The Most Vicious Heavyweight In History – Jack Dempsey

Jack Dempsey was the single most ferocious fighter the world had seen to that point. He took boxing from barely legal to the biggest sport in the US. He was completely incapable of not hitting hard.

  1. I may have heard wrong…. But did it say that it took 26 rounds out of fight scheduled to go 45 to decide the jack johnson and willard fight.. WTF? 😮

  2. Boxing is the oldest martial art.😳. It just wasn’t called boxing. It actually began before the Great pyramids. How to strike with your fist 🤜. It only got better. “Rocky Marciano”, That was a Bad Ass!😉! Shame he died in a plane crash 💥.
Johnny Horton, another plane crash 💥. Battle Of New Orleans.😉.

  3. So the art of boxing was created on this night. Ali, sugar Ray Leonard, Larry Holmes, etc. owe the art boxing to Gene!

  4. Man to take the shots he took in 12oz gloves and still go on to send people to the shadow realm is impressive af.

  5. Some interest notes about the DEmpsey vs Fripo fight:

Dempsey was out of the ring for more than 10 seconds against Firpo and it was actually helped by the jornalists and the crowd to crawl back (sthg that apparently Dempsey himself addmitted and told that he wouldn't be able to get back without it).

Dempsey was the better boxer and won the fight later, but nowadays he would have lost that fight. One of the reasons nothing happened was because Firpo didn't even had a Manager that would jump and raise Firpo's hands and complain about the help Dempsey received to go back to the ring. Anyway, that's boxing always, fair or not, when you go to fight the local boy you better take his head off, saldy it happens everywehere and in every period.

Another controversy was that Demspey was allowed to stand beside Firpo when he was floored and was let to hit him again. This situation ended with Johnny Gallagher the ref not being allowed to ref anymore and the birth of the "neutral corner".

And finally one of the most notorius paintings related to boxing was made of Dempsey's going through the ropes, the painter was George Bellows.

The fight was named the 1923 fight of the year and remembererd as one of the most vicious ever.

  6. Learned is brilliant in this fight.
He was patient in figuring out the strong defense of Mayweather.
Floyd Junior would not have beaten leanard either.
In their first fight, Duran had incredible experience and would trade punches, ultimately winning.
Duran partied like a rock star after the fight, and just could not rise for the second fight

  7. Just amazing how rounds were never really something enforced in the early stages of fighting. Imagine having fighters today fighting to 45 plus rounds. I really don't think that todays fighters could ever go those sort of distances. Men were different back then.

    Excellent video.

  8. Dempsey was a modern day Irish Gallowglass fighting machine, unstoppable, ferocious & hungry. One of the greatest of all time. A lean, mean green machine, Dempsey blazed a fiery trail of savage devastation through the Heavyweight ranks till he made it to the top & claimed the ultimate title. American badass, Irish warrior, boxing legend, the name Dempsey will forever be synonymous with fearsome ring prowess, double fisted ferocity & pugilistic awesomeness. The Man!

  9. Yeah those boxers, like Jack dempsey, the brown bomber Joe Lewis, Rockey Marceano, and many more greats great boxers back then😊
