Summer comes, his contract runs out, and next season who the fuck cares. In Erss we trust.
Wonder who would pay for Atkinson, he hasn’t played well except for a couple recent games.
They should ***NOT*** pay so some other team takes him.
I don’t think Cam needs to get moved at the deadline, if they can move him great but I don’t think it’s the end of the world if they don’t. However he does and should be moved before the start of next season.
I’d think Atkinson would approve a trade to any contender, to try to go for a Cup.
I’m guessing we would have to retain salary on Atkinson, even then, not sure what he would get us. Like a 4th or 5th rounder at best?
I don’t think Cam is impossible to move. He only has a 10 team NTC according to cap friendly and the kind of teams that would be interested in Cam (contenders looking for a middle six wing someone can retain on) are not likely to be the ones on his list. I dunno what kind of return we’re looking at, if I had to guess he’d be one of the guys moved when a team makes a desperation trade because all their top choices got moved, but it’s not impossible
Gonna be interesting to see what this team looks like when march rolls around
What does the M in M-NTC stand for?
Please trade Atkinson, Laughton,Walker,Seeler,Staal,Hathaway,Risto try to package Peterson with someone.
Keep Coot as the “veteran” with Deslauriers.
Problem with moving Atkinson is he’s not a rental. He’s got an additional year on contract and even at 50% retained he’d have a not so insignificant cap hit of 2.9mil AAV .
To contenders that are cap strapped or looking for bang for their buck, that’s noticeable.
If he wasn’t in such a slump some of that could be acceptable.
Then you factor in actually trade value…maybe a 3rd rd pick at best right now, which is probably quite a reach.
I’m all for a trade, let the guy play some playoff hockey, I just think the odds are not in Brieres favor for moving him.
I wouldn’t hate keeping Cam until the draft or next trade deadline if the value isn’t there. Ultimately, the player you need to decide on over the next 18 months is Tk.
His value is going to be the highest it ever is at this trade deadline, he has 2 years left on his deal and that cap hit is going to be manageable for most contenders. The assets he can provide you would probably be enough to round out the rebuild, and if you don’t trade him, you’re talking about an extension of upwards of 8 million plus per year.
Moving Cam would be nice if they can steal a pick back, but his contract expires after next season, and I don’t see 24-25 as an All In year by any means, so it’s not a move we have to pay to make. If someone offers a 5th for playoff experience or whatever, sure.
Great and we’re back to shitty goaltending all over again. Fantastic. As if I didn’t get enough of that for the past 30 years in the pre-Hart era
