Ilya Samsonov will be between the pipes for the Maple Leafs against the Jets, his second straight start for Toronto. That’s Hockey discusses why tonight’s game is so important for Samsonov and whether there’s any chance he can still earn the trust back enough to feel confident in starting him in the playoffs. #7eleventhatshockey

The upcoming Leafsβ home game against the Jets, the only such game take place this season at Scotiabank Arena unless the two teams meet in the Stanley Cup final in June (the remaining game before the same postseason being an away game this coming weekend), will be critical for Samsonov assuming that, as expected, Sheldon Keene starts said goalie. Allowing <2 ugly goals will likely make it for Treliving a compelling case to keep Samsonov up at the NHL level but allowing 3 or more ugly goals will likely only put immense pressure on Treliving to waive Samsonov in favour of a non-Samsonov alternative from the minors.
I think rangers fans are bad πππ TORONTO. WHAT YOU GUYS DO TO YOUR OLAYERS AND THROW PEOPLE UNDER THE BUS WITH NARRATIVES LIKE THIS? DISGUSTING. YOU MAKE PLAYERS HATE HOCKEY AND YOU MAKE GOOD PLAYERS WANT TO GO ELSEWHERE. WHAT A STUPID TITLE. SAMSONOV HAS BEEN DECENT. YOU TALK ABIUT HIM LIKE HE HASNT WON A GANE AND CANT WIN A GAME. THE SAMSONOV HATE IS WILD.
Green one π
I sincerely hope you are right
Hayes has become the most opinionated talking head on TSN. But he can only complain about everything.
No solutions, just barf.
Biggest for Samsanov and biggest for Keefe, Leafs have to go get Gerard Gallant to coach
Iβm surprised they played in defensive posture tonight and left it up to one of the βgame-breakersβ
In this posture it will usually come down to Mathews, Nylander (Kyle Connor for the Jets) and that is probably a better plan.
Can the Leafs maintain this type of disciplined style as Seattle game on Sunday and the game vs the Jets? Probably not, but this should probably be the aim.
And he played like a alpha male
So much pressure and he delivered in the face of an atrocious performance in front of him. I'm not sure all of his saves were confident. he did look shaky on a few shots / play losing track of the puck.
When Woll comes back, I hope he is eased into his role as Samsonov's backup. It's his job to lose (again).
