I can’t believe we just lost to the same team that dunked on us in the playoffs last year with a stunted roster. How could this have happened?
Nothing personal against Lindy, I don’t know the guy or even can say it’s his coaching thats the issue. But this team is defeated, disenfranchised, and has no spark due to all the circumstances they’re dealing with. Easiest way to get a moral boost is a new coach, it’s why it’s done so often. Maybe it’s time.
Every goalie we have just flat out sucks. Getting skated into the ground by a team that played in Boston last night is unacceptable as is only scoring two goals against Raanta who is horrible.
I wasn’t watching the game but made [this](https://imgur.com/a/wt2x9wm) after the first goal.
Allowed first goal 33/46.
Lindy got hot in the head by a puck on January 10th 2019, and on March 1st 2014.
Dudes literally on a 5 year schedule
Another game where they came out completely flat, got 0 offense going. Funny how we replace one thing mid game and pucks end up in the other net.
Good news is vitek looked sharp when he came in, hopefully he can keep that rolling. Balls in your court Fitzy, let’s fix this season and get the ball rolling.
Lindy sucks, our boys are broken, our goalies suck, I don’t care if we make the playoffs or not because we won’t make it far with what’s in net so it would be an exercise in futility anyway.
Boooooo
Any clip of the high stick challenge? Was at the game and they had no replay of the thing
Just not good enough. Need a big move in the form of coaching change or trade or this season is a bust. This group just hasnt had *it* all season, injured or not.
I’m not a Ruff fan, but the comments/jokes about him after getting actually hurt is really disheartening to see in this sub
I honestly thought they played fine. Clearly outplayed them the last 15 minutes of the first period, followed by two kinda unlucky goals. The second period was rough, but they easily could’ve made it a one-goal game much, much earlier in the 3rd.
Luke Hughes looked great, so hopefully he’s past the rookie wall. The break will only help.
Of course, the power play and overall passing left a lot to be desired. And after being everywhere on Monday, Timo wasn’t much of a factor.
You can’t overcome half the team dying, bad goaltending, your 2C being a fucking rapist, bad coaching, and a loaded division. It’s “one of those years.” We just have to suck it up and deal with the ridicule from the rest of the league until next season
I didn’t expect to win this one given that Carolina plays lights out defense, we’re icing half an AHL roster with 2 new guys just today, a single top 4 defenseman, and the dark cloud hanging over the team. What a shit year this has turned into.
And Lindy isn’t getting fired, at least not until the off-season and with a roster this depleted.
Why don’t we try to get Luca here hischers brother.
We’re so depleted that I can’t be furious about losing, but the way we lost bothers me. This team, as currently constituted, will never compete with the likes of Carolina. We have no physicality and can be moved off the puck at will. Carolina’s size, speed, and discipline is miles beyond what we can deal with. And, to top it off, our good players were absolutely invisible tonight. Timo Meier? I thought he was actually a scratch tonight. BTW, Toffoli has 20 goals and 33 points in 45 games as a Devil. Meier is at 18/32 in 53 games. Not good enough. I love Nico, but he had no impact. Luke has been regressing of late. It is amazing we are lingering around the playoff line at all.
Considering the events that happened yesterday, I can understand if the guys weren’t all there mentally. But still frustrating to see this not be a game until the 3rd period with us having 2 days rest with the canes traveling from Boston on a B2B. And regardless of what you think of McLeod right now, losing him is definitely gonna be a big blow to the team.
Fortunately there’s some good news. A lot of other teams in the metro division are finally starting to collapse. Flyers, Isles, Caps and even the Rags are all on big losing streaks right now and none of them have looked good at all lately. If we can take advantage of this we can jump up to 3rd or even 2nd for the division. Let’s just get the win at Tampa on Saturday before the ASB. We should get Nosek back by the end of the break, hopefully Jack too, and with Dougie on LTIR a trade seems inevitable. Get some guys back, get some defense/center/goalie and hopefully we can kick ass in February
I missed the game. Did the tv crew talk about the McLeod situation at all?
Well it’s early but the playoff race is coming into clear view. BOS/FLA/TBL/TOR will almost certainly make it, with one of them being locked into one of the two WC spots.
The way I see this playing out, is we’re competing for the 3rd Metro spot or the last WC. Which means we have to outperform all but one the following teams going forward: DET, PHI, NYI, PIT, WSH.
There’s half the season left. Are we projecting better play, the same or getting even worse? I would hope we have our best hockey in front of us as we get healthier. And you would hope the golatending could regress towards the mean in a positive way. As bad as it’s looked, there is a clear path to the playoffs which isn’t easy. But if we’re being honest, this team should be able to pull it off.
We did not come to play tonight I don’t know if its because the hurricanes are fast but it looked like we weren’t even trying for more than half the game and our goal tending has been the biggest issue daws should have stopped 2 of those 3 goals and our defense needs work for sure but I was just disappointed in our performance tonight
Hope Lindy is okay.
Anyone else find it comical that we’re so injury prone our fucking coach gets injured? Can’t make this shit up this season
Lindy Ruff is day-to-day with an upper body injury.
I watched the game. It was not fun. Felt like the Devils barely showed up for the majority of the game. But they did turn it on eventually, and generated a lot of good chances at that point. I’m seeing a common sentiment here that the score isn’t indicative of how one-sided the game was, but I don’t really agree. In the end, it felt like Raanta stood up to all the pressure we created and we couldn’t escape the hole we’d dug.
And hey, the analytics agree. Moneypuck had the Devils at 70% on the DTWOM, with expected goals 4.23-3.1 in favor of the Devils. Hockeystatcards had expected goals as 3.81-1.74 in the Devils’ favor. Naturalstattrick 3.81-1.96. Our power play was fucking atrocious, but realistically, we did hang with this team, despite not showing up for the first two periods, half the team being injured and all the emotionally-draining shit that happened yesterday.
Actual goals are ultimately the only stat that matters, but this was not a case of our team being blown out of the water. If our starting goalie plays even semi-competently, we’re very much in the game and possibly winning. I mean, that absolutely sucked, and I’m definitely not arguing otherwise. But I’m also not going to act like this one some humiliating dispatching of our team. We lost 3-2. If you want to not count the late goal, we lost 3-1. Our goaltending was really bad, theirs was pretty good. That proved to be the difference tonight.
Would you look at that, another game were we dont start when the game start.
Another game where we almost came back, woho
That was a tough one. This team is on the verge of facing reality – that even if Jack comes back, there won’t be enough time left in the season to gain lost ground. I would be sadder about that but this game pretty much proved that our guys don’t work hard enough out there for it to make a difference anyway. They work harder than some teams but not hard enough for the playoffs, let alone decimated. I would be madder about that but tbh, not only are we decimated but I think a coupla guys might still have the flu. Unless we win a bunch starting Saturday, let’s put Fitz at ease and sell off pieces.
Let’s hear it for Dowling – not for the goal but for all the other things he was doing well, brought some Lazar energy tonight.
