OMMMMMMMMGGGGGG
Like father like son, kris had a weird path to the nhl.
Reminder, Winnipeg traded him to Detroit for a dollar
I'm sure the odds of landing a McDavid at that stage of the draft is like nill !! Jimmy Nill !!!!!!! Ha ah !!! Got you Leggs !!! Don
Annnnd they traded for another pick. haha
Annnnnnnd the Red Wings made a trade to get another 7th round pick, 203rd overall which they used to select Chase Bradley.
Mason Langenbrunner was drafted by Boston Bruins. His father is Jamie Langenbrunner 2x Stanley Cup Champion.
jeremy bracco is gonna be cut loose by the leafs, think he would make a fine prospect for detroits system and could be had on the cheap.
Swung on Bert and it worked out
If you're going to bet on a prospect late in the draft why not bet on your own son 😂
Imagine if we get to see Bertuzzi and Draper playing together again….
3:54 yoooo I live in Chilliwack so I can watch his games and I practice on the same ice sometimes
Nepotism in hockey is rampant!! Always has been.
Hopefully he's better than his Dad. C'mon now!
Who cares. How many 7th round picks make it to the NHL? 1 out of 1000?
This isn’t weird at all. This player hasn’t been drafted as an NHL prospect, he’s been drafted as a way for the team to honour Kris Draper and his family. It possibly opens some doors for him down the road in minor pro or in Europe if you can put NHL draftee on your resume. The Devils let Marty Brodeur call out his son’s name on draft day a few years ago. Classy move!
Reminds me of when the New Jersey Devils drafted Anthony Brodeur because of Martin Brodeur and when the Vancouver Canucks draft Ian Clark's son Morgan Clark in 2008.
His dad was sick of paying for everything for his son so he figured he’d draft him and let the team take care of him instead🤣😂
Hockey town
He has seen him play enough.
It’s crazy because I called this. I saw he was projected to go 180’s and I was like watch, I wouldn’t be surprised if the wings drafted him. And then I saw on Twitter. Lol
How many times has this youtube 'expert' seen Kienan Draper play? From what Yzerman said it was the other scouts, not Draper, that pushed for Kienan. Yzerman also said it would be their jobs on the line if they ever took a player for the wrong reasons. Kienan has great size, work ethic and is loaded with character. I wouldn't bet against the kid or his father.
Just saying, no one especially Winnipeg thought anything of kris either. At least detroit saves the buc this time 🤣
Yzerman said multiple Detroit scouts, not Draper, wanted to draft this kid. They know him pretty well because, you know, but might as well swing on a kid you can develop pretty directly
Would have been really great if they drafted tag bertuzzi as well
Not sure how its weird when its not the first time a father drafted his son at the draft. Look up 2013 when Marty Brodeur drafted his son, Anthony in the final round of the draft. The Devils did not have a selection in the 7th round so Lou Lamoriello decided to make a deal with the LA Kings to acquire the 208th pick for the father/son announcement.
I'm not sure what to make of both these 7th round picks TBH. If Draper jnr was any good he'd be long gone before the 7th and a trade to get another prospect looks like an attempt to distract from Draper jnr IMHO. I'm really underwhelmed by who we've taken in rounds 6&7 TBH, last year with the likes of Soderblom was way better than this year……..
So Draper cares about his kid. But instead of playing junior one hour away in the OHL and getting a college education in Michigan, he plays one level down on a team all the way across the continent so he can go to powerhouse Miami of Ohio.
Moritz Seider just Loaned to Rögle Bk in the Shl
I’d be shocked if he was a 2nd or 3rd rounder
What is bizarre about this, in your opinion? You kept saying it was so, but you didn’t explain why.
Is this the kid that crapped in the cup ?
Hand outs
I suppose it was in doubt he would sign elsewhere as a UDFA.
Idiotic pick and a waste to pass on another prospect that may have been better.
Nepotism is alive and well.
First off, Central Scouting really doesn't mean a whole lot. It's basically a guide for fans, but every team has it's own list based on their scouts, as well as style of play and needs. Kienan was on the Wings scouting list from that region, and they probably know what they are getting with him more than other similar prospects. I like both picks as I'm a fan of college hockey, and will definitely try to get up to a Redhawks game in Miami to see Draper play next season.
Kyle Aucoin is the son of Adrian Aucoin, who played in the NHL for years when Yzerman did.
You know how much better he will get at Miami? You're an idiot if you think it's a wasted pick. Nice job ripping on a kid for getting drafted! Typical jealous punk…. (You ever play? Doubt it)
In Draper they drafted a tough gritty kid who grew up around the Redwings they know him and what they are getting I like the pick.
Hey Lego, what if Detroit added Alex Galchenyuck* and Dominik Kahun* to the current team and gave Tyler Bertuzzi and Anthony Mantha 5-6M aav contracts?
