Joni Jurmo

Just a little info on Joni Jurmo…

6’4 left-handed d-man that can fly. He has been playing in the Liiga (Finish top league) and was progressing quite well until this year.

He had a very solid showing at the World Juniors last year where he put his speed and puck rushing on display. It is quite baffling what happened this year and why he’s had such a dud of a year.

Joni’s dad is an MMA fighter and he can acquit himself quite well too.

Here is a 38 page thread that has a collection of every single highlight that I’ve seen of him since the Canucks drafted him.

Hope he works out for you guys… he’s a long-shot and may need much longer then other prospects. The deadline to sign him is this summer and I’m curious to see what the Flames organization will think of him.

  1. Looks like his rights expire this spring. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s just let go honestly.

Scouting report I read says despite his size he can be weak on the puck and in the corners, I’m excited for the potential but that could really hold him back from making the jump. Some time with Stone will probably do the kid right.

If the flames can convince him to come overseas for a year, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a one year contract, just to see how he handles the North American game in the AHL

As a Canucks fan who likes to follow our prospect pool, I’d probably just caution you to not overhype him. He has the tools but there are serious doubts that he can ever put them together to the extent of being an NHL player. He likely wasn’t even in our top 15 prospects and we probably were going to let his rights expire this year

For what it’s worth, it’s still worth taking a flyer on him. Like I said, he has the tools. Give him a contract and some AHL time and who knows what will happen.

Losing Brzustewicz is the one that really hurts, even if selling high on him made sense since he would struggle to have a place in our system.

  5. Seems worth a look. What is there to lose seeing him on the Wranglers?
