Steve wants greatness for the Toronto Maple Leafs! So do I. But Leafs management is missing something too if they can’t develop a player who has been with them since 2017. Toronto is corrupt.

IF you never want to trade Robertson then you should not be saying this.
I get that Steve's frustration is based on draft position and expectation vs. reality. If TL was a 4th round DP, it's easy for him to "just be a guy". The problem is that the Leaf's need to upgrade the blueline significantly, and right now TL would be one of the guys who is replaced.
Liljegren & a 1st for Tanev?
Has Liljegren been a problem for the past 3 years? Go ahead and add him to the list of players not in the core four that are currently a problem though.

I have an idea for changing a coaching tactic for this team. Have the Leaf's play without a goalie for first 10 minutes of the next two games. This will force the team to play with more effort early in the game and also play more defensively. It might be worth the risk of losing the games to get their heads into the game.
He was hurt and he is getting back in the swing of things. I think he might be ok with a little more time.

Yes Leiljgren had mono issues which he strugged to make the leafs from the Marlies an I believe it affect at times during a game to have the strenght along the boards to control possesion of the and the turnovers what happen to him trade 3rd round pick and Topi Neimemna or Lelijgren and a fourth for Chris Tanev from the Flames or a 3rd if comes down to it and Wendell clark said this the year to improve defence and centre to go for it and Nylander did not help the situation with big contract he got but in the last 4years of his contract it will be a great deal for the leafs for the way the Cap will go up.

We get bullied in the playoffs and Keffe refuses to protect his enforcers so they can play into shape ever. What is the team's record with Timmins on the ice? Part of the problem is the assistant taken care of defence act as forwards at times and taken care of their end own defence to cut down on the goals and protect their goalie in the leaque no matter who is in net for the leafs , the leafs play defence and poor coverage at times and Sheldon Keefe needs to drill this on the defence coach to make sure our defence looks good at all times to help out goalie who ever is in Net and need a centre from the Ducks or Ariazsona. If possible .
Half their d is a problem, no LW and no bottom 6 huge fail in the off season and they may not even make the playoffs… terrible.

Berttuzzi is good only on the fourth line right now with what Treliving paid him and quit spoiling him on first 6 and place him on the fourth because he can not handle the Minutes in the top sixth and place him on Waivers to cut his salary down because he is not playing for what we are paying him and nobody going to claim him at 5.55 million dollars any way to open up more money on the cap to what Trevling needs to do on defence.

Allstar game is kind of watered down espicallay since it was in Toronto and it was about Connor Mc David and Austin Mathews and who were there going it to Most Valuable player but only Mathews which Mcdavid was happy with winning 1 million of in all planned because it was in Toronto and what esle did you think.
I agree with Steve – Jesse and Adam need to raise their expectations. The idea is to be a contending team, not a team that's just ok with getting by. Lilliepad is too soft and doesn't bring anything of value to the team. Even as a bottom pairing Dman, you need to upgrade.
So Toronto!!! as long back as Matts Sundin individual scapegoating is the method whereby the fundamental truths are replaced with a B.S. narrative–a soft poorly constructed team is the reality–the coach is out of his league-the fans were voted by the players poll to be the stupidest in the league yadda yadda yadda
What are we even doing anymore? How many players have been on this team that get scapegoated, move onto another team and play wonderfully? They have 4 players making over 10 mil who cycle slumps between them. No forward depth, 1 top pairing Dman and 2 guys who can maybe play top 4. The guy who, on average is the most consistent d outside of Reilly, cannot and is not the main issue.
Not to mention banking on an injured rookie being the number 1 goalie for the rest of the year.
Steve is over reacting (1st time ever I'm sure :P) Liljegren is a Right D, drafted in the 1st round, RFA at the end of the year and under 25, he can be traded to get us a top 4 D-man on an expiring contract for sure!!! I do however agree with Steve, I'm done waiting for him to turn the corner so lets trade him since he is still an asset.

Like if he is supposed to be a 1st round pick why is he used on 3rd pair, clearly he has no trust so try move him if he is worth anything for a physical defense.
The entire right side needs to be changed and run Rielly, McCabe and Benoit on left side.
Otherwise sell at TDL and build for next year .
Not related to Liljegren entirely but look up NHL turnovers 2024 , TML has 7th most that can not win a playoff round at all ever.
What Toronto pays their current NHL defensemen: $19.35M
Carolina: $30, Colorado: $29.8, Vancouver: $29.8, Boston: $28.6, NYR: $26.9, Vegas: $23.5, Dallas: $22, Florida: $20.3. The team hasn't invested in defense like other contenders have, in fact only ANA ($16M), ARZ (10.4), MON (13.1), and SJ (18) are lower than the Leafs.
You get what you pay for. Lilly is making 5-6 dman money, yet Toronto fans expect him to play above his pay grade. That's not how it works, because if he struggles, the team's only option is to attempt to insert another 5-6 (or lower) dman in his slot. Their cap has been mismanaged for years and this is the result.
The entire defence core except for Reilly and McCabe need to be revamped.

Why we still have Marner? Guy only shows up when its easy going, disappears in big games, and he get scared from teams that play physical, open up the cap space, get a legit dman for that wonder boy.
It takes longer for defencemen to fully develop. He is young and he will be a really good player in 2 or 3 years.
I agree with Steve. Lily, Gio and Brodie got to go. Leafs Priority is Defence but they could also use a left winger.
