3 games too much. First offence and all. Marchand has done worse many times and only gotten a game or two.
Ridiculous. Should have been 10 plus games. Player safety needs to be dismissed and revamped.

I've watched Brendan Gallagher for years and he's been hit in the head so many times with no call. No excuse for what he did but it's because the league can't police itself when it comes to small players.

As a long time Canadians fan , I cannot remember a Montreal player wearing a letter on his jersey doing something so maliciously violent as this. Chelios hitting Propp in 89 was similar , but that was a playoff game and Propp supposedly had previously slashed Chelios . Like, what the f**k was Gallagher thinking? This is going to be bad for him going forward.

5 games was the right call – Gally has zero history of this type of play – the player was not seriously injured – the league rarely protects the players so why are they going to start now.
That was a Gallagher wants to be traded out of Montreal move. Who doesn't want to get out of Montreal. A five game reset to get healthy. I think Vancouver is looking long and hard at making a deal for him.

The people saying that five games is too much because it's a first suspension, or "Look at Marchand…" are missing the point: the league needs to to make sure that open ice hits aiming for the head has an economically damaging consequence to the offending player and the team. The offender should be out as many games as the injured player and his salary goes to the injured player. For those who say guys will fake it, bs – concussions are medically unfakeable.

The NHL is a joke. Everyone has said that for a very long time. So many players have had their careers shortened by exactly the kind of hit Gallagher did. He should have been gone for the year. The Habs should send him away. A player who does something like that has no place on any NHL team. The guy who he obviously tried to injure should talk to the police.
He only gets 5 games for willfully trying to end a guy. It was not even smooth like a pro would do it…right out there, cameras on him, he brought that elbow up and aimed for his face. Meanwhile, Shane Pinto gets a 41 game suspension for "betting related" technical infractions….18 months after the fact, and right before the season started with a new owner. The NHL is a weird animal.
Lets just say that April 11th will be payback time if they dress Gally.
I think 5 games is fair for a first time offender BUT repeat offender should be getting way longer suspensions. lie 1- 5 games 2- rest of the season 3- permanent ban

I'm okay with 5 games, next suspension will be 10+ for this kind of hit by gallagher. I try and avoid listening to PK as much as possible. Dudes comical. He slewfoot players all the time. Dont want to hear his trash opinion on a player he dislikes personally.

As a Montrealer, I find that Gallagher can’t keep up with the game for numerous seasons now. If he was rookie, he would be cut. So if he starts acting like this on top of this, the canadiens should turn the page on him.
