Jeff Paterson on Bruins’ beat down of the Canucks, Pettersson at 5v5, shuffling lines, weekend games

JPat joins and carves the Canucks’ effort in Boston. Jeff is disappointed that such a big game went so meekly into the night. He looks at Tocchet’s comments, the star players, Elias Pettersson’s effort on a race with Danton Heinen, Höglander’s upward mobility, line juggling and the games in Detroit and Washington.

  1. we can just say it was just one of those games. but given who the opposition was and the build up to this from the rest of the league it's a huge black mark on this team. The players I mean. This was embarassing WHY would you be this wussy on this night of all nights

can we already say that they are 0-3 vs the best cup contenders and this means they are just not going to do it this year ? They just haven't got the experience for a deep Stanley Cup playoffs run. They're gonna need to go through this stuff, all the teams do . And all we can hope for is to win 1 maybe 2 series to provide the backbone for a proper run next year ( crossing fingers)

  2. I keep reminding myself that the Bruins laid their own egg this week against Calgary. Anything to relieve the mental anguish.

  3. One more point here….Kuzmenko has a bad year, Mikheyev has a bad year, and now other than on the PP Lindholm isn't exactly lighting it up, though its early of course. What's the common denominator here ? Yes thats right EP40 is the common thread. Maybe this guys not made to be a centre ? And if so is he then worth 12 million ? Are there better free agents out there ? 12 or 13 million is enough for maybe TWO top guys

  4. If I were Allvin I’d be testing the trade market for Petey this off-season. Don’t think he’ll be worth what he’ll be asking.

  5. For me, the losses to Philly are worse because you expect to win those. Boston is neck and neck with the Canucks in the standings. They were coming off a humiliating loss of their own and were clearly determined to reconcile that. Also, every single mistake ended up in the back of their net, and once it was 2-0, it was over. Boston did what they do and shut Vancouver down. The Canucks had to take a few risks to get back in the game and it cost them a couple more goals. Demko was hardly at his best, but when you don’t score, you don’t win. They’ve given up 4 goals in a game before and won. Hopefully this is a wake up call to the team. Also, it should be a different wake up call to the fans. Maybe this isn’t the best team in the league. They’re a very good team, but maybe as a team they’re not as good as the Bruins, unless Demko steals it, and he didn’t.

  6. This is what Jeff Paterson lives for – when Canucks lay an egg. Thank G-d, this year they didn't give him many chances. I really hope for a perfect season, so this weasel will finally go unemployed…

  7. Canucks could go 2-80, and as long as the two wins are vs Boston, that's an acceptable season.
    Loss yesterday was not acceptable.

  8. geez people… its only one game and let go of the past … thank gawd we have JR and PA to run this team as they think long term…

  9. Can they not put Lindholm at centre and Petterson and Mikey at Wing. Petterson is clearly weak at face offs and skating covering centre ice. Less responsibility to drive the line may be a good try for Petey!

  10. All the critics of the Canucks came out to gloat on this one. Looking at the schedule, here are the key games to show what they really got: Boston at home, Colorado x2, Vegas x3, Winnipeg x3, Dallas and Edmonton: Those are ten games to show what they really got…

  11. Every time the puck is on Mikeyev's stick he is doing nothing but bringing down that line. He isnt a playmaker or a finisher. Time for the 3rd line like seriously. And Petey thinking he is more elite than he is creating turnovers and costing the team games

  12. Can't be too hard on a team when they've collected points in like 12 straight games before this one. Rough effort all around and noticeably among the Canucks top players, but I think we have to acknowledge that this rivalry exists more among the fans and media than it really can among the players on the teams anymore. Outside of Marchand who was even involved in those years?

JPat was spot on though. I thought Tocchet directed his criticism in just the right way at just the right level of intensity. It was an ugly loss but a loss to an eastern conference team that was more about pride than real concern for the playoff picture.

  13. If only Patterson was playing for us yesterday. BOY HOWDY, he woulda gone up that ice and just changed it all !! 😂
My least favorite analyst , seriously, for a real commentary on yesterday's loss, listen to Drance on Canucks hour from today, he'll give you the real.

  14. The Canucks clearly didn’t believe they can match against the big bad Bruins after the short handed goal. They have a ghost inside their head.

  15. People forget the Rutherford "if everything goes right" quote. It's all gravy from here on in. I'm not expecting much so I won't be disappointed. That's what long time Canuck fans should do. Fingers crossed we claim that #1 seed but I've been a fan too long to know it's a lock.

  16. No, they haven’t lost a lot this season but the problem is the Canucks always seem to lose bad to Col, Vegas, and Boston. They fold like a cheap accordion
