You absolutely hate to see this

Today as the Winnipeg Jets came into Pittsburgh to play the Penguins, both teams were looking to get a little momentum going for the 2nd half of the NHL season. The Jets saw the return of Mark Schiefele as well as adding Sean Monahan and the Penguins saw the return of Reilly Smith as well as adding Jesse Puljujärvi. This game had good goal tending, broken glass coming down on the Penguins bench and of course, the hard to watch hit on Penguins forward Noel Acciari. Jets D Brenden Dillon laid a crushing hit to Acciari in the 2nd period of the game that saw Acciari go flying as his helmet came off. This was a brutal hit to the head from Dillon who received a 5 minute major and was ejected from the game. I cover that and everything else in todays NHL hockey video!

  1. We all know player safety bases suspensions solely on injury outcome. We'll have to wait for the Pens to tell the league what to do.

  2. Dumbest hit that didn't need to be devastating of all time. Both players are at fault, skater more than the defender. If I'm the skater, as soon as I feel myself reaching, I abandon the puck and smash into the oncoming Dillon because he's close enough to both the puck and myself to be hittable without interference being called for making a hit away from the play, then get back to the puck if I can because it's already lost as soon as you feel yourself reaching. If you're a skill player or fresh and really care about that puck, you can step around the hit and then skate around and try to get it afterward, but anyone who has seen the Eric Lindros career ending hit knows that you don't put yourself at risk to REACH for a puck you're losing off your stick. It's a lost cause when other players are that close whether they can hit your or not. You either have the puck or you don't, and if you don't, hit whoever is near enough to hit your first. If they don't like it, they can go for the puck too instead of the man. Speaking of which, Dillon went to where the player was GOING to be rather than where he IS, which is why he stuck something out and hit him when he didn't get fully there yet. If you go directly FOR the player, that doesn't happen because the body is hit not the head. Again, defense, MAKE UP YOUR MIND. Go for the puck OR the player, not in between them both. But honestly this is more on the skater than defender. He should know better than to think that puck is worth reaching for still. Everybody watch the Lindros career ender then stop doing this nonsense.

  3. Clean, shoulder down, didn’t launch his body, unintentional head contact. Puck carriers need to protect themselves. If we want to turn this into flag hockey we can talk about that.

  4. For me that hit is very unlucky.
I have no idea what Acciari is thinking, zero self protection and 0 game awareness. He`s just super out of balance and should have dumped the puck way earlier.
It`s head contact because his head is so low, down and he`s trying to avoid the hit. Dillon doesn`t get timing and angle right, but from one perspective he`s basically standing there while the Pens player just runs into him head first.
Nobody likes to see this, but there`s no upwards movement through the body, elbow is down.
Still, the rules state that the checking player is responsible to not make the head the principle point of contact.
By rule the refs got it right and a suspension will come.

But as a hockey player, Acciari just made sure he gets tattooed.

  5. So why is peoples opinioj on this that Dillon didnt try to hit him in the head, but when Bedard got smashed in the face in pretty mich the same way (small dude lunging forward, and huge defensemen smashes him in the face), most people blame Bedard? Whats the difference here?

  6. I saw the replays and agree that the results were really upsetting, I didn’t see any malicious movements that warranty a suspension. He was finishing a check and looking at the slo mo, it appears that he was leaning over the bench to attempt to get out of the way.

  7. at least he's saw the hit coming he hit to Connor Bedards head he was blind side being hit no major penalty or review was done there. This has to stop before someone has there career completely ended or worse by this type of contact.

  8. Unfortunate outcome of that check but I don’t think there was intent. Accari was leaning forward to shovel the puck.

If there is any disciplinary action taken it would be a fine, not a suspension.

  9. I'm not even convinced it should have been a game misconduct. I get why it had to be a 5 minute penalty but that might be too harsh as well. There was only slight movement with his arm at the time of contact. The Pittsburgh player ran into him and unfortunately led with his head down as he was already falling or off balance.

  10. Players do need to learn how to move into a hit you know you are going to take… When I played amateur hockey it was one of the first things I was taught… Always protect your head

  11. Dillon left his feet, enough for me to show him the gate. Guys need to respect eachother, but guys also need to be expecting to be hit or there will be more and more unnecessary injuries.

  12. Dillon has had a few suspect hits in his career. I see player safety leaving a marker behind on this hit – either a fine, or one game suspension – just in case it happens again so that they can use this hit to ramp up punishment if there is a next one.

  13. These are Trouba hits. Leap up into the head area. There is NO reason to leap up into a hit other than to make the head the principal point of contact. Malicious by design. There is no defense of a charge into the head.

  14. If they where similar size it would be a good solid hit but in this case it's just a size difference, nothing malicious is intent so I don't think the league will step in

  15. Lifetime Pens fan. This was a hit to someone bending over to get hit in the head. Could he of him let up sure but its Ascaris minor league hockey skating that led him to his death.

  16. Hockey is fast. Guy was reaching and then tried to jump by. If he slammed on the brakes and took the hit he might get bowled over. Kick him out of the game I guess, because the player being hit now head on has no accountability anymore, but he cant get suspended for this. This is playing D 101, and taking the guy at the blue line
