After last years All Star Skills competition, I was not sure what to expect this year. I had high hopes for the draft, which was ultimately a bust I am happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised with he skills competition this year! I know many are going to complain no matter what just for the sake of complaining, but it was seemingly enjoyed by all… well except Nikita Kucherov. He clearly did not want to be there, put no effort in and was even booed by NHL fans in Toronto for his lack of effort. Overall, I thought it was honestly embarrassing to watch. The event overall was great though! I cover it all in todays NHL hockey video!

I love kucherov, you think he didnt try to get out of it. He clearly went cause he didnt have a choice. I respect him for trolling the shit out of the event to prove his point. Let the man enjoy his time off with his family and kids.
The allstar game is embarrassing itself, the entire thing was extreme cringe.
You have to remain professional in every aspect of your job, especialy with the privilege to be paid millions for playing in the NHL. Probbaly the dream of every kids watching to be part of the all-star weekend.
It’d be cool if they had regular guys out there trying to play defense or do some kind of pros vs joes events. Super fans trying to score on their favorite goalies, kids setting up their favorite stars for a one timer or visa versa. Maybe get the tough guys in the comp with a punch machine like at Dave and Busters. Set up some crash test dummies and blow them up with a big hit. Demonstrate the guys crazy skill and strength. I think the fastest slap shot is a good one. Fastest skater is also a classic.
One of my fav. NHL skill competition in years, as they stick to the point with a few goofy things though, but les riduless than last year in Vegas (or the year before?) with the magician. I'm not sure there kids fan base (10-14 years old even enjoyed it.) All Star game were great in the 1990's and probably before with a 60 minutes games, high scoring game, without stupidity period. Who is gonna stay 4-5 hours to watch the whole «All-Star game(s)», as we can't considered that as hockey anymore, with so much interruption.
Its called dont force players to do something they dont want to do. Im sure they could find out which guys actually want to be there and would still be loaded with talent.
What was truly embarrassing about the "skills competition" is that only twelve even participated and the donation to charity that the players customarily do with their "winnings" on the weekend needed to be explicit with the name on the cheques. When it was evident that Sebastian Aho was going to be essentially a prop for the majority of the weekend, that pretty much ended any interest I had in watching any of it. I'm sure fans of the majority of teams the NHL couldn't give two shits about and their all star players were also forced to go to Toronto for McJesus' cash grab and a pickup game between Toronto and Vancouver feel just as left out. At least Fishy showed much more class about it than Kucherov…
in recent years, the all-star game has become a joke, reaching that pinnacle in 2023 (shooting at surfboards in the sand? a dunk tank? Elvis costumes, etc. that was so god-awful I couldn't even watch the rest.) Nice to see the league getting back to what the all-star game should be.
As for Kucherov, a talented hockey player but the worst professional. He gave post-game interviews after winning the Cup shirtless and drinking beer. Now he gets voted to attend the all-star game, which is considered an honour, and he doesn't give any effort. Great player, rotten person.

Go back to east vs west with the winner getting home ice advantage in Stanley cup final. Give winning team $5M to share with all the personnel on the bench and in the locker room. Get some real defensemen at these games.

I don't have a bad word to say about Kuch's actions. All Star games have , to me, become an all star joke. Announce the teams to the fan base and keep playing the regular season schedule.
