In my opinion, if we call these off then defence is going to just deck players into their own goalies to waive off any goals.

I get it, he is on the line before he is pushed; but nylander had no intent to hit that goalie. The initial call was unintentional goaltender interference so they knew he didn’t even do it on his own. Then keef challenged the play and it stood as no goal. This is BS IMO. I hope this isn’t foreshadowing how they plan on officiating the playoffs. Not for my sake either as a leaf fan, for everyone else’s too.

I agree it should’ve been a goal but don’t worry, the NHL and their refs would never set any kind of consistent precedent they need to stick to so this probably won’t become a systematic issue

  2. It’s only a non goal if the officials want it to be a non goal. This isn’t a new issue, it’s the way the league has worked for decades.

  3. Bendemental

They won so it doesn’t matter but what an atrocious call. One of the worst I’ve ever seen

  4. Natural-Web-6978

Even if you argue Nylander could’ve made more of an effort to avoid contact – which is a stretch – Hellebuyck looks like he had time to reset.

  5. DontToewsM3Bro

    It was a bad call

Move on, leafs still won and it was a one goal in the regular season

IMO referees should also have discretion on whether a failed challenge warrants a penalty. I get why the rule needs to exist, but I think that in cases like this they should have they option to waive it. When a call is obviously confusing or controversial, there should be that middle ground to say “your challenge has failed, but it was issued in good faith so no penalty.”

  7. Ya that was a pretty awful call, can’t believe it didn’t get reversed.

How did he hit the goalie? Oh, he got pushed into him? So you mean it’s an interference call?

  8. PortageLaDump

    I’m a Jets fan, I thought it should’ve counted

Nylander was in the crease the entire time (watch his left skate). Thats the only reason I think they called it off. The crease is the goalies domain only.

Had Nylander had his skate out of the crease then shoved in its incidental but because it was in the crease the whole time it gets called off.

The Athletic had a good article about what is and is not GI a bit ago. I’ll try to find it

    Edit: [here it is](https://theathletic.com/2636045/2021/06/11/down-goes-brown-read-this-post-and-youll-understand-almost-every-goaltender-interference-review/?source=user_shared_articleDownGoesBrown:Readthispostandyou%E2%80%99llunderstand(almost)everygoaltenderinterferencereview)

“If you go into a crease on your own, getting bumped while you’re there doesn’t mean you’re OK to stay.” ⬅️ This is the interpretation I think that was used. Stupid? Yea but it’s what the rule is

I hate the leafs and love the jets but this was a fucked call, that was a clean goal all day long

  11. anarchya780

I’ve seen worse interference allowed, and less interference called off. It seems like they flip a coin on a lot of those. If I were a leaf fan, I’d probably be pretty mad. As an oiler fan, I can definitely sympathize, even if it is Toronto.

  12. Shiny_Mew76

Sort of unrelated, but are those Thrashers Throwback Jerseys?

  13. ElectricalMarket2948

Awful fucking call. If a player is pushed in while outside, then fuck the goalie and the defensive team. These video reviews are fucking awful

  14. CreateorWither

I think I hate this play more than any other. It’s so damn stupid.

  15. gabbyspapadaddy

That’s not a goal. He bumped the goalie and he couldn’t get set again.

Stop whining Toronto lol. You are so cliche.

  16. sextoymagic

Is this really the goal people are losing their minds over today? Serious question.

  17. PChopSammies

Just because they make the wrong call here doesn’t mean they won’t make the wrong call again.

It’s a gamble for the players because the goal review process is so inconsistent.

  18. Silent-Obligation-49

Goalie interference is different on every play. I dont think the league even knows what goalie interference is. It was a terrible call and was a no brainer that it was a good goal. It was so obvious on the replay that the Toronto player was pushed into the goalie by the Winnipeg dman..

  19. dboihebedabbing

Don’t skate through the blue paint? Pretty fucking simple

  20. wrinkledpenny

Someone shared a video last night of a game in Edmonton last week where the exact scenario happened and it was quickly ruled a goal

  21. CattleDogCurmudgeon

Can anyone tell me if this goal got waved off on the spot or was it on review?

  22. Lol. Jesus Christ. It’s a bad call. Should have counted. We GET IT. Get the fuck over it

  23. Stinky_Toes12

Same thing happened to miller to disallow boesers goal. This one shouldve counted

  24. Supersaiyanmrpopo69

I was a goalie and my idiot teammates always used to shove guys on top of me. The puck would go in and I would flip out at the ref, and he would tell me that my own player shoved him on to me. Then I would say yeah but the guy still spent 3 seconds lying on top of me…. then I’d get a penalty for screaming at the ref. Where does it end lol

  25. CyborgRaptor20

Referees should have punishment applied if they fuck up this bad. Also are the people in the situation room that incompetent

  26. HardOyler

Fuck guys it was a not great call on a game they won in the middle of the season. The amount of bitxhinf on here you did think it was game 7 of the finals. Also he went harder into the goalie then that push warrants.

  27. The fact that I’ve only seen one comment disagreeing that it was a goal for the Leafs on the NHL sub tells me all I need to know.

  28. superavsfaneveryone

Lack of consistency with these makes it easier to fix games.

  29. Nah, they’ll call the next one no interference. Cuz, you know, inCONSISTENCY.

  30. I’m on the fence on this (no bias). Was a weak elbow by Jets player. Nylander could’ve attempted to move towards the D instead of Helly. But this was just soft all around.
