Personally I think this makes the most sense since Donās recent appearance on the storm watch indicated he wasnāt dying to make a big move.
This wouldnāt alter any future plans with Freddie and also give a veteran presence to our group for the playoffs.
Also having Kochetkov learn from him would be massive for his development.

The other teams will over pay. The Cane’s best moves may just be to sign their college prospects that are killing it right now.

Don’t we have three active rostered goalies right now (PK was called back up already)? I am not saying we can’t or won’t make a move, but if Freddie also comes back then somebody help me understand what we are doing with three of our current four goalies first. Raants back to AHL assuming he clears waivers again, Spence back to waivers to be claimed again, Freddie…? Or are we expecting to include some combination of these guys in a trade and if so are the Wild even looking for that in return?
Dismal_Estate_4612
MAF has a no movement clause that he’d need to waive and I doubt he’s super interested in that at this point in his career. He does fit in the cap, but we’d be stuck with another year on his contract and maybe need to buy him out next season.
Caniac1017
DW will trade for the most obscure player available for a random prospect buried in Siberia thatāll never make the show with the Canes.

He’s not playing better than our current set of goalies. I’m not sure that he has a better chance of going supernova than anyone here.

Finally a move that could actually make sense instead of a braindead click bait one.
Will we do it? No. Of course not

How do the Leafs have cap space left over?
bearwhidrive
If the Leafs are interested, they’ll sell the farm to get him. Don has made it clear that he’s not willing to do the same, and I get it.

1. “Interested in” is the biggest weasel phrase in pro-sports trading reporting. It means absolutely nothing. 2. Fleury is 39 years old. We’d almost be guaranteeing ourselves yet another “We draft a superstar at the end of their career and they have a career ending injury 3 seconds into their first game” scenario.

Mentioned this on a previous MAF post – we 100% should do this for the right price. The right price is no one from our current team, and no A prospects. Picks and other prospects should be thrown at MAF like rice at a wedding.
Get a guy with 500 fucking wins, three Cups, and the most beloved NHL player in the league in your locker room. If he never steps foot on the ice, the trade will have been worth it from attitude alone, PLUS you get Kotchetkov to learn under him a bit.
Like17Badgers
feel like this is gonna be another Timo Meier situation.
he’s a known high quality player, everyone is clearly in on him cause of it, the team doing the trade is gonna hold on way too long, everyone but one team is gonna move on a bit too late and only be able to make some small off-roster deals before the deadline, then the Devils are gonna get him for an absolute steal.

Hear me out…
All goalie line!

If– and this is an admittedly big if– we live in a world where Freddie is healthy and can still play, I don’t think goalie is actually where the move needs to be. My question is whether we’ll really know the answer to that before the deadline arrives.
verysadfrosty
No, not another old one… I’d rather get Saros. He’s at least still under 30. I think this would be just a waste.
FriendsArentElectric
I’d love to see him in Carolina, and with the way he’s been playing I think we should go for this season & maybe next season to gun for a cup. He’s definitely better than how raantas been playing. If I was Fleury if 100% go to Carolina
tl;dr go to Carolina for 1-2 seasons and gun for a cup
Docksox
I think at minimum that we are giving up Necas, Kooch and some significant draft capital to get this done. Its a no for me dawg.
ā¦ā¦Though MAF is a guy that can carry you to a cup. So im at least taking the call.
Admirable_Excuse6211
If Kooch and Freddie are going to be back, there’s no need to trade for a goalie.
If they’re not going to be back, we’re fucked anyway, so there’s no need to trade for a goalie.
Mads0995
Might be an unpopular opinion BUT we donāt need another older goalieā¦.
We need to worry about the long term and the future, not just covering our roster space for the short term! Flowers doesnāt have that much time left, and if Iām being honest, Kooch has a better record than he does. So why would we want him to be a mentor for Kooch when heās already gotten a better mentorship from Freddie?
