FLYERS MAKE A HUGE SIGNING: 8-YEAR EXTENSION GIVEN TO OWEN TIPPETT (Philadelphia News)

FLYERS MAKE A HUGE SIGNING: 8-YEAR EXTENSION GIVEN TO OWEN TIPPETT (Philadelphia News)

It has been a fine season for the Philadelphia Flyers as right now they are one of the best teams in the Metropolitan Division it’s really tight up there but the Flyers are indeed in a playoff spot they’ve locked down third in the division and I mean look the next

Best team is down here at 51 points 51 points for both the devils and the Islanders which means that the Flyers have a pretty good lead in being in a playoff position of course there are games in Hand of course there’s still 30 more games to go but for now things have

Been good but for Philly today this morning things have just gotten even better as they have signed Owen tippet to an 8-year extension at $6.2 million a year this is a fantastic extension and sure you could go out there and say wait a minute 6.2 mil that’s quite a lot yeah

It is a lot but for a guy like Owen tippet who has exhibited the season he has had this guy was already a 27 goal scorer last year and he’s been looking kind of better this season Owen tippet is 24 years old 6127 right-handed guy plays in both Wings making $1.5 million

A year till the end of this season now he’s got the extension he’ll be making 6.2 and this is a pretty good bet for both sides the contract being 8 years long takes him until he’s 32 years old which is a very good number for a guy

Who will play out the majority of his prime years in Philadelphia as we had talked about he had himself a really good season last year 49 points 77 games played and the 27 goals but this season you could say that he’s on Pace for a better Season 52 points is the

Production Pace he’s at 30 points in 46 games right now but the interesting thing about tippet and his profile is that these goals 18 goals in 46 games on Pace for 31 the majority of them actually came after the season began and I know that sounds really weird to say

Oh yeah of course like every goal he scored came after the season began but Owen tippet started out the year really really cold like he went however many games it was without scoring a goal let’s pull up the game log here he started out the season with two goals in

His first 13 games he started out the season with zero goals in his first six games so tippet got off to a really slow start this season before he just started putting the puck in the back of the net two goals against Anaheim 111 against La Carolina and Vegas in the month of

November and then it was just kind of lights out he’s been scoring crazy good ones and I think the backhand goal that he scored the other night where he comes down the rush and spinas around the guy that solidified the deal this is a legit top six Cali caliber goal scoring threat

And with his 31 goal Pace you could say that there’s really only up to go from here this guy is probably one of the more underrated younger players in the Philadelphia Flyer system partly because he wasn’t a Flyers draft pick he was traded to Philly you got to remember

This from the Claud jaru trade all those years ago so remember when there was a big outcry from people like me saying that the Philadelphia Flyers didn’t get enough for CLA and in fact the fact that they had the trade pieces away to get this Shu deal

Done was kind of wild to me but hey Owen tippet came over plus you got the draft picks tippet is now signed on till the end of the decade and he’s been looking pretty good because of it and because of this signing you know you talk about the

Commitment being handed out to this player what I’m starting to think about now is the long-term implications of goal scoring in Philadelphia because obviously we talk about tippet we talk about some of the other guys on the team that have been pulling their weight and

Getting the goals to go in kkny has been having a good season Tippets there far’s got a shot but when it comes to this group of guys I start to think about the future because Oliver Bon has been a goal scoring machine with the London Knights on defense you’ve got mattv Mish

Kov who has been doing fantastic things you had cutter go but he’s gone so let’s not talk about him anymore you also have other players like Tyson Forester who has been known for being a top tier goal scoring Prospect as well he was pretty all right in the AHL last year sure his

NHL productivity still has a ways to go but he’s getting there he’s only 22 so it’s fine you have other guys here that also had great goal scoring Talent like Bobby Brink he got sent down recently but still there’s a young Prospect here who has good goal scoring potential he

Had seven in the the 38 game sample he had with the Flyers this year really good to see Bobby Brink actually exhibit success at the NHL level honestly considering all the concerns about his foot speed back when he was a draft eligible but there are so many guys in

The flyer system that can just put the puck in the back of the net and considering these guys here too I mean you’re taking a look at it there’s just a good cast of goalscoring prospects that the Flyers have their hands on and with Owen tippet getting that extension

To also be a part of that long term we’re really starting to see this team turn a corner after a season that we didn’t think would be as good for Philadelphia as it’s been John torella just has control of everything going on and it’s really really boating well so

For Philadelphia to be ranked this high in the Metro division they’re third overall I get it they’re trying to get a spark in because they’ve lost four games in a row but for Owen tip at getting a $6.2 million aav extension this is going

To be great and I wanted to go over some Reddit comments just seeing what the fans have to say too I think this is a very very good deal for both sides Calgary Flames fan hunter moon goes out there and says that’s a decent bet torz must think he’s turned the corner he’s

Got a shot like a 40 goal guy reply says yeah he had 27 goals last year and has been even better this year scoring at a much higher rate at 5v5 he’s top 15 in 5v5 goals and 5v5 goals per 60 and he’s on Pace for 33 goals despite the slow

Start and just two Power Play Goals and that’s a great stat too let’s go out there and look at money.com because they have all the numbers that we’re interested in so let’s go over here and then we’ll look at Players take a look at 5v5 goal scoring between all these

Guys you can see right here that yes our guy Owen tippet is in the running he is right there with faraby and kkny they each have 14 5v5 goals and that’s pretty good putting them in the top 20 of NHL scoring it’s a pretty good tie here actually they’re tied for 12th with

Ronin forsberg petka my goodness PKA has been doing that well nice to see him doing well and then Jason Dickinson too and if you want to go over to goals per 60 Minutes there also is a really nice number here because Owen dippet is one of the top guys look at that Neils

Hoglander baby goals per 60 minutes he’s been doing too well too but Owen tippet right here underneath eigor chikov and Sam G so they been kind of tearing it up too in The Limited ice time they’ve been given but Owen tippet has a better goals per 60 rate than Patrick Kane K Connor

Nathan mcdaddy McKinnon Alexander Holtz has been good recently cydney Crosby David poster puder too hatrick guy so Owen tippet just has been showing us more and more that he is legit and this season rewarding him with a $6.2 million aav as the cap goes up this is going to

Be fine and for Philadelphia I mean mean I can’t really be happier for what this team and this player have accomplished so let me know your thoughts in the comment section below as Owen tippet gets himself a $6.2 million extension the total dollar amount on the deal is

In the 50 million range just a shade below that so eliminate your thoughts as to whether or not that’s worth it I think it is but if you’re disagreeing then that’s fine too thoughts in the comments section below about Owen tipet signing his extension I hope you enjoyed this v9 and bye

  1. I'm very wary of 8 year deals. However, the price is right and Tippett is a big piece of the future. Well done, Danny Briere.
