And for far more than any of us would have wanted to see CMakic give up. We can all move on with our lives now.

I’m actually glad to see that. I didn’t see him as a long term solution and too expensive for a short term one. It’s not like he’s having a great season, either.
Look out for the Canucks, though. They’ve been a wagon.
Agreed, the Canucks gave up draft picks, a couple of prospects and a decent scorer for a guy who peaked a couple of years ago. Kinda feels like we dodged a bullet there.
I think the sticking point was probably the “roster player” that was part of the deal in Kuzmenko. I don’t think the Avalanche, or the Bruins for that matter, were willing to part with a member of their top or middle 6. Picks and prospects are one thing, but having to give up someone like LOC too? Not a chance
Kind of funny to see a team that just turned things around already selling their future and going all in on a cup run. Time will tell if this was worth it for them.
I knew he was having a rough season. This article (by a Canucks writer no less lolz) really highlighted just how bad.

It definitely had the potential to be a huge letdown if he’d come here and play not improved. And at the cost, for a rental, it was certainly making me nervous. Unfortunately, there aren’t any stellar 2C options, but maybe we can bring in a decent one and they can get the usual bump we’ve become accustomed to with most new guys we bring in. Or maybe CMAC pulls another rabbit out of a hat. Guess we’ll see.
Still some much needed upgrades for 2G and 4C to be had.
Avs weren’t going to give up that much for someone they weren’t going to be able to afford to keep anyway, so no worries
The part of this trade that I don’t like is that it sets the cost of the center market pretty high (though most of the teams that want centers really don’t have much to part with).
He stinks this year, we should go get Middlestedt and it won’t be a rental
Phew..on that Henrique train now
That is a HAUL for Calgary. I’m actually quite relieved the Avs didn’t get involved in that bidding war if that’s the kind of package Calgary was asking for.
Still, though, that really does put a hard limit on the kind of player we will be able to get at the deadline. Monahan and Henrique are C-tier moves at best, it would suck to waste this legendary season from MacKinnon because we couldn’t get him the support to earn him a Conn Smythe.
If you combine the trade with the earlier Zadorov trade it actually balances it out a little bit better which I’m sure was a factor.
Lol! Never interrupt your enemies amidst a mistake.
Also, I firmly believe the Canucks are over-performing. The second they meet a defensive team like vgk and their shooting % drops below 20% .. season over.
And look at what they gave up for that
I want Mittens. Pass on Henrique. Pass on Monahan. Mittelstadt can be a long term solution at 2c and then we don’t have to do this dance again next year
This will age terribly for them and I’m all for it.
I am glad the avs avoided that kind of trade.
