“It’s A Good Pressure to Have” | Zach Benson on the Second Half of the Season
So in what ways do you think the break maybe helped you you know especially with the grind of a NHL season being 18 yeah I mean I think it’s huge for everyone um you know you get that week off kind of just to refresh uh you know
Your mind uh physically um just overall I think it’s just huge for our group as a younger group to just kind of mentally and physically refresh and um you know now come into this second half and uh really make a push did you need to personally just I mean the grind of an
NHL season your rookie season is going to be different than anything youve experienced I mean did you personally feel it was something you needed at this point maybe yeah I mean uh it definitely um I think it’s definitely a positive to have it um you know obviously I’ve never
Played 82 games and um really you play every second night in this league so I’ve never really experienced that before um so yeah I I definitely think it’s uh going to help a lot even um you know from the Western League last year when you go back home for a week and a
Half for Christmas like that even just helps a ton after all the track travel that you do so um you know I’m sure this break will will be a positive for sure what have you been able to learn from the guys around you about getting through the grind of the Season yeah you
Learn a lot I mean uh you definitely um learn how to treat your body um a lot better um you know off the ice uh just extra stuff you can do you know stretching uh cool Downs you know it’s just so important for for the schedule
Um obviously the league has um so every second night you just got to you got to make sure that make make sure your body’s feeling right and um that you’re good to go for the next game Don’s talked about you know sometimes young guys they’re scratch but
It’s not really it’s not like a normal scratch I mean they want you to take a step back and kind of you know digest things differently like when you sit out in California what did that do for you what and what did you do I guess yeah I
Mean uh you see the game from a a different perspective um you know you sit up top um you know you really watch for the little plays and the um obviously it looks a lot easier from up there than when you’re on the ice um but
You you see the the plays that are there and um you know the plays that you make that sometimes aren’t there but um at the end of the day you’re just looking for the little plays uh you know the amount of time you have coming out the
Corner um you know the time you have to when you’re entering the zone to cut to the middle or either get the puck deep just just little things like that and um you know I think it helps a lot as a young guy you’ve the consistency’s been
There in your game you’ve created a lot um what do you think is going to be the the key to Translating that into offense yeah I mean I you know just honestly keep pushing uh keep keep being consistent um obviously uh you know everyone wants to score more everyone
Wants to you know get points but um you know it’s it’s just playing a complete game uh you know not cheating the game um and then you know going to the net and um you know honestly just keep being consistent I don’t know what’s what really to say but uh yeah just keep
Being consistent with Dylan and JJ how do you feel like you guys can really feed off each other you know as a line yeah I think uh you know we’re all kind of I don’t know we all think the game kind of similar uh you know obviously
They’re two super smart players and um you know they’re they’re two different kind of players and um I think we’ll really complement each other well uh you know obviously JJ is uh super Dynamic and um you know super offensive and then obviously cu’s a shooter um you know he
Can rip the puck and um you know he’s super reliable in the dzone so um yeah I think we’ll complement each other really well Zach are you feeling any extra pressure just with Jack Quinn’s injury and stepping up on the second line uh yeah I don’t know if pressure is
The right word obviously um if there is pressure you know it’s good pressure to have um but obviously you know Quinter is obviously a hard guy to fill in for it you know it can’t just be one guy it’s going to have to be know multiple
Guys in our group and um yeah obviously um you know hopefully uh you know our line can can click well thank
