[Paterson] EP40 on non-call in OT: ‘If ref misses it or not, looking back on the clip I had two turnovers to get them the puck. Whether it’s a non call or not it’s not up to me. I have to do a better job before then’

I was pretty sour on the OT and Petey in general that game, it’s nice to see the accountability.

Glad to hear this is his take too. I was dissapointed to see him turn to the ref after they scored given it was his tired rush the previous play that left him absolutely gassed on the back check.

Yes he wasn’t at his best, but that play was not only a crosscheck (2min penalty), but was done with no puck nearby that lead to a scoring chance- interference (2min penalty). I’m sure I’m biased, but there was two chances for the ref to call this off.

Damn right. Would’ve been better if he acknowledged falling like Bambi is less likely to get you calls too

Petey defenders keep telling us he’s never at fault. Yet Petey and Tocc both said he needs to do better. Fans gonna fan.

i feel like in the long run, it’s good for them to face these types of situations before the playoffs. better to falter when they have plenty of time to react to their mistakes in future games, and to learn what changes can/should be made on the ice before they’re in the playoffs and every single game matters. we’re in a fortunate position right now where they *can* lose games without it meaning they’ll miss the playoffs, and while i obviously don’t *like* to see them lose, there are a lot of things for the players to learn from games where they trail, or where they make bad decisions on the ice, as long as they use those lessons to be better in the future. hopefully petey takes that game and the critique from tocchet to level up even more!

One of the things I have really enjoyed is the accountability of this team. Should that play in overtime have been a penalty? Probably, yes. But he doesn’t blame the refs or anything like that. He steps up and says my bad and I will be better next time. If this was last year before Rick Tocchet took over, we don’t get a statement like this from the team.

Accountability starts with honesty, and if you can’t be honest, the accountability stops there. You know I gotta hand it to Tocchet. He’s got the guys buying into the accountability. Sometimes the truth hurts, but you can’t overcome it if you can’t own it.

Pissed off Petey incoming next game, hattrick on its way

I was pretty harsh on EPs form in OT yesterday, and I find myself regularly questioning his level of motivation and commitment when he’s in his little slumps.
Reading this makes me realise how wrong I’ve been – very classy response from him.

Championship mindset. The culture in Vancouver right now is such a fucking TREAT!
Let’s just hold onto it and appreciate while we have it :’)

Love it. Tocchet and Pettersson both come out of this sounding good.
