The team drama and watching Matthews score goals is highly entertaining. I've come to terms with having no expectations for this team and any substantive playoff run until the team salary structure and coaching staff changes. With these things in place, I'm having a wicked great time watching this team this year! (Maybe that's the corporate objective?) 😂

I went to my first Leafs/NHL game vs the Flames in Calgary. Before the game started, I told my buddies either the leafs will lose or Matthews will score a hattrick. I then had to tell them, maybe Matthews needs 4 for them to win.

Treliving is probably a nice person. When you are hiring a person to run a Pro sports team, nice doesn't cut it. You need experience in winning at that position, from some where. The story on Dubas was he won in Junior and he won in the "A". OK, Brad Treliving has won no where. He walked away from Calgary, where his trades apparently drove the coach nuts, they were not good deals. In TO he has not done better and you could say the team is less today than it was. That is my feeling. Shanahan did not hire Brad Treliving, a connection with Rogers board hired him.
You would have expected Shanahan would take the GM duties until he could find a qualified replacement someone with a back ground befitting the talent, and goals of the team. But no, the guy was picked by the Rogers Board, who frankly could care less if the team wins a Stanly Cup. The rink is always filled, you can buy TML merch in any small town in Canada. They have a core of celebrities, as a draw, that would be harder to keep if the team actually did win. I shudder think of the next draft, where the son of a friend, of an uncle, on the board is selected. Bush.
Trust me guys Conn Smythe is rolling in his grave. Fire the coach and shake and roll the dice on a big trade! Either that or ride it out and do some fancy footwork in the off season. Go Leafs! Go!
Think twice before you want Shanahan fired. Lamoriello, is a very good GM could be in the top echelon of all time NHL hockey brains. His leaving was very abrupt. He could have made tons more money. But as a real hockey guy, my thinking is he would not or could no longer, put up with the tampering from upstairs. On the bright side, look how many people make money on the back of TML, win or lose.
Your headline title says it all tge only good signing was Sam Benoit and Lagesson. Bert been horrible Domi stuck on cloud 9 from getting to play for his dream team.Reavo a huge joke and Klingberg what a joke. But am happy Sammy found his way again. If we miss the playoffs I would fire Shanny Brad Keefe and his 2 assistant and the goalie coach. Just my thoughts and frustration
I love your guys podcast, but you are 100% wrong about Edmonton. The turnaround is 100% the coaches system and structure, A full buy in. Skinner has not had to play crazy most games. He has had it pretty easy. The Oilers are limiting chances most games. Skinner has maybe helped keep them tied in 2/3 games at most with some big saves. It's also the PK. It is like #1 in the NHL right now under this coach and was almost dead last under Woody. STuart coaches the PK now. PK also has like 3 pairs now. Woody used 23 different pairs.
KK has coached zone forever. Woody tried changing from man to man to Zone to start the year and the Oilers were so lost and confused.
It is th system. Even the D. Woodcroft and Manson had them whip it off of the glass more. Coffey is telling them to make plays and go up the middle more. Massive difference.
Edmonton has allowed 3 goals at most in the 15 game streak and 13 games straight at 2 goals or less. McDavid and Drai have not even been in top 10 scoring during this streak.
Also, every COL-EDM game was a 1 goal game going late into games besides that 2nd game blowout. Nurse should not have been playing and 41 year old Mike Smith. Wouldn't call that dummying lol
First time listener and not a leafs fan but I enjoy listening to hockey podcasts in general and I liked yours. I'll be back for the next one.
