Canucks news: should Nikita Tryamkin join Vasili Podkolzin on the Canucks next season?

Jim Benning mentioned yesterday that he’d like to get Nikita Tryamkin back on the team next season. He’d be a relatively cheap option, but I’m not sure how much of an impact he’s gonig to have.

And I apologize for the abrupt ending to this video. My phone got tired of hearing me talk haha.

  1. I hope both Tryamkin and Podkolzin both join the roster next season. I was at the game when Tryamkin took out Jamie Benn with one hand in a brawl after Tramkin made a clean check on a Dallas player. Will make the the Canucks Defense core tougher.

  2. Given the salary cap I would say yes We can also work in a few younger guys and go from there I think the season will be much more balanced then this year as you see the far west teams get the you know what end of the stick for the schedule.

  3. I think Tryamkin would be a rich man right now if he hadn't been such a big baby under Desjardins. It doesn't matter that rookie coach Desjardins sucked, the huge D should have listened and learned like a man. And keep in mind Aqualini only hires rookie coaches and GMs for how long now? If Try doesn't have big boy pants for the NHL at his age today, talk about a missed opportunity for that colossal, great, great body. He's worth the risk next year because this year's team imploded and needs changes.

(Needs changes because the team imploded again? Hey let's sign a guy who didn't show up to play on a contract year: Tanner Pearson.)

  4. Personally I was up set that he bolted back to Russia because of his ice time but I would like to see what he can bring back to the #Canucks after after his time in Russia! Maybe he got better? 🤔 idk but never know till we see him suit up with our boys maybe he upped his pedigree from last time!

  5. As long as they don't sign him before the Expansion Draft (so we might need to spend a slot on him, I'm not sure about his eligibility) I'd be down, IF he's also open to competing with Juolevi for the 4th top-4 spot (other 3 being Hughes, Hamonic [hoping he comes back] and Schmidt). He should not feel entitled, nor should Benning feel obligated to gift him a top 4 D spot (though Benning has a tendency to miss workable loopholes that can give the team an advantage, I'd love it if they could sign him in the offseason and then either have him be the 2 LD or 3 LD).

  6. A definite yes x2. It beats patch jobs like Benn or Beagle. Unfortunately Benning’s “roll the dice” type planning gives the team no choice.

  7. Like too many Canadians, I think you misunderstand NT entirely and it affects your fair evaluation of this player. You were talking about Myers & Tryamkin on the ice, “not sure about their mobility” and “he’s a right shot guy”… yet NT was one of the fastest Canucks when he was here, and he is a left shot defenceman.

  8. Only sign Tryamkin if it was 2 way contract , he's going to be 27 and hasn't played vs NHL quality players in years ,NHL faster than ever . Reid Boucher and Markus Granlund in top scoring leaders tells you something . Tryamkin has zero offensive upside .

  9. The drama back then was the same as the Bitter Bros drama now, it even continued when he was gone, constantly whiney fan/media driven spite, not player driven. He said it smelt funny, and basically got run outta town for it. Give a Russian kid a break. Amazing fandumb here in this city.

  10. My question would be if Podkolzin is playing so great over there, why are they only giving him such a low amount of ice time?

  11. At the very least, Tryamkin would be a valuable asset if managed the right way, and we could get something of value in return. Of course, that means he needs to play out this next season in the NHL to determine his market value – if he doesn't pan out with the Canucks. But I'm pretty confident at least his skill set should earn him a regular roster spot for a few seasons here, thinking that he may not be competitive in a loaded team in their window.

  12. Yes they have until June 1 2021 to sign him as he turns 27 this yr which makes him a UFA if I remember correctly

  13. How much Tryamkin makes in KHL? He may not want to comeback if Canucks pay less than that, him and Mayers would be the scariest pair in NHL

  14. I really liked Tryampkin. Not only that he beat the crap out of Jamie Benn. His situation was a happy wife happy life thing. They must have housed him and his wife near the East side. Every morning she could see junkies out their front window. Also they were sort of secluded and did not know any other Russians in the area. I really thought he was one of the best defensemen on the team. He could pair up with Hughes. It does not matter with Podkolzin. I think he will be great or better. I just do not know if they could make a deal with the other big Russian. He would instantly make their D better. He hits and would be their toughest guy. For a big guy he was not slow.

  15. I would like Tryamkin back. But I agree with you Clay, as long as it is without the drama of last time. Shut up and play, or say Niet and stay in Russia.

  16. he might be a good replacement for benn. jim might have to walk away from benn, sutter, vesey, mcmaelis and edler.

  17. Trymkan will be much intimiating and defensively responsible than our current 6'7. He can skate and looked not out of place last time he was here. He was just screwed by previous Canucks' coach who did not give him a fair shot to play in the lineup. If Canucks don't bring him back, there will be other NHL willing to give him a shot given that he will be an UFA this year or next if I remember correctly. Where can you find someone who is 6'7 and weigh 265 lbs or something. He is a big immovable rock back there. Can fight, skate and have some offensive skill. Green and Benning will love to give him another shot since he has more maturity now. If NHL can give questionable players like Kovalchuk and Radulov before another chance, why not Trymkan? With another group of players & coaches, we should not be a give up on his potential, which looked to be on the rise with his past few good years in the KHL.

  18. I would think Tryamkin would like to maybe up his value on a 1 year contract, if he actually DOES wanna play in the NHL again. It's not like he set the world on fire last time. This might actually have an effect on the coaching situation too. We have 2 Russians coming in…so having a coach with no biases towards certain players might be a reason why Travis Green isn't signed yet?
