HABS MAKE GREAT TRADE WITH ST. LOUIS BLUES (MARCO SCANDELLA FOR 2ND ROUND PICK & 4TH – NHL TRADES)
The Montreal Canadiens have traded defenceman Marco Scandella to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for a 2020 2nd and a conditional 4th round pick. Wow. An absolute steal by Marc Bergevin.
I mean again, the Blues get what they need and same for the Habs. Blues are all in for the cup. Also we can expect like 2 trades in the deadline with all these trades happening
Great trade feel bad for scandella tho since he is from Montreal but at least he will have fun with a contender playoff team. I have the feeling Kovalchuk is next๐
Blues fan here. The Blues definitely needed Scandella. Losing Boumeister put a major whole in their defense. Yes, the Blues weren't playing that great before he went down, but without him they would have been in free fall. That being said, I wouldn't consider this trade a steal for the Canadians by any stretch of the imagination. If I'm not mistaken, they haven't won the cup since '93 (i.e., 27 years) and haven't gotten close thereafter.
I actually like the Canadians, and watched them beat the Blues in the SCF's in 68 & 69 when we had Hall & Plante. But, that being said, they haven't shown me much in the last 10 years – even with all the talent that they have had. Their players come and go, as do draft picks. In other words, I don't care how many picks they acquire. They haven't done anything with them to show to me they will be a dangerous team in the next 3 years.
The Blues got a LH defensemen to replace JBo for another long playoff run. Also Montreal is eating a couple million dollars in the deal, leaving the Blues some flexibility to potentially make another deal. Armstrong knows what he's doing!
Bergie can make a trade that's for sure. For years we couldn't draft well. That looks like it's changing. I do think the Habs have a real character to them (look at Webber) and are close to being really good. Think if we had a healthy team and then add Primeau as back up to the incredible Price, Romonov on defense, Caufield up front?
Then you bring back KK, Phoeling, Fluery, not to mention how much we've seen Lekky and Armia grown…..oh and Kovalchuk being so good all around for us. Suzuki! He did this well as a first year center and just keeps getting better every game. Galley, oh man what can you say about Galley? and Tatar and Danault…..Webber, Petry, Mete raised his game and Chiarot has been great too….
We need two defense pieces as Kulak and Ouellet aren't going to cut it imo.
The next three to four years are going to be fun to watch, mark my words.
In about a month he turned that 4th into a 2nd, turn kovalchuk who you picked up n the trash pretty much into another 2nd plus a guy for laval and tell him you'll resign him for 2 at a good price this summer. I dont know why MB gets so much heat, he won 90% of his trades so far. He got amazing steals like Danault and Armia, got his money back on shaw and fleeced the Knights on that Max Pax trade. Even his most cotreviersals trades he won, galchenyuk, subban.. got tons of heat at the time for what are really great moves.
So it just occurred to me that Iโve been saying the Minnesota Wild the entire time, it goes without saying but I was meaning to say the Buffalo Sabres
The hand GMis a disgrace….they trade away size, strength, and remain one of the smallest teams in the nhl…..move over leaf's. Montreal will never win a cup in our lifetime….
I mean this is the going rate for defenseman right now. Pretty much market value for a solid defenseman and it's working for the Blues so far. Considering the second rounder will be in the late 50's, it's really more like a 3rd and a conditional 5th.

As a blues fan this was a fair trade. Its just what the blues need. He will fit the blue line nicely
