2024 NFL MOCK DRAFT 1.0 | Mel Kiper ESPN Special

2024 NFL MOCK DRAFT 1.0 | Mel Kiper ESPN Special

It’s finally here less than a 100 days away from the NFL draft Mal Kyper Jr’s first mock is out we break down 1.0 next fun hour ahead on this Sports Center special we’ve got fil Yates in the house we got Matt Miller and we’ve got the man who made the NFL draft and

Industry the great M you guys know what time it is 2024 draft time you have said the first mock is the easiest one why Kev let it rip yeah just go with what you know go with your ratings go with the needs as they stand right now

Prior to free agency all this prior to the senior ball prior to the combine so you know what you know from the season you know what the needs are right now and you just slot those guys right in so sometimes Kev this mock turns out to be

More accurate than the one you do in April or the morning of the draft so sometimes your best feeling your most accurate rating is your first so let’s go it’s it’s been a lot of fun and there’s still debate as to what the Bears should do at that number one spot

This show has plenty of upside that’s what Mel basically said let start time to get started we’ll be covering this all the way through the end of April tra the first overall pick to Carolina for the ninth selection and in doing so they received DJ Moore and Carolina’s 2024

First which ended up being the number one pick and the Panthers taking Bryce young the Bears ended this season with promise winning four their last six games following Justin Fields return to the lineup after a three and eight start the Bears elected to now keep head coach

Matt eberl for a third season but they fired offensive coordinator Luke gy and four members of the offensive staff sources telling ESPN they’re bringing in Shane Waldren as their next OC so they’ve got some offseason options that is the key here specifically for Ryan Po and company and they can hold on

To fields and once again trade the number one pi pick or they could trade Justin Fields not field Gates and replace him with a stud quarterback at the the top of the draft here Mel what should the Bears do yeah it’s a debate that I’ve been

Going through for a month now back and forth I think Caleb Williams if you’re even in terms of where you think Justin Fields can be maybe not franchise but good but you think Caleb Williams maybe could be top five you take Caleb be reset the clock Caleb Williams in 2022

Was phenomenal this year he got off to the great start looked like he win a Heisman trophy for the second time right be Archie Griffin well at the Notre aim game midseason three interceptions from that point on he’s at you know 55% against Cal 57% in the game he wasn’t

The same player but he did throw seven touchdown passes only inter one one interception and five rushing touchdowns so this is a guy didn’t turn the ball over and over a two-year period was responsible rushing and passing for 93 touchdowns so for Caleb Williams the

Debate for the Bears is do we stick with the guy that we think can develop with the new offensive staff coming in or do we feel he’s basically as good as he’s going to be and Caleb could be great remember the players with the Bears are behind Justin fields that doesn’t mean

That Ryan po was going to say hey we got to stick with Fields because the players love them but this is a tough decision how much can you get in return for that number one pick a lot you guys are going to have to drop me all your comments

Below so we can I’ll try and typ back to all of you I think it is because there’s an unknown back Caleb but there’s an unknown this one’s going to be controversial can be I’m going to take Caleb Williams number one reset the clock and hope I hit the jackpot and get

A top five quarterback in Caleb Williams and it’s hard to ignore you said reset the clock here specifically how much money do you want to commit longterm I’m not saying that’s what I would do but it does sound like the Bears are going to move on from fields and take CB we want

To do what would you with the number one pick this one’s easy to me Kevin now I understand that Ryan poles has a lot more responsibility than I do I’m just a guy sitting here talking about it on TV but I’m taking a quarterback it’s Caleb Williams and let’s reframe this question

A little bit differently imagine a World in which the Los Angeles Chargers had the number one overall pick in the draft because they made a trade with Carolina last year would you be sitting here asking me Kevin Hey feel hey you know should should the Chargers take Caleb

Williams to replace Justin Herbert of course not you would be saying the Chargers have Justin Herbert and they can trade that first overall pick for five first round picks or picks from other teams somewhere else to me when there is not Clarity that quarterback situation it tells you he’s not the

Long-term answer with a guarantee Caleb Williams the number one Prospect in this year’s class offers the opportunity to potentially have a top 10 quarterback in the NFL by the time he reaches the juncture of his career that Justin field is currently at we all love kaleed Williams and the Bears last year made

That trade down in part because they were able to forecast what this year’s draft class looks like now is the time to reset that clock and build this team this franchise around a player in Caleb Williams that is certainly worth the win they control the certainly sounds like

That’s what going your thoughts they could keep fields and trade that pick ask yourself is is this quarterback the guy not the guy and like Fields said that is exactly where we’re at with Justin Fields however I will say this if you’re Ryan PS and Ryan I know will be

Watching this so he should listen to the three of us you’re never going to get a higher return on investment for Justin Fields than you are right now if you put Justin Fields out on this imaginary trade block right if you’re playing Madden and you put Justin Fields out

There this is the best you’re ever going to get back for him it might be a third round pick it might be a late second round pick because there’s not that middle tier of quarterbacks in this draft that we believe can be starters we’re going to hear a lot of names and

First round those guys are starters if we did a round two round three mock there aren’t a lot of guys this year where you’re saying I believe in him as a future starter so I think that’s where if you’re the Atlanta Falcons the Seattle Seahawks the Minnesota Vikings

You’re missing out on the big three quarterbacks in this draft Justin Fields could be your guy and for Ryan poles this is a gift that keeps on giving because you can get even more draft capital and now you’re talking about being able to build a team from this

Trade last year for the number one overall pick just think all the assets and resources Ryan PS now has to work with hey Ryan if you’re watching the this stick around because we also have another pick at number nine that you’re fully aware of right and what to do and

How do you help Caleb Williams let’s go to number two because I think the shape of this draft I we need to see I’m a Patriots fan so we need to see what we’re doing at three here probably quarterback and Mel where you going number two all the mo have Jaden Daniels

At three 10 rushing and only four interceptions that’s remarkable the balance he strikes guys between being aggressive running and taking shots throwing the ball right not being conservative yet not turning it over to strike that balance is amazing and to do it two years in a row keep in mind he

Didn’t have the touchdowns but he still didn’t turn the ball over even as a first year player at this program at LSU so we think about Herm Edwards right Herm recruited him to Arizona State and coached them herm’s comp and I know Matt you’re into comps right Herms comp is

Randall Cunningham I’ll take it wow all right wow I love that Matt what do you think about this the idea Daniels a guy that was projected to the start of the Season maybe a fourth round pick a fifth round pick going ahead of North Carolina quarterback Drake may as the second

Quarterback taken in the giraffe at number two I had a rando cutting ham Jersey when I was 12 years old so I love that comp by the way but Mel welcome to the good side of this having J Daniels is qb2 you’re you’re field deny now You’ your quarterback rankings are right I’m

Proud of you for getting here before the Senior Bowl I love this pick I think this is exactly what Washington needs you need someone Dynamic we saw Sam Hal have some flashes early in the year he’s not the guy long term but you have receivers you have Terry McClaren you

Have Jan Dodson Brian Robinson at tailback we can see Jaden Daniels be a point guard we saw at times this year with these two fantastic receivers but he can also be the offense so whether you want to call it Randle Cunningham or Lamar Jackson he’s a dynamic weapon and

I think he’s the best deep ball thrower in the draft ahead of Michael penck Jr at Washington 22 touchdowns zero interceptions this year on passes over 20 yards a qbr of 99.5 basically Flawless throwing the ball so this is not just a running quarterback this is an NFL quarterback

Who could play Under Center can play in the gun and can throw it all over the yard you’re splitting hairs when you’re talking about the second versus the third best player quarterback in the draft with Jaden Daniels ahead may not talk a little bit more about how Jaden

Daniels changes the math that a defense is able to play right because in terms of players with over a 100 rushing attempts this past season Jaden Daniels averaged more rushing yards per attempt than anybody else in the country just asked Florida this game that watch don’t

Show the Florida game we don’t need to see this yard Kevin play in all of college football this past season yes LSU had two incredible wide receivers one of which will be a top 10 pick one of which will be another first round pick and Brian Thomas J and also Malik neighbors but

Make no mistake about it this team went as far as Jaden Daniels would take it this past season an incredible season a Heisman Trophy winning season 40 touchdowns four interceptions my favorite player to watch in this entire draft wow yeah I’ll tell you what I I spent a

Lot of hours on the phone anything think about talking us over and thinking about where we’re going to go with Jaden Daniels after last year I talked to Regina’s mom about going back how important that was that decision Regina and Jaden made a fourth round pick had

To come out last year the number two pick Maybe by going back and that’s the decision that was critical he evolved he developed he became a great quarterback and like I say you’re talking about a guy who was dag on near perfect throughout the course of the season for

Brian Kelly bringing that team back when their defense couldn’t stop anybody so the pressure was on him to match points with the opposition and he did it week in and week out so we got two teams with quarterback needs Taking quarterbacks and Drake may still on the board and

That is a franchise at number three are we getting Marv or we getting think Patriots go the third pick now it’s not that surprising with bich moving on and it’s not just him it’s a whole new staff that’s going to have to get this position has been pretty good overall

Really go back into history with rothberger behind rivers and Manning right Josh Allen behind darnold and Baker think about Herbert behind and Joe burrow so you look at at Drake May to be number three overall why is he three not two or one he had some struggles he had

Some games that may just scratch head scratcher saying what’s going on here NC State game a couple picks he’s at 58% think about where he was after that in along the way Virginia game they’re a big favor 24-point favor he’s struggling with throws that he should have

Completed in that game the other games along the way wasn’t spectacular but he had a new coordinator he didn’t have Josh DS and in 2022 he when he had downs and he had green he had complimentary players around him and a system he was really outstanding at really uh leading

And developing his skills in he was a top pick and maybe we thought could challenge Caleb Williams number one overall that didn’t happen this year TZ Walker wasn’t there early in the year transferring in things just didn’t go his way he was like a pitcher didn’t

Have his best stuff this year but in 2022 to he did but the fact that he didn’t in some of those games I talked about is the reason why I have him going number three overall here to New England how do you see uh guy like May

Especially his size and arm how does he project in the NFL let’s start here this is not a consolation prize for the Patriots at pick three overall whoever they land out of those three quarterbacks is going to be a terrific player for them going forward it just is

A matter of how they structure their offense Drake May is a strike thrower Kevin don’t let us trade for Justin fields and dra any the quars because kid can flat out sling at 6’4 230 or so pounds got the prototypical build to be an NFL quarterback the reason why this

Conversation is different now than it was coming into the season is in large part because Jaden Daniels and clutch production moments when his team needed him as I mentioned he rose to the occasion Drake May in the North Carolina offense did not Thrive as much in games

In which they should have thrived hence the doors open but Drake May has all the goods to be a 10-year starter in the NFL Patriots feeling really good there Matt at three yeah listen Fields Right Drake May is a really good quarterback prospect just because he’s the third one off the board

Doesn’t mean that he’s bad I think it says more about the year Jaden Daniels had than the year that Drake may had now there are things you want to clean up he’s a two-year starter so he’s played the least amount of football of these three quarterbacks being drafted that

Leads to some things like ball placement being inconsistent I think at times he doesn’t bring his lower body with him as a thrower guess what Patrick Mahomes did that at Texas Tech too he had to learn to do it in the NFL he’s pretty good now like Mahomes though I wouldn’t be

Surprised if May does need to sit longer than a Caleb Williams or Jaden Daniels just to iron out some of those lower body mechanical issues but we’re not taking a that’s who my comp would be Mel loves the comp show I’m sure we’ll have

It soon but I think he can be a Justin Herbert type thrower in the NFL New England is a complete rebuild though so that we got to talk about who do you get as his left tackle who do you get as his wide receiver he’s to car team that’s

What gives me some pause because as without Josh DS without TZ Walker that is when he struggled the most that’s an excellent point especially when you talk about the first two two teams off the board they have at least a wide receiver one specifically for those young quarterbacks who’s that guy in New

England if you take Drake May there at three overall coming up this is a loaded class all like I said you guys you have to drop me your comments down below so we can dig into this stuff it’s only the beginning we have a long way to go later that continues after

This this new charman Ultra softs Mel Kyper Junior mock draft 1.0 special Cardinals are on the clock at four mil Mar G to the Cardinal with Kyler wo yeah was pretty good to be picking four in be Arizona get the second best player in the draft but Marvin Harrison Jr what a

Will of a player he has been and you think about what he did with CJ strad right what how’s he going to do with Kyle McCord well he had 10 fewer receptions this year with Kyle McCord but guess what he averaged two yards more per catch went from 16 to 18 from

Shroud the mccon at equally as many touchdown receptions 14 two years ago 14 this year he is a guy you about a Difference Maker think about two years ago they’re in the semi-final game right they’re going up 38-24 when he’s injured okay didn’t play in the fourth quarter

They came back Georgia did won the game Ohio State actually had a shot late with a Miss field goal but that if he plays that fourth quarter Ohio State I think beats Georgia moves on and beats TCU and wins a national title so that’s how critical that’s how vital he was to that

Ohio State football team and a great player like his dad and I was with his dad at the Bowl way back in the mid 90s bigger than than Marvin Harrison Senor and the same businesslike workmanlike approach he’s a gamer he’s a baller and you will want Marvin Harrison J on that

Georgia Ohio State team too CJ stra was fantastic did all he could trying to actually create some offense in the fourth quarter without his main target here Matt what do you think of Harrison being the first non-quarterback off the board yeah this is absolutely right and how fortunate are the Arizona Cardinals

Like Mel said to get the second best maybe first best player in this draft at number four overall listen he’s the best receiver I’ve evaluated I started doing this professionally in 2011 I know I haven’t been doing it as long as Mel but he’s he’s perfect there there are not

Very many holes in his game you have to be incredibly picky and say maybe there’s some drops here there but he was adjusted to a quarterback to be 6’4 quite a bit taller than his dad was who was a Hall of Famer and have the route running ability that he has the footwork

The body control to be able to adjust to go get low balls but then also to be able to High Point and win 50/50 passes so it’s just incredibly a Julio Jones Calvin Johnson when you talk about being one of the best wide receivers we’ve seen in the last 20

Years and this is exactly what the Cardinals need with Kyler Murray coming back he showed a lot of flashes this year coming back off injury he needs a big go-to wide receiver just like Marvin Harrison Jr no weaknesses there’s no weakness in Marvin Harrison Jr’s game one of the hardest parts about

Evaluating Big 10 quarterbacks this past year was making sure that the tape not covering Marvin Harrison Jr still mattered cuz they all look terrible against Marin Harrison Jr and some of these guys might go in the first 100 picks of the draft he’s got outstanding body control I don’t even care what his

40 timeing he up K King if you guys remember that game because he is plenty fast faster than most defensive backs who ever lined up opposite him the Arizona Cardinals fell out of that range where three quarterbacks are likely to be available and avoided the Kyler

Murray conversation do we keep him or do we not even though they said publicly they are but this one worked out incredibly seamlessly Marvin Harrison Jr is an easy pick at number four no weaknesses that is quite a statement Mel at number five we got a Chargers team

With a coaching staff we’re waiting to hear from who that would be who’s heading to LA with this pick in your mind let’s help Justin Herbert out make him happy and get a weapon in that pass offense a tight end he’s a receiving entity and he is a great one two years

With his national championship teams he was remarkable think about 119 catches 155 average and 20 touchdowns this year he had the tight rope surgery Vander built game came back from that production down just a bit but here’s a kid who can run catch he’ll block he

Will be a dynamic player in that offense a team that had some options at that spot could take an offensive tackle could take a wide receiver like Neighbors from LSU or maybe even a guy like Odun from Washington who I love but I think Brock Bowers the versatility he

Will provide the fact that he was so Dynamic and so consistent reliable with Georgia he is going to translate to a big time player right away in the NFL and the Chargers I think will benefit fit tremendously and certainly it’ll make Justin Herbert a lot better this is

Not your dad’s tight end here pH not at all right and listen one thing that Kyper said was specifically was weapon he is a weapon in Brock bers what do you think though at the value at number five and what the Chargers need taking Brock Bowers there I love Brock Bowers and

This hurts to say this right now Kevin but I would be taking an offensive tackle or a wide receiver I would lean towards an offensive tackle specifically Joel from Notre Dame is sitting there waiting in the wings to be taken to be your franchise right tackle because they

Already have their franchise left tackle in Ran Slater and I’d say to myself three of the hardest positions to find in all of football are now taken care of for the Los Angeles Chargers the two tackles and the quarterback spot if these players reach their absolute

Upside as we know that’s what you are always striving for with a top 10 pick in this case a top five pick a Top Flight right tackle is going to make 25 to $30 million a year in today’s NFL a Top Flight tight end is now making

Between 15 and $177 million the league has told us what positions it values the most and Joe Walt despite being a left tackle at Notre Dame can be a Pro Bowl right tackle for the Los Angeles Chargers they could have those book ends for a long time going

Forward yeah it’s like pan Su going to the Detroit Lines you already had a left tackle but you take the best player available he becomes an allpro right tackle I like your idea there field man I’m looking at these wide receivers though and say Malik neighbors is sitting right there waiting for you

Keenan Allen getting older Mike Williams has not been the same since injury one or both of those guys could be salary cap healthy I love Brock Bowers I think he could be a George KD a Sam leapa but Malik neighbors is your new number one wide receiver in this offense with the

Stop start ability with what he does yards after catch it’s the best in the draft and last year’s first- round pick Quinton Johnston huge opportunity to get it done this year couldn’t do it and as you move to a new front office a new head coach they have to evaluate this

Room and say how can we help Justin Herbert I don’t mind the right tackle idea that’s a good one but I think wide receiver a go-to young wide receiver and Malik neighbor sitting there that’s the direction I go love Brock Bowers but this is a little Rich for a tight end

When you got Elite wide receivers still on the board three different positions at pick number five and that just gives you the idea that the Chargers have plenty of options let’s go to number six here Mel when we talk about the New York football Giants they have a ton of

Questions who do you have New York drafting at six yeah Daniel Jones coming back from the injury and there’s my Leake neighbors matfield this is a guy who was incred incredible this year you talk about this season 89 catches almost an 18 yard average and 14 touchdowns you

Know he had seven touchdowns combined to two previous years so he was really with Brian Thomas Jr and Jadon Daniels throwing the football lighting it up he was uncoverable in a lot of those games and you talk about Booger McFarland’s favorite word physicality that’s Malik neighbors he said hey you come from

Louisiana you play through injuries you play through pain you go out there and you’re a baller so for Malik neighbors what a year he had and guess what the other receiver at LSU will be coming off the board and then not do distant future here yeah Jaden Daniels had so many

Options so we got the second LSU star in that potent offense off the board in the top six another pass catcher here Matt what do you think about neighbors going in this spot at number six to New York I don’t want to give Kyper an ego

But this is a great pick this is maybe my favorite pick of the draft thus far New York needs a number one weapon like this neighbors he would be up there no one receiver last year many other years maybe take out the Jamar Chase year Neighbors speci he is physical as Mel

Said but it’s that yards after catch now you have Jaylen hayatt W Del Robinson you throw Malik neighbors this is Elite yards after catch which I think Brian dable coming from that Andy Reid tree would love to have speed there all right so Kevin a little while ago I said no

Weaknesses in the game of Marvin Harrison Jr two things can be true at once that part of the statement and also this the gap between Marvin Harrison Jr and Malik neighbors not that substantial that’s much more a testament to Malik neighbors than it is any kind of deficiency from Marvin Harrison Jr but

This is the most explosive player in the entire draft M was just talking about the physicality you pair that with the explosiveness now during the NFL draft as we all know for TV purposes we these teams like to take up every second also to negotiate potential trades here’s my

Advice for the New York Giants the clock starts and just run sprints right to Detroit and say Malik neighbors LSU wide receiver prin Jersey he’s number eight I Daniel Jones is switching numbers too bad Danny dimes cuz we got you a new number one wide receiver love the pick

Love Malik neighbors he instantly changes this offense and they desperately need that given how thin they already were at wide receiver this past season and some of the guys currently scheduled to become and here’s the crazy thing Roma dun is still on the board and we talking about a guy that

Any other year maybe could have been the number one wide receiver off the board cannot wait to see what’s next for you guys up next now six picks the board not trying to beat the dead horse here but this draft very good at quarterback and maybe 12 to 15 receivers

Top 100 pick like it’s very very good at those position I love meun tooi here back with Mel Kyper Jr’s mock draft 1.0 special here’s how things look so far six picks in still no defensive players or offensive linemen have been Tak plenty of talent especially at the

Tackle position Mel uh does that change here with the Titans who have a new coaching staff keev it does Joe wall goes to a Tennessee Titan team he couldn’t block it anybody it was Ola block after OA block will Lis how he held up then he

Got hurt yeah showed that he can be a franchise quarterback with the Tennessee Titans but help him out I scouted Joe Al’s Father John right when John Al came out he was 67275 pounds Joe alal now here we are in 2024 67 322 PBS Joe Al will be an

Outstanding book and Tackle them for a long time Atlanta needs a pass rusher here the Nifty n on offense now we get a defensive player right Dallas Turner he with no Will Anderson Jr he went from four sacks to 10 sacks eight tackles for loss to 14 and a half two Force fumbles

He was really getting after the quarterback off the edge consistent week in and week out and the production finishing getting those sacks critical into the first half end of games in the NFL Dallas Turner has the ability to do that for the Atlanta Falcons and when

They look at the Falcons looking for a new head coach and they have also targeted a lot of offens of weapons especially ear early in the first round the last few years so Matt Turner the first defensive player off the board is he the most talented defensive player in this

Draft yeah Kevin he is he is my top rated defensive player just inside the top 10 this is not a draft class heavy on Blue Chip defensive Talent it is a draft class very heavy on defens the number one player on defense in this we’ll see that play out in Mel’s mock

Here Turner is the best he’s a little bit under sized around 245 lounds think of Josh Allen with the Jacksonville Jaguars that’s the type of pass rusher he can be play him in space play him off the edge better against the Run a lot of people assume because the size but he

Will instantly give Atlanta that tier one pass rush prospect that they really need all right now we are going to the ninth pick and the Bears are back on the clock Ryan poles are you watching Mel let’s bring you in after taking Caleb Williams first overall where can they help Williams at

N if he’s there guys if he’s there rbo dun have Washington get the QB you get the go-to option opposite DJ Moore are you kidding me I think when you look at OD dun the consistency that this kid was week in and week out 15 games right 14 of those

Games five or more reception only game he did in Utah three receptions 111 yards two touchdowns against Argan he was uncoverable and guess what if Michael penx Jr would have been more accurate in that national title game o dun would add two or three more receptions in that contest 63 215 pound

Pounder draws comparisons to Jamar Chase Romo dun may not be on the board but in this mock he slid down to nine if he’s there talk bet within seconds to get that card up that’s what it would take me to get Romo dun’s name on the card to

Become a Chicago Bear Hey listen a year ago Caleb Williams and the offense with Jordan Addison you saw the numbers he put up and he was a Heisman winner Phil what do you think about the potential pairing of Williams and Odun together in Chicago yeah I might have to borrow some

Of your salary Kev to buy some bear stock because this would be a home run start to the draft for Ryan P who of course we do believe is watching let’s talk about what romad dunesday does well the answer is pretty much everything body control terrific in the Red Zone

You see it right right there he’s an awesome route Runner he is terrific after the catch as well as we know Washington that offense was almost predicated upon those wide receivers scens he’s got a big catch radius he rarely drops the football he and Caleb Williams would have an instant Rapport

In chemistry and Beyond DJ Moore this past season the Bears were looking for answers at that second wide receiver spot K KC kind of emerged as the next most reliable passing game option he of course is a good capable tight end they need more difference makers down the

Field romad dun would provide that this would be a terrific start for Chicago with just nine picks off the board in this month okay now we’re going to number 10 here Mel and the Jets are on the clock desperately need some kind of protection up front for when Aaron

Rogers makes his return who you got there at 10 Olu fashion watching play high school football with Caleb Williams Caleb was a quarterback of Gonzaga U fashion was blocking up from on that offensive line and you look at what he did at pight the development of this kid over the last

Couple years He will draw comparisons in my opinion Matt you correct me if I’m wrong to a Ronnie Stanley who I see here with the Baltimore Ravens formerly of Notre Dame top 10 pick overall when he came out fashu the Jets need they need tackle help both sides fashu can be that

Immediate impact player that guy that can be that book in and really help out Aaron Rogers got what hurt with a couple plays in the last season he’s got a couple years he hopes left with the New York Jets fash would be a good way to start rebuilding and developing that

Offensive line four plays in Mel four plays into his Jets career a hes popping on the biggest stage the Jets certainly need an upgrade on the offensive line and listen if you look at their pass history they have tried they ranked in the bottom four in both pass block and

Run block win rate left tackle maai beckon could depart in free agency 2021 first round pick Elijah ver Tucker coming off two straight injury short in Seasons they have tried to Target this position especially early in the first round of the pass it is not panned out

We know they need an upgrade to protect Rogers here Matt is fashion a guy that can immediately make an impact yeah he absolutely is and I think for a lot of people starting the season he was the number one offensive tackle in this class he did slide down a little

Bit I’ve moved him down slightly on my board you go back and watch really two years against Ohio State the one team that was really able to work him over I think in the Run game he has to get better Aaron Rogers doesn’t care about him getting better in the Run game he

Cares about keeping him clean in the pass game here’s the advice to Joe Douglas the GM of the Jets everyone in the NFL knows you need a left tackle just like you did last year when the Pittsburgh Steelers jumped you for bradrick Jones do whatever it takes this

Year to get into the neighborhood of Joe all or U fashanu because you have to walk out of round one with a left tackle yeah they have needs a wide receiver maybe needs on defense forget about that we don’t care about that until later in

The draft you have to get a left tackle to protect Aaron roders and fanu really shouldn’t be on the board at 10 overall but we saw that run on quarterbacks and pass catchers so they get very lucky that he’s still here I mean they could hit free AG take at

11 straight defensive players coming off the board including air of quacks the first two coming off including Nate Wiggins to the Vikings terion Arnold to the Raiders then the fourth and fifth wide receivers in the top 15 we talked about it before Brian Thomas Jr he’ll go

To the Saints and then Keon Coleman the huge Target from Florida State going to the Colts and Shane strikin offense there and Mel we’ve got the Seahawks sitting there at 16 here and I cannot wait for this conversation who do you have Seattle taking at 16

Uhoh I’ll tell you what qb4 is going to be JJ McCarthy in my opinion you talk about JJ you think didn’t throw the ball a lot in some games right at Penn State game n no passes in the second half bottom line is when you look at JJ the

Throws he made the clutch throws he made because he didn’t throw the ball 40 50 times a game right well you’re talking about a guy who can beat you with his legs as you showed in the national title game that key run to move the chains and

Get him out of that ter territory they were in and flip the field in terms of field position JJ McCarthy doesn’t throw a lot of picks but we remember the two pick sixes against TCU the three against Bowling Green to pick before the half against Maryland outside of that he was

Clean okay he didn’t turn it over and he can run he’s going to test out off the charts athletically he’s a phenomenal kid with Josh Allen type competitiveness I think he goes in this general area and on a team that can develop him he just turned 21 years of age Seattle can

Develop him let him sit watch and learn for a year and have him as the a parent at quarterback it’s another team after those top 10 pi the draft really just starts to like go czy Matt how do you see mcarthy projecting at the next level yeah I think he projects as a

Starter Mel and I have to be talking to the same people because I heard this week that Seattle has been doing a ton of work on JJ McCarthy so we’re going to have to compare contact information after this m but this is a great pick for them like he said just turned 21

Years old last week when he did throw the ball at Michigan he was incredibly efficient there’s a throw against Ohio State where he sees that the linebacker is not going to turn his head in time and he just draws a bullet right to his wide EAS the best arm strength is more

Than enough to make every throw in the NFL I think he’s a more athletic KK cousins type quarterback at the next level where yes he’s going to have to be helped by the scheme you’re going to want to pair him with a good wide receiver who can extend his Strike Zone

A little bit but coming in you can play behind Gino Smith you can learn whatever this new system’s going to be there’s a good young offensive line in place there’s Playmakers at running back there’s Playmakers at wide receiver so this is a really good environment for a

Rookie quarterback to come in learn and then step in maybe late year one or early year two all right through the prism of JJ McCarthy’s own landing spot I love the pick Seattle has all kinds of weapons he could wait a year or perhaps more the problem is if I’m the Seattle

Seahawks right now I’m thinking about defense Kevin because Gino Smith is 33 years old the guy had like a decade of sitting on the bench it’s not like he’s got a lot of wear and ter he’s got two years left on his contract played at a high level especially in the second half

Of last season so unless JJ McCarthy is going to put on 100 lb and can all of a sudden stuff the run I think it needs to be defense defense defense for Seattle early in this draft they have invested heavily along the offensive line and have a great Trio of wide receivers and

Despite some Investments last year on the defensive side of the ball that was the rilles heel once again I think Seattle needs to be thinking about a meat and potatoes defensive draft they nailed their fifth overall pick last year in Deon Withers spon time now to address that front seven between players

That are scheduled to become free agents and also just holes that need to be filled in a significant way to your point field there’s going to be plenty of defensive Talent at 16 if we do see five wide receivers off the board early on right if we see three quarterbacks in

The first three picks and we see some offensive tackles there go in the top 10 then all of a sudden you’re like hey we could get some Talent specifically at 16 that’s going to be actually true value at that number up next that’s Super Bowl

Champ has not been C I agree withi on this season but what do this year’s playoff teams need in the up coming draft Mel tells us think next 16 more picks to go Mel’s mock draft 1.0 who else will land in the first round find out after

This back here Mel kypers first mock 1.0 we move into the second half of the first round the Jaguars going cornerback Cooper deene from Iowa and then the Bengals with a potential replacement for free agent Jonah Williams at right tackle and Alabama’s JC lapam and then the Rams going with Florida State

Defensive then Jared ver and back here with Mel what do you uh think of the direction here with Pittsburgh sitting there at 20 D you think about last year first picking the second round he took Joey Porter Jr cornerback I think they go back to that spot again think about this

Division Watson’s coming back from the injury Joe Burrow’s coming back the afc’s loaded with great quarterbacks and Kamari Lasser he was in the hit pocket of receivers all year not penalized though only had one career interception but he had 10 in high school he was a

Wide receiver as well in high school and he is an aggressive football player eight and a half tackles for loss the last two years he will get after it he is a kid who I was really impressed with he was glued the receivers yet he wasn’t handsy wasn’t grabby not penalized very

Often so I like that aspect of his game moving forward I think he’s an underrated player that’s going to move up the draft boards as we go through this process so uh field a couple years ago yeah at pick 20 the Steelers needed a quarterback and they went with Kenny picket

The jury still out on K Kenny picket here what do you think of this pick by Mel should they be looking at quarterback I don’t think the jury is still out Kevin I think it’s time for another quarterback they definitely should be looking steers because the

Worst thing that you can do after making a quarterback mistake is continuing to go back to the well the Pittsburgh Steelers need to think long and hard about the ceiling that Kenny pick can bring this franchise I mean they were down to their third string quarterback Mason rudoff in a wildcard playoff game

Against the Buffalo Bills whether it’s a Michael penx Jr a bow Knicks from Oregon maybe JJ McCarthy last to pick 20 in this year’s draft one of those three players I believe gives the Pittsburgh Steelers a higher upside and for a team that always finds a way to above 500

We’re not worried about that anymore Kevin we’re worried about winning playoff games a problem for the Steelers in their past three I really like JJ McCarthy there at 20 especially with cold weather as well yeah totally all right let’s move on the outside of the top 20 here the

Dolphins they had some uh offensive line injuries this season Mel got the taking guard Troy fonu right there and then Eagles rebuilding on the line with tackle T AC fuaga Texans with a pick they got from the Browns in the Deshawn Watson trade they’re going defensive

Line and then at number 24 M back here the Cowboys sent home early again they were expecting maybe a deep playoff run who do you have them at 24 taking think of the left tackle an experienced guy Jordan Morgan at Arizona Jed fish did a great job he’s now with

The Washington Huskies and Jed fish had a guy come back because he got hurt two years ago later in that year against UCLA the upset the Bruins as they beat him this year again but he got hurt in that game in ACL guess what in nine

Months he’s back on the field so his best football is coming up you know you want to be two years removed from that injury he still played and played I thought pretty well for a guy coming off an ACL didn’t have surgery till late November they say nine months he’s back

In that starting lineup Jordan Morgan a left tackle be a plug-and play type left tackle who will get better play say now he’s more and more removed from that ACL injury if you look at the history Matt sometimes the Cowboys go best player available no matter what position they

Play do you like this pick for the boys or are there bigger concerns on this roster yeah I do like the pick Tyron Smith the long-term left tackle is a free agent if he leaves Tyler Smith the left guard likely slides over Jordan Morgan someone Scouts think could play

Guard at the next level so the Cowboys like versatility up front I can see that pick but I’m looking at all the wide receivers still on the board I know a ton have come off already but we got to get more help out here CD lamb just had

A great year but a wide receiver too like Xavier worthy from Texas will really open up this offense give you more of a run after catch threat so the comes back to right offensive line see that guy they’re stuck withl drafting offensive lineman turning those guys

Into all Pros it is a need but I’m looking at that wide receiver room thinking they got to get younger opposite CD lamb they have been looking for a number two wide receiver for years here now let’s get to the teams eliminated this past weekend how about

The Packers who have nailed a ton of wide receiver picks they’re going to go with protection BYU tackle Kingsley and the Bucks going to the defensive line with chop Robinson the Cardinals in a pick from the Texans they were probably hoping would be higher than 27 when they made the trade last

Year getting Oklahoma tackled Tyler gon and the bills a potential replacement for free agent G DAV in Texas receiver Adon Mitchell they really missed Gabe Davis over the weekend in that loss of the Chiefs Mel we we Ed FBI to determine the draft slots for the four teams still

In the playoffs here who do you see the Chiefs taking if they were to pick 29th here I’ll tell you a wide receiver a weapon great Patrick Mahomes and Troy Franklin at Oregon two years with Bo Knicks right think about production 142 catches 16 yard average and 23

Touchdowns for bow knck this guy’s running vertical routes he’s five six yards behind cornerbacks he six3 about 185 lb he’s angular he’s got to put on a little weight and he’s still not not as polished as you would want he drop a pass every now and then but the ability

To take that top off a defense for the Kansas State chasing there’s going to be a lot of good receivers going in the second round we haven’t even talked about a Malachi Corley from Western Kentucky Matt mentioned Xavier Legette from Texas how about X you from South Carolina Xavier worthy from Texas this

Is a really good lad makoni Georgia wide receivers in round two are going to be outstanding Franklin could drop TZ Walker North Carolina another good but if he if you take a receiver here the Chiefs I’m hearing a lot or’s got another dude that’s pretty Electric in T

Johnson hey Chiefs fans too don’t get mad at us fpi we haven’t seen or 29th pick you could be playing and have that pick maybe at 32 like we’ve seen of course last year now Brett Fe has done a phenomenal job the GM of the Chiefs here field in one understanding hey I’m

Paying my quarterback I’ve got to get young talent that can immediately play we saw that with the secondary here what do you think of looking at wide receiver and the target here for Troy FL Troy Franklin makes perfect sense for the Chiefs for one very specific reason they

Need to change the dimensions of their passing game one thing that has really been lacking this season up until their last three competitive games was explosive plays look at where they ranked last season in plays of at least 20 yards in 2022 again this was without Tyreek Hill 82 that’s first in the

Entire NFL this year down to 62 that’s tied for 14 middle of the pack as Mel mentioned there’s one thing that Troy Franklin does about as well as any wide receiver any player in this draft it’s run this guy is going to blaze the 40 during the combine he would change the

Way that this passing game will operate at all three levels because you can no longer stay within 10 or 12 yards of line of scrimage against Kansas City because if you do Troy Franklin will be way behind you running for six points and then of course number 15 smiling and

Throwing that deep ball they need that deep ball to extend the field still to come here 29 picks in and still no running backs find out if Mel has one of the other three Super Bowl contenders adding to their backfields next you can hear Lions fans jir GBS at 12 it worked

Here are the first 29 picks in mels mock draft 1.0 we’ll round out the first round after this all right we’re in the home stretch here Mel Kyer Junior’s mock draft 1.0 here’s the full board with all the picks filled in according to fpi because of the order here Detroit and Baltimore

Adding quarterbacks making that six total Corners taken and then Mel has the ners selecting the eighth offensive tackle of the Moa end the round no running backs by the way keep that in mind fun hour here guys the full board you guys got it we have plenty more mock

Drafts coming your way Fields mock draft 1.0 drops February 14th all right see see you let me know what you think

  1. If the bears were smart they would do like the Ravens in build around Fields actually use that 1st round pick in go get a top 2 WR to go with Moore grab a good fast option RB in A O line help some teams are just not the Ravens we’re blessed in Baltimore

  2. These analysts are stupid and the Bears world be dumb not to draft Marvin Harrison Jr. to go with DJ. Justin Fields is clearly not the problem in Chicago! Hell he might their best player on offense!

  3. As a Patriots fan i I want MHjr to go to the Patriots and draft a QB in the second round. He'd be the best receiver the Patriots have had since Randy Moss, too good to pass up.

  4. Calebs great but hea not gaureenteed either. I like fields but CJ easily prob be the best out of last year and this year. The real crime is letting Bears do this twice. Tried to tell the falcons to tank these past two years but no now they out of the hunt and still suck. Thankfully im a Chiefs fan.

  5. I agree im a Uga fan but them knocking him out def help us win that game. Thats also the game i knew CJ was a dawg and would picked him a 1000 times over Bryce young. Imagine if the chiefs could land Marvin JR. Would be over.

Love Odunze. He was a beast. Caleb and Rome. You win the drsft there.

  6. 15:58 Marvin Harrison Jr is good but Benjamin Morrison from Notre Dame did a damn good job at covering him. Probably the best CB in next years draft

  7. Undoubtedly if Chicago messes this up and takes Williams and he busts pace will never see a front office again. They’re not in a position to gamble and taking Williams is a gamble

  8. Unpopular opinion: I don’t get all the hoopla and fanfare over Drake Maye who played for a UNC team that was barely ranked. I can’t recall ONE Drake Maye highlight or anything else but everybody is in love with him. In addition the guy on the show is talking about “sitting” a QB yet selecting him all the way at 3? WOWZERS! WHO TF does that? To each their own I guess 🥴

  9. First of all Ryan Poles is an offensive lineman guy, he’s going after OT and a center. He will trade down for future #1 picks and keep Fields, why else did they hire Waldron? He’s going to make Fields the quarterback he should be. Y’all should know that

  10. If I’m Chicago I’d trade with Washington, draft harrison, then grab odunze at 9 bears would have 3 dominant receivers.

  11. Keep Fields who has too much talent, hire a QB & Offensive coaches that know the game of football, get a ton of impact draft picks for their #1.

  12. Tyson Bagent > Caleb Williams…Keep Justin Fields…Trade Down To 2nd Or 3rd Overall Pick…Trade Down From 9th Overall Pick Maybe…Acquire Draft Picks…Draft…Marvin Harrison, Jr…Jackson Powers-Johnson…T'Vondre Sweat…Tyler Nubin!!!

  13. I would've taken Marvin Harrison Jr if I was Chicago and come back at 9 and take the best defensive player available.

  14. The Titans have no WR'S worth anything. They need 3 Receivers and a couple TE'S. If you slow down Henry you'll beat the Titans.
