The Habs MUST do the right thing and that is to trade him. Monahan is a streaky player, meaning he is very good when he's playing (not injured). The CH. should build on talented and/or gritty players that can protect themselves, on the ice so they stick around for 80 games. Players like the Kutchuck brother are those types.

We saw a nice chemistry with Slafkovsky, thats what happened when you play him with talented players. Others teams are.taking notes. He's a top center on cheap contract. Easily a 1st is comig back.
I believe things will speed up when Alex Newhook come backs healthy for the habs. Alex Newhook can play center. Dvorak and Dach are done for the year.

How about keeping Monahan for the Habs? Trading for a first round draft choice leaves a gap at centre for Habs. He's better than Dvorak and Evans!
I want the Avs to get lindholm or Kadri.
As an Avs fan, despite our team not picking high in the 1st round, i struggle with the idea of giving up a 1st and a prospect. I really think that as a GM, you have to take injury history into account. I think you have to consider moving Johansen's contract, and a prospect like Behrens or Olausson. Maybe even Jason Polin, who joined the Avs lineup for a few games and looked to be a great potential 3rd line guy. Im not sure what will be enough for MTL to accept, but some of the comments im seeing here about a 1st AND a prospect have me shaking my head. If Chris MacFarland is giving up both of those things, it better be part of a package to acquire Elias Lindholm or Casey Mittelstadt.
Guys don’t forget this player is only 29 and is back on track . I mean he’s clearly a 60 points player again ( power play specialist and a great two way player ) . It’s either we resign him or we get something really really really big . Considering the fact that Calgary gave us Monahan with the flames 2025 first round pick 😂. Ahhhh I love Kent Hugues.
I think he would look good on the third line centre . The Montreal want a couple of players of the oilers.
This is the time of year the bad teams rape the playoff teams. GM's of contending teams can't help losing their minds and giving away the farm for an over hyped veterans. Even though this practice rarely works. Make your hockey moves and trades in the off season and early fall. At trade deadline add lower level depth if needed for much lower costs.
He's better than a first. Put him with your best prospects, example Mesar and Beck and watch them benefit from Monahans knowledge and watch them grow. Shorten the plan and increase the depth. 10 or 20 games under his tutorial will make the team better quicker.
…and then.. there's the Lindholm trade… what does Monahan worth now?
