[Brooks] What a mess. Chytil back in his NY home after evaluation, few details available but it seems the incident in which No. 72 went down on the ice this AM is related in some way to Nov. 2 suspected concussion. It’s a setback for sure and it creates complications for NYR, Drury.

Now this is bad. Previous tweet was speculative. Now we are in the shitter

  2. iVoyager9404

Feel awful for the kid. Now we gotta get ourselves a 3C.

Drury will make it happen. God damn this whole thing sucks.

Our adhoc “rebuild” looks even worse than it already did šŸ™

Drury needs to do the right thing and rethink his commitment to these veterans šŸ™

I hate this for him. Heā€™s got to go full Kenny Rogers and know when to fold ā€˜emā€¦ for his long term health sake.

  5. InsideIngenuity

I understand that he wasnā€™t actually back yet but the idea of them bringing him back this season was a mistake in the first place. Should have taken the season to heal.

  6. Damn really hope heā€™s ok in the long run, this is bigger than hockey now. Might be time for him to retire so he can still live a quality life

  7. Bauerblade

This absolutely sucks. Just hope the kid can be okay again after all this, only 24 years old.

  8. They gotta sit him for at least the next 365 days no less, if not retirement is closing in even faster

  9. I mean thank god something like this happened on a 3man optional skate instead of getting ran over by Brent Burns in a playoff game and ending up in a bed unable to eat or drink for the rest of your life

An average NHL career lasts 5 years.

There is just no way he will ever come back to his real self as a hockey player again, time to retire from the game and enjoy life instead

What we know (per reports from Lazarus) is Chytil was on the ice in pain for a few minutes and couldnā€™t put weight on his left leg. The team then called it an upper body injury. Chytil had been in a non contact jersey and there were only two other players on the ice with him, who helped him off.

If Iā€™m wagering a guess based on the circumstances, Chytil experienced a still underlying concussion symptom event that caused him to collapse, causing some sort of left leg injury, which is what caused the pain. This would most likely just mean the current concussion hasnā€™t healed fully yet and would need more time than originally thought – and would qualify as a setback to the original concussion. I would assume a reconcussion would cause a dazed feeling, not writhing in pain. Plus, the wording ā€œsetback to the original injuryā€ doesnā€™t imply a second concussion, which would be a new injury.

Iā€™d say prepare him for September over April, use the extra deadline space on a 3C and a finishing RW. If it become necessary to find a permanent 3C, Drury can absolutely figure that out. Just find some team with a middle six center up for grabs and offer guys like Jones/Robertson/etc plus pick(s).

This is awful. Lots more to life than hockey.

This is the epitome of understating itā€¦

  13. Sjdillon10

Fil has to retire man. Itā€™s not worth it

  14. OMGki11edkenny

    Honestly
He needs to sit out for this and maybe next season. Work on himself before even thinking about going on the ice in a game. Health is more important than this game

  15. big_als_nugz

This is sad honestly. Hopefully he will be okay long term. Weā€™ll see if this team can come together now knowing chytil mania isnt coming back this year. Lets go get vlad back and a new 3c.

In hockey terms – they’ve gotta put him on LTIR and trade for a center asap. You’re not going to get far in the playoffs if your third line is a glorified checking line that only Will Cuylle can score from (and if your putative first line can’t seem to generate anything at 5v5). In personal terms – I really feel for Fil; this is bigger than hockey and he has to do whatever is right for him to ensure his long-term health beyond the game. Maybe that’s retirement or maybe it’s just sitting out until sometime next season, but I hope that whether he plays again or not he’s able to fully recover and have a long and healthy life after his career is over.

  17. All the best to Fil.

I think it simplifies things for Drury, not complicates them. Fil won’t be the answer for this year; take the money saved due to LTIR and find the best replacement he can. Hope for the best for next season

No use speculating on the long-term stuff, but I think it’s pretty chase what lies ahead in the short term. On top of a winger, they need to look at a center at the deadline. It’s not an easy thing to do with such a limited cap room. Going to have to make some moves soon, and we might have to accept some hard truths for the long term stability of the team.

  19. AARP_Rocky

This is obviously very serious, but itā€™s still speculation at this point. Probably shouldnā€™t come back this season, but I think itā€™s still too early to say he should just retire when no one has any real details.

  20. Just retire, Chytil. We love you and want you to play but your health is more important. Please don’t risk a lifetime of CTE complications.

  21. jkman61494

Itā€™s not a complication. Itā€™s clarity. Shitty clarity. But still clarity.

Heā€™s done. Honestly Iā€™m thankful it happened this way and not in a game.

Now we know heā€™s done short AND long term.

We have the money to afford someone in the immediate and with so many teams near cap, itā€™ll drive the cost down. We CANNOT give up a 1st.

And I think the reality of either Miller or Schneider being traded skyrockets in order to get a cost controlled young 3C on our roster now as well in the offseason

  22. This is depressing. Feel so bad for him. Part of the ranger family forever Fil no matter what happens. Been a pleasure to watch you develop into a legit NHL player.

  23. mbsmilford

My heart breaks for him and his family. You got this Filip.

  24. I__Need_Scissors_61

Hang it up, Fil. Itā€™s not worth ruining your life. Drury, pick up the phone and get a center. Try not to fuck up the trade like you usually do.

  25. Several-Hour9706

This is going to be a lifelong challenge for him. I hope does the smart thing and retires. Plenty of ways to involved with the game without risking your life
