  1. This part:

    >The skills competition was set up as some some sort of pentathlon, and it was pretty clear that Connor McDavid was going to win it. Probably having something to do with Connor McDavid designing it. Once Kucherov realized he wasnā€™t going to get the millions bucks, why should he care? This going on his future Hall of Fame plaque?

Kuch’s skill is reading the game at a completely different level then everyone else. He sees passing lanes and creates chances from nothing. There’s no skill competition that can replicate that.

  3. I’m agreeing with Deadspin on something? The world has gone completely nuts

An unpopular opinion (if Iā€™m being honest I think most people understand this and most of the hate was butt hurt leafs fans) kuch giving up did wonders for this years all stars and created a drama that got allot of people talking about it that would have never even bothered to watch it (including myself). Iā€™ve have seen More posts in r/nhl and r/hockey about kuch then Mcdavo winning the skills comp or team Mathews winning the 3 on 3 comp.

Edit: for instance I was playing battlefield when my buddy who was watching told me to stop and turn it on to see what Kuchy was doing.

The catch here is the All-Star weekend is only a farce if players act like Kuch did. It could be a fun event for fans if players were actually trying to prove something.Ā

  6. specifichero101

This is kinda silly. Itā€™s obviously a low stakes event for the fans that are kids, kucherov didnā€™t expose anything. He gave no effort, it looked a little silly and thatā€™s the end of it. To try and spin it like he exposed the event is swinging too far in the other direction of overreacting.

  7. Jlindahl93

Imagine having a competition designed by one of the competitors and expecting any of the other competitors to give even a slight fuck about competing in it.

  8. eye_no_nuttin

The whole event was garbageā€¦ Team Mathews , Team McDavid ā€¦. What the hell happened to the four division Atlantic, Metro, Pacific, Central??

  9. DelectablyOpen

I hope he gets fined and suspended like the rumors going around are saying.

  10. VinyardDog

The all star game is an absolute disastrous joke. It used to be a game where you got to see stars all together on two teams play a game. It would be so much better to see East vs west again.

  11. looseygoosey11

I was a big fan of Kuch until this incident. You’re an all-star and a “professional” athlete. McDavid is better than you, so you’re going to protest and not even try? Is Kuch 10 years old? What kind of childish behavior is that?

You’re there FOR THE FANS. Not yourself. I hope he loses Hart trophy consideration over this.

  12. rideflynight

I thought it was hilarious. He looked hung-over or tired, so why pretend? That’s what makes the event real! He was a real athlete chillin’! I’d also rather be on some beach instead of back at work. Cudos to him and NHL organizers. Finally some real emotion on what was otherwise a mini-popularity contest.

  13. PassengerNo9692

He exposed absolutely nothing but his attitude and the skills was the best it has been in years. Many other guys would have loved his spot in the skills instead of wasting it on kuch.

  14. baddyrefresh2023

I watched as a fan but only saw Kuch pout. Was expecting more from a pro. Guess he’s just a little cry baby. Oh I sucked at the first skills competition now I don’t want to play. Wahhhhh. Lol

  15. crymeariver_babies

Always a shithead involved in these things. His turn

  16. baddyrefresh2023

Wow. Did I say your not a hockey fan. Let me be more clear I guess. Watch regular games but stay away from ASG. How’s that. Omg

  17. Loving all the bitch ass pearl clutching by Canadian fans and outlets. What a fuckin bunch of pussies.

  18. Kitalahara

Kuch had the fortitude and the pedigree to be able to pull this off. I would wager quite a few player are mich more concerned about not getting injured in a meaningless game. Go ahead and be mad. Some of us are taking notes when one of your team’s elite players get injured in one of these. As for now, please continue the cryinf. It’s amusing and Thuderbug needs a refill.

  19. LoanedWolf75

Kucherov didnā€™t expose it. Itā€™s always known to be a farce. Horrible representation of the sport. They should do away with it. Just name an east and west all star team at the halfway point and give all the players a week off.

  20. I honestly thinks it was all due the NHL throwing up a big fuck you to the Russian players with announcing the 4 team tournament without considering the country that produced the 4th most players. It kinda annoys me that they punish people for bullshit that occurs overseas like the Russian Ukrainian war. I am in no way pro-Russian, but if I was one of the 10 best people in the world at what I do only to be told that due my native country starting the dumbest proxy war of all time that I couldn’t attend this best on best tourney I would be pretty pissed as well. Especially considering you could just stock the team with NHL players who are drug tested if anyone wants bring up the doping from the past.

  21. SeatPaste7

Honestly, I don’t know why they bother with the whole All Star thing. Nobody seems to care. Not the players, not the fans.

  22. OrganicSciFi

Kuch ensuring he wonā€™t be in any future All Star Weekends. Kuch hates the limelight.

  23. Canuckpunt

Or the games for the kids? Not a bunch of hockey obsessed adults on reddit. Show up for the kids.

  24. Should read ā€œAll-Star weekend exposes Kuch for the whiner he isā€.
    Pathetic attitude from a pro

  25. Spicyskates

Thank you!!! The amount of people I have argued with over this is insane! The same people that complain about the all star game and do nothing but hate it, somehow have such a big problem with a player not really caring. People were saying he was drunk and heā€™s an embarrassment to the league but I think theyā€™re just hating for the sake of hating.

  26. How can they be mad at him when the NHL designed the skills competition so that only players from 7 teams out of 32 could compete?

Players like Aho who weren’t allowed to participate are mad that they wasted a week off, that should be the focus.
