contract), but there are fans who think it’s important. Last year a Rag fan in the NHL sub made the case there was no way the Rags—who finished behind us and lost the season series—should lose to the Devils in the playoffs, because they had more All-Stars. Meanwhile only one of those All-Stars got selected on merit. The rest just won a popularity contest.

The Rangers are a large market team that is evaluated as the 2nd most valuable NHL franchise. ASG means nothing. I hope he’s chilling on a beach with his GF for a few days before they get back to the grind.

I haven’t watched an ASG since the 90s but are we gonna ever get this idiotic game ever again??? It’s been like 40 years already and places like Montreal & Toronto have had it like almost 10 times already and even St louis has had it 3x. Even that dump across the river had it 3x.
