  1. Speaking as a Canucks fan, unless the Canucks made it to the conference finals AND resign Lindholm to a reasonable contract, Calgary at best for the Canucks won the deal. At worst, it's a fleecing. If any of those defensemen become key pieces or even top 4 in the future for the Flames, and the 1st becomes an NHL player, the Canucks get tossed in the 2nd round and they don't resign Lindholm, it's a fleecing. The Flames traded him, I think, just as he was starting his decline offensively. He's still a great defensive player, which is helpful, but as an offensive player, I think he's probably a 50 point player going forward, but we'll see. In any case, the Flames got a lot more than people expected, and if you play Kuzmenko with good playmakers, he'll be a fan favourite. He knows where to be on the ice to score goals and make plays, and if he's with defensively responsible playmakers, you're laughing all the way to the bank.

  2. You have to give Conroy respect for the way he handled this trade. He didn't go out and shop Allvin's offer to the other GMs.

  3. Flames need to bring in Kakko next.
Tanev for Kakko and a 3rd

These players will no doubt get the ice time they need to recover. i.e. Shango Unchained

  4. As a Canuck fan, if Calgary lets Kusmenko fly, as in play to his strengths, you will be amazed at his talent and million dollar hands. This guy can score in a lot of ways. I worry as a Nuck fan that we will not be able to resign Lindholm with our cap issues, so if he is a rental and we do not win the Cup Calgary wins this deal all day long.

  5. All the best teams that contended for the longest and won multiple cups tore it down to the studs. Think about how crappy the Pens and the hawks were. They were bottom feeders, and they drafted well ( especially in Chicago) and won a first overall pick with a ready-made star. That's what Calgary needs to do. They obviously can't tear it all the way down because they just signed Kadri and Hubs for long-term deals, but I think they should ship out anyone over 24 or 25. Sign some free agents, move them at the deadline for picks, and really tear it down for 3 or 4 years. When the Flames finally make it through it, they will have the cupboards stacked and should have a team that could be playing some playoff hockey in a few years. It's a long-term plan. Most GMs and owners don't want to do it, but I think it's necessary with the Flames. They're too old, and the teams that are ahead of them are actually younger, better, and have a bigger contending window. The team needs to learn from the Canucks mistakes of the past and go for a full tear down like the NYRs did. Trade away what you can be crappy for a while. Look at NYRs now. They have a very good team and the top picks they got haven't even worked out that well. If they lucked out and got top picks when there was a Bedard or an Eichel type player at #2, they probably would be adding a championship banner to rafters by now. Do the right thing and blow it up temporarily.

  6. Great and exciting deal for both squads. Our hope is one of these years one of our Canadian teams brings the Cup back north. Can't remember a year like this one when Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto and Winnipeg could win it all. Very exciting!

  7. Kuzzi plays on Kuz control. Conroy wanted Hoglander and that would hurt. Late pick and 3rd ranked D prospect is a win if the Nucks go deep. Lindholm gets to play with three 100 point guys and one 40 goal 80 point guy. He will flourish.

  8. Honestly, I see this as a win for both teams. Both teams got what they wanted/needed. Take care of Kuzy, he just needs to get his mojo back and when he does, look out!

  9. I think kuzmenko will do fine he’s not probably a 40 goal scorer but he’s a lot better then under tocchet who tried to make him forecheck like he’s to m Wilson rather then try and be creative or do what he did last year which was go to the net and tip picks in.

He’s not a fast skater so he’s wasting his time trying go into the corners and get the puck.

It’s only offensive guys that ever get that treatment, you never have a coach bench a defensive player for not dangling 2 guys and roofing it top shelf.

  10. I am with Safravalli. Tocchet tried to make Kuzmenko a player he is not and in the process destroyed his innate creativity.. The guy lost his confidence.

  11. What does Calgary do down the middle going forward? That means with Backlund and Kadri in their mid-30s, their effectiveness might drop considerably. What’s the plan?
