[D&D] Dhaliwal on trade targets: he was told Canucks are not interested in Monahan. Says Quinn Hughes told management Tanev is a guy they should target. Later in the show he mentions Canucks were scouting Arber Xhekaj, Giroux and Tarasenko in the Ottawa/Montreal game last night.

    LISTEN TO THE CAPTAIN!!!

Penguins go to Crosby for advice when targeting certain guys and I like to think Crosby has a LOTTT of influence on this stuff.

Monahan’s name out there concerned me, so this is nice to hear. 100% OK with the other names, albeit I didn’t think those are who we’d be targeting (although I’d imagine almost every team would be in on Xhekaj if he’s available).

Sign me up for Xhekej. I feel like that kid would thrive in the playoffs.

  4. ebb_omega

I still really like the idea of Kuz for Tarasenko 1-for-1. Even more if we can get some scraps alongside it.

Wifi will be pleased we have a Costco across the arena.

But why would we want him? Grit?

  6. SpectreFire

Absolutely would not want Tanev unless it’s for a song. Love the guy, but he’s 34, and trading any sort of significant asset for him would be a poor deal, especially considering there’s probably going to be a bidding war.

Xhekaj would be a really good get as a young LHD. His underlying numbers have been pretty decent in Montreal. Just no idea why they would want to get rid of him.

Giroux’s been my ideal target for 2C, much more so than Lindholm. Sure he’s older, but he’s a proven star player, great in the post-season, and just adds another big leadership element to the team. He’s a more legitimate 2C for what we want now than Lindholm is. The only question is if he’d want to leave Ottawa.

Everyone was scouting that game. Almost half the league was there.

Tanev would obviously slot into their starting 6 defenders, but it just feels like the asking price is going to get too high and Van doesn’t have that kind of cap space.

I know I don’t STFU about Bogosian, but to me he feels like the “~80% of the results for ~20% of the cost” version of Chris Tanev.

And then you can make a play for Tanev in the offseason.

  9. Spictacular

Is Messier healthy? I could see him ring chasing with us.

Hoping Xhekaj pulls through, guys hard not to like

  11. burnabybambinos

Tanev and Zucker, this roster doesn’t need star power, it needs veteran depth at 5on5 that’s been in some wars. The PP is already good enough to win games.

I’m soooo looking forward to seeing if Vancouver cooks anything up. It’s exciting. 😀

Canucks media aside from Paterson, Friedman, and Drance are pure garbage.

Dhaliwal either half makes up his inside information and spends most of the time commenting mindlessly on possibilities from rumors, quads is an arrogant little know it all asshole with no logic or info, listening to Kyle bhawans voice is bad for your mental health.

And sekeres and price are just buffoons, slap a computer sticker on your chest and call yourself reporters.

The only half decent vlogger is probably canuck clay, and only because he doesn’t overhype trash info and doesn’t pretend to be some super insider.

Seriously our media are awful, but Toronto has the Sdp three stooges so I guess it’s really a race to the bottom.

Been on the Giroux train for awhile. Would LOVE him as 2C. Good faceoff guy, leader, playoff guy, beautician, ginger. He’s got it all

  15. If there’s any way we can pick up Giroux without giving up too much that’d be a dream come true

  16. I would love to see Giroux.. But if we are going to give up actual assets I would much prefer it if we got someone younger.

I also just checked the Senators capfirendly and saw that they are paying Norris 8 million per. Is he really worth that contract?

  17. I guess we are all in this year. Hopefully the team doesn’t mortgage the future.

  18. fastcurrency88

In a vacuum Giroux is the exact player we need. A veteran centre with playoff experience who can still contribute at a high level. That second year left in his contract with that cap hit is probably what kills this deal which is unfortunate.

  19. MGM-Wonder

Hard pass on Tarasenko. I’ll take Kuzy over him any day

  20. Monahan is way past his prime. When I initially heard this I couldn’t understand why he would even be considered.

  21. Arber Xhekaj is Riley Stillman with fists, I wouldn’t pay more than like a 3rd to get him

  22. AverageMaleAged18-24

I don’t know if there’s any way the money would work, but adding Giroux and Tanev would absolutely put us over the top. Giroux is playing great hockey, drives his line and looks dangerous every time he has the puck. Tanev would solidify an already solid defensive core. Might cost us Myers as a cap casualty. I would take that upgrade though.
    IN: Tanev, Giroux
OUT: Myers, most likely Kuzmenko and a whole lot of picks.

  23. Only-Nature7410

I think i would shit myself if G was traded here. Damn.

  24. Ciro-Immortale

Lets allow this mgmt group and their professional scouting team target players, instead of players targeting players. We did that once with the Sedins wanting to bring in OEL, we will be paying for that mistake for some more years still!

  25. cowfromjurassicpark

Really whispered the Giroux stuff into existence

  26. TopTierTuna

Hopefully we don’t give up Willander, MakiAttaki, or HunterBru. Ideally, the highest we pay is a second. After that, surprise me.

  27. PaperMoonShine

Kent Hughes concerns me. I don’t know what he’d ask but I know he’d ask a major overpay for Arber.

  28. JerbearCuddles

Hughes is that Wolverine meme holding the picture. And the picture is of Tanev. I wonder what Calgary wants for him. Is there a world where we can nab Lindholm and Tanev and not give up Willander? Lol. Giroux is interesting. Why would Ottawa give em up? Great vet to have around your youngsters. Wonder what his ask is, I’d jump on that for the right price.

  29. ThatTesseractCat

What would it realistically take for us to pry Giroux out of Ottawa?

  30. nite_awol

Xhekaj is a long term project and Giroux would be the ideal rental.

I want Tanev back for Hughes, but if the Lames ask for more than Arsheep Bains I’m hanging up lol.

  31. Financial_Design_801

Tanev sounds great, on defense the team collapses around the net in an ugly way sometimes & not staying with their guys like cmon it’s 5 on 5… not playoff caliber stuff

  32. Whatever direction they go, for the first time, in a very long time, I have faith in the pro scouting department and in the GM to make a deal that isn’t a rip off! How nice is that!!!

  33. If we bring in Giroux I will literally shit myself (I mean this as a positive).

Also yes please bring back Papa Tanev, he should retire a Canuck.
