Per Jfresh: Sean Monahan, reportedly acquired by WPG, is a playmaking centre who plays the bumper spot on the powerplay. Useful near the net, although not much of a finisher in the past few seasons. Reputation as a shutdown presence might be overstated.

  1. For 2 mil cap hit this is what the jets need. Bones system will help his defensive stats

Probably best to take this graph with a grain of salt considering the teams he’s been on during that time.

I’m excited to see how he fits and performs on this team, anyway.

Overpaid, but I hear there are no centers out there. So I guess you take what you can get. Let’s hope is at least decent.

  4. He comes in with 35 pts this season. That would tie him with Ehlers for 2nd on the Jets. Defensively responsible. Great on the draw and can slot in on the PP or PK. This is a good win for us.

Something tells me with a solid system and playing on a contender may be just what he needs to step up his game.

  6. Habs fan here, he will instantly make whatever line he is on better, great player and sad to see him leave. Treat him well Jets bro’s.

    Initial reaction: hated it.

The more I think about it: don’t hate it, don’t love it.

He seems like a good fit. This is a classic Chevy move. If he fits and could be re-signed on the cheap it makes sense.

Seems like a good reclamation project on a good team like the Jets

I do question his foot speed on the second line with a burner like Ehlers though.

  8. Flames fan wondering when Monahan was ever considered an above average defensive player.

He’s a lovable hard-worker who built his career off being a finisher (which dried up a ton after his injuries).

I know he’s turned much of that around so hopefully he continues that with the Jets.

  9. If he can continue to win the balance of his faceoffs, it will be worth it.

Everyone is forgetting that getting him at his price tag lets you get another guy. So you would be better off to wait and see who else comes in and add up the amount payed vs what we got fort both of them.

Check out his career Jfresh page not the one from rebuilding Montreal Canadiens

Think an interesting stat on Monahan is how good of a stick checker he is. Infograph on TSN said 77 successful stick checks this year? Pretty wild. I hope he does well, he’s by all accounts a solid dude and teammate.

Several 30 goal seasons and 11 points in the last 7 games says pffft to the “not much of a finisher”
