  1. Trade Guentzel for a 1st, NHL ready player and Prospect. Then flip 1st Round Pick for Zegras. Guentzel is undersized, has never proved he can perform without Crosby, and when he's here past the core, who will they surround him with and the uncertainty that they'll mesh. I don't want to pay him William Nylander money. He's going to be on the wrong side of 30 deep into a new contract.

  2. is it possible to move jake for a decent return, then re-sign him in the off-season? Does that scenario happen very often in the NHL?

  3. Considering what they got for Lindholm, trade Guenztel. If you do that, and get rid of Raks and smith, Carter comes off the books. Thats like what 19 mil to spend on a cup contending top six instead of ā€œserviceableā€ guys or guys who are just ā€œreplacementsā€ for previous forwards who didnā€™t take us to the playoffs anyways

  4. Sid is/has been amazing , but the rest of this team around him isnā€™t going anywhere or winning anything. They absolutely need to get some more assets and young players in here and in the system to infuse some youth into the team. Then hopefully they can be competitive again in two or three years and maybe win a playoff series before Sid retires. Otherwise we are just treading water and delaying the inevitable. Better to get started as early as possible.

  5. If the Pens clinch a playoff berth then Jake is going nowhere.

If the Pens are even 2 points out of a playoff spot by the trade deadlineā€¦Jake is gone.

Itā€™s not the front end of the contract, itā€™s the backend of the contract that could prove to be ā€œproblematicā€.

The prospect of paying a player $8MM+ per season for 2 or 3 seasons not to play (decline, injury, etc) is not a position KD is going to put the franchise in.

Buy outs are not his thing, and the bone of contention in contract talks could very well be as simple as the NMCā€¦Jake wants it and KD is sayingā€¦not a chance!

  6. all iā€™m worried about is if they trade jake what happens to half off jakes shakes at the milkshake factory

  7. Here is my take on Jake and other trades.

I think the penguins have to wait and see how they do over the next 10 games. If they are less then 4 points out of a playoff spot with a couple weeks before the deadline, I think you owe it to the core of this group (sid, geno and Letang) to figure out a way to keep him and push all your chips in for trying to make the playoffs. The only reason I say this is because when you have 87 on your team, you do everything you can to win now. I donā€™t think itā€™s the most intelligent move at all, but one that must be done in my opinion. With the cap risingā€¦ and if you can find a way to move carters contract and possibly raks. You figure out a way to sign and keep Jake. Hoping itā€™s not more than 9.5ā€¦ I know I know what heā€™s said, but that can change.

Other players they should try to move regardless of how the team does would be rakell, Carter (like I said^) and possibly smith, but I still think Iā€™d be ok with keeping him.. not a popular opinion I know.

I also think Sullivan should have been fired years ago, and the fact he hasnā€™t been fired yet is beyond me. This team needs a fresh coach to shake things up. The reality for me personally is, this is a playoff team. They are top 10 in all the advanced metrics for even strength play. On top of that you have a solid penalty kill. For the powerplay to stink this long on top of all the early playoff exits and missing the playoffs how they did by 1 point last year. FIRE SULLIVAN. Heā€™s my fav coach of all time, but itā€™s long past his time now. Blows me away they havenā€™t fired him or at the very least fire Todd and get some new assistant coaches. If we had a powerplay who knows where we would be. Unbelievable in my opinion.
