When You ‘Fail’ To Make NHL History

#nhl #hockey #edmontonoilers

The Edmonton Oilers lost 3-1 to the Vegas Golden Knights last night & that meant they fell short of tying the all time consecutive wins record in the NHL. We take a deeper look at how the Edmonton Oilers went from one of the worst teams in the league, to being cup favourites according to the sport books.

  1. They still made history they broke multiple records still and won 16 ganes in a row. That is great for them.

  2. they climbed from the basement of the league to playoffs spot contention. remarkable turnaround and should be commended all the same

  3. No arguments. Edmonton didn't play defend and played panic, and Vegas was the more disciplined team on this night.

It's that simple. You could feel it as the game went on. Now Vegas goalie was elite in this game.

This game was a defensive mess. Edmonton had a silly defensive game after 16 wins. That's it, that's all.

  4. I think one thing people aren’t talking about the most is how good Skinner got during this run dude was questionable before but if he can keep up solid numbers, he will have a home as a starting goaltender

  5. That stretch certainly saved their season.

I had to quit watching after Woodcroft’s firing. The hole they dug themselves was immense.

I actually can’t believe they are sitting in a top 10 position right now.

  6. Realistically, there would have been an asterisk beside the record anyway. The Penguins did it with regulation wins…

  7. After their first 8 game win streak this year, everyone was chirping calling it fluke and it won't change their odds. Lost 3 games then came right back for a 16 game win streak. They lost but who cares… The team played amazing through out. I hope they can just bounce back. Also, they didn't "fail" at making NHL history. They set multiple records during this streak. Just didn't get the Longest Win Streak.

  8. They made franchise history, western Conference history, and Canadian history.

Vegas can't take that away from them.

Oilers are officially a wagon. Vegas is in trouble. Big trouble.

  9. To give the knights credit, they only gave the oliers one chance, which they scored. But that was it. God I hate them. I would describe the knights as pestering hornets who are determined to bite you.

  10. Yet again, very insightful analysis.
I must insist you send your videos and resume to CBC Hockey Night in Canada.
Those coma inducing drones have 1/2 the insight and zero the personality you bring.
    Nice work.

  11. Adin Hill is an elite goalie. His GSAA — which is a cumulative stat, by the way, it doesn't pro-rate to 60:00 minutes like GAA — is more than Demko's IN HALF AS MANY STARTS! His save percentage is 39% better than the league average. His goals allowed average (opponents' S% normalized so that 100 is average and 99 is 1% better than 100) in Vegas's cup run would have been top-3 in the league had it played out over the whole season. I hear everyone coming out with their mock Olympic rosters, and quite frankly, Adin Hill WILL be the starter for Canada (barring injury). Hell if the Olympics were tomorrow, he'd be my pick.

  12. Great video, and you`re one of the few guys out there that understands the combination of defense and goaltending. People still think it was goalies that let the Oilers down to start the season. In fact it was bad team defense paired with subpar goalies. The gaps, space and absence of any pressure have been a feast for other teams forwards during that 18 games.

The Oilers, i`m not sure about them. 16 W is impressive. But the schedule was soft and the first proper opponent did bring down the streak.
How good is their middle 6 and their D really? How good is their goaltending at all? They are running Skinner + Pickard, which is by no means a great tandem in the league.
They could use a 2nd line RW, a 3rd line Center, a top pair RD, a veteran backup. Good luck without cap space to figure that out.

Right now, if i look at Florida, NYR, Bruins, Nucks, Jets, Avs, even Vegas when healthy, they seem to have more pieces in place.
Look at the Avs, add a goalie and some depth, and that`s a cup winning team.

  13. LETS GO OILERS! Great video analysis bro. We got weak spots but at least we look like we're finally trying
