  1. I disagree that being Russian is a factor. We have so many other celebrated Russian players, like Pavel Datsyuk, Pavel Bure, Viacheslav Fetisov, Alex Ovechkin, Sergei Fedorov, Evgeni Malkin, etc. They have legendary status amongst long-time hockey fans. If you are going to be considered a great sportsman, you have to embody that both in and out of the arena.

I think Kucherov is an amazing player. He is only the 3rd Russian player to have won the Art Ross Trophy, but no one is going to celebrate an asshole. How is it that Ovechkin, as a Russian rakes in $5 million per year in off-ice endorsement deals if being Russian was a factor?

  2. I have followed Kuch since he entered the league. During Stanley cup winning celebrations he does get pretty wild and funny. But at just about all other times he is somewhat intraverted. He's generally quite and does not seek the spotlight. Doesn't talk much and doesn't like interviews. Sometimes he hardly celebrates when he scores a goal. Another reason he flies under the radar.

  3. Spot on with everything here. Can you imagine the record of Tampa Bay without him? There would be wholesale roster changes in short order. Stamkos, as wonderful as he has been since Day 1, is now just a PP guy and almost worthless 5 on 5. What is he, something like minus -20?? Point is still racking up numbers but without Kucherov, you wonder. WITH Kucherov, this team, and a healthy Vasy, can take this team for another deep ride in the playoffs.
