Zegras can be good, but often he’s invisible. He might be worth it for the right deal, but Anaheim doesn’t need D so I don’t see Montreal being a good fit for a trade.

He was chosen for the cover of NHL23 ahead of at least 30 guys who are better, or more deserving. It doesn’t make him a bad player, but it does make him overrated.

It’s always the cost with trades. If he’s got a bit of a bad reputation, maybe you can buy low if you think you can turn him around. If he was a perfect gentleman, the Ducks wouldn’t be open to trade him in the first place, and if they were it would cost an arm and a leg, like Suzuki+.

I’m completely baffled by this trend of Habs fans wanting Zegras.
He’s not that good, he can score some crazy skilled goals, but overall he’s not that good of a player, and loads of players around the league have said how he shit talks on the ice but not in a chirping way, in an asshole way, and there’s a lot of rumors with substance that he’s not a great teammate and is bad for the room.
I would never want a player like that on the team…

I’m all in on Zegras for the right price. The question is what is the price the Ducks want?
The Ducks have a ton of center depth with Carlsson, MacTavish, Gauthier, and Gaucher. They have enough LHD depth with Mintyukov and Zellweger that they didn’t mind trading Drysdale. They are a bit thin on RHD’s and wingers.
So they will either want a 1 for 1 prospect trade similar to the Drysdale/Gauthier deal, such as Zegras for Reinbacher, which is a non-starter for us, or they want a haul of players and picks with lower upside, but that fill holes for them, similar to Iafallo+Vilardi+Kupari+2nd vs Dubois.
In any case, I would wait until the season has ended to acquire Zegras. The position of our draft picks will affect what kind of deal I would be willing to make to acquire Zegras. But if the Ducks accept something centered around Mailloux + WPG 1st with some extra stuff on top, I think this approaches the value WPG got for PLD and it’s definitely worth the risk.
A player as good as Zegras almost never reaches the trade market at such a young age.
Caufield – Suzuki – Slafkovsky Newhook – Dach – Anderson
Adding Zegras completely changes the team (if the team can finally be healthy next year).
