What does this roster look like for next year?

Looking at next season already may be premature but with the players the jets have what would it look like?

First of all, players I don’t see beings on the team include:
Stanley 6’7 but likely gets an opportunity elsewhere.
Schmidt whether dumped or buyout he’s not worth 6m and can be used elsewhere.
Iafallo is amazing but 4m for what he brings is a luxury at this point and should be explored via trade.
Broissoit going to price himself out and likely gets a 1a/1b role elsewhere
Dillon as vital his physicality is he’s old and need to pave a way for heinola to get minutes.

Rookie issue:
2 rookies in lambert and mcgroarty could be on the roster next year which I haven’t accounted for in this roster so it may be adjusted accordingly.

Resigning:
I feel like Monahan is a perfect substitute for iafallo. He does similar role in being versatile but Monahan is a center with 55% faceoffs and better on pp. Demelo is a must keep no explanation needed.

What we need to sign:
In this scenario we would need a backup goalie and a bottom pair dman. I choose dreiger (winnipeg native) and dumba (Saskatchewan)

Here’s the roster I made.

What do you think? What would you change?

Thanks

I heard McGroarty might join the lineup after the NCAA season this year. I think he’s definitely going to be there next season.

I think you’re right that Iafallo or Appleton has to be moved out to free cap and to make space for at least one of McGroarty and Lambert.

Too early to say on a Monahan extension. I know everyone is still buzzing about the trade but he is a high risk player given past performance and injury history. If he gets through the season without an injury it’s worth considering. I think he is a better suited 3C and PP specialist than logging 2C minutes and approaching 30 so committing to him as a long term top 6 solution is risky but admittedly centers are tough to come by.

I think Lambert and Perfetti get a shot at 2C next season. Monahan is going to want a hefty raise of he has a good run here. I also think Dumba at his age is a downgrade from Schmidt, but I agree that contract is a boat anchor.

  4. Schmidt only has one year left after this and while he’s overpaid, he’s a perfectly capable NHL level defenseman and by all accounts is well liked in the room. I don’t see him going anywhere, not with our cap situation being pretty stable heading into next year.

Monahan is a straight up rental. Isn’t staying and would be tying up salary and space for our young guys.
