Key Metrics:
NHLeS: Age, league and position adjusted score of production. 20+ is typical 1st round value, but context is important.
INV%: Player points per game divided by team goals per game.
G%: Same as INV%, but goals-only.
IPP: Percentage of goals scored on the ice the player gets a point on.
P1: Any time you see P1, it represents primary points (a goal or primary assist).
ES: Any time you see ES, it represents even strength.
Cat%: The percentage increase or decrease in even strength goals for per 60 minutes of ice time relative to their team. A player on the ice for 4 GF/60 at even strength, on a team that scores 2 without him on the ice has an Off.Cat% of +100%. Likewise, if the player were on the ice for 1 GA/60, and the team allowed 2 without him on the ice, his Def.Cat% would also be +100%.

  1. Somewhat sad that Askarov didn't fall to Carolina, but still super-happy with the BPA choice they made in Jarvis. Pretty sure that Yaro will be a huge star in a few years for the Preds. Also, Nashville's always been a club that generally knows how to draft and develop defensemen. No question that they're betting that this pattern continues.

  2. I wish I knew how to learn to profile and look at upcoming players like you can to make confident decisions on their potential futures.

  3. re: Gunnarwolfe Fontaine. If he turns out ANYTHING like his sister, it's a smart pick. Skylar is pushing for the national program and is an absolute superstar.

  4. If you haven't already, you should go check out Nashville's 7th rounder from last year, Juuso Parssinen.

The kid earned a letter, and he's had a few games as TPS' first line center. He has some promise.

Also fun fact, one of my alma mater's (UAH) hometown heroes is the current leading scorer for TPS, Josh Kestner.

  5. I liked Evangelista in his DY. Saw London once that year looking for Stranges to do something (he didn’t and wasn’t good in his own zone, so Hunter limited his minutes) and noticed Evangelista’s elite work ethic and ability to do the dirty work that most skilled junior players don’t want to do. Felt very much like Bryan Rust.

Sure Evangelista isn’t a great skater, but I saw someone who came from far off draft radar going into the 2019-20 season into someone who earned more and more minutes (which isn’t easy to do for a non elite 17 year old in London with the Hunters’ usual system) and produced well all over the ice in my opinion.
