[Johnston] Ryan Reaves, on the Ridly Greig empty-net slapshot: “If you rewind to when I came into the league he’s probably still laying on the ice. I thought (Morgan Rielly’s response) was appropriate. I don’t see how a kid that young thinks it’s appropriate to do something like that.”

Hes right. Now please bring on the fucking losers from r/hockey to act like they wouldnt want their team to do same. So fucking dumb when Leafs do shit that ANYONE wpuld and should not only are they penalized differently but others teams fan think its open season to run their fuckin irrelevant mouths

  2. BigFudge0224

Fuck it, we’re already the villians, hope the team leans into it…. About time

  3. Brandnewlions

The r/hockey thread for this is truly astonishing. One of the comments is like “Reilly is a grown man and he did that to a kid barely old enough to drink!” Fucking cry about it

  4. buktee123

Uh oh Leaf haters/karma farmers gonna have a field day with this one

  5. Showtime98

Lmfao Reavo is a breath of fresh air with his quotes.

I love the shit heads spewing the hate in the other subs. Fragile minds all over 🙂 love the unified response from our team, right or wrong it’s about effing time.

If Grieg was on the Coyotes and did this to the wild he still would have had the wild all over him. In no scenario does he get away with it unchecked and he doesn’t seems to have the sense or awareness that what he did would get a reaction. Nor did he have the mental capacity to defend himself apparently. So was he trying to turn himself into a victim? He was too much of a bitch to answer the bell that he himself rung.

My favourite part about this is how soft it makes the Ottawa Senators and their fans look… they are openly admitting to doing jack shit if the opposing team did the same thing to them as if there is something to be proud about being a bunch of pussies

Soft team, Soft fans, Soft organization who’s fan base is built off of bandwagoners who left Montreal and Toronto

  9. ISkateLikeShit

The hate is crazy that we’re getting. I’m leaning into it.

Welcome to the show fuck face.

If this happened on a Tuesday night game between Minnisoda and Nashville it would have been shown once on sports center, maybe a fine or a 1 game sussy (depending on history) and that would be it.

/r/hockey (and the shittier /r/nhl) are hypocrites.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. I don’t want to live in a reality where the Leafs did absolutely nothing.

  12. GregGolden6

Maybe it’s just me and for context I’m for being physical but it’s just a slap shot into an empty net, who cares?

  13. longbottomleaf11

Of course Reaves would say this. He’s a clown who gets payed to enforce an outdated “code” that says that anything you don’t like is punishable by physical violence.

  14. Negative_Pea_1974

Greig straight up looks are Reilly coming at him.. and turns his back to him. Then falls to the ice as if he had been shot..hes a little bitch.. looking forward to him getting his face smashed in next season when we play Ottawa again

  15. Not sure why anyone would care what reaves says….he’s one of the least valuable players in the NHL and the leafs are trying to get rid of him

So glad the team isn’t running back their comments. I see people on both sides trying to reference other incidents as justification yet we continually criticize the DOPS for getting it wrong anyways so how on earth is that of any value now.

The fact is it deserved a response, the stick rode up the shoulder pad, and the incidental contact should probably cost Mo a couple games max. Instead, we have these pearl clutchers screeching about how its not part of the game, completely trying to take the “moral high ground” argument about player safety, in a sport that allows actual fist fighting??? Give me a break, because of the current generation of internet dwelling fans combined with hyper intense focus on the Leafs, we get dragged for supporting our guy who has shown to be ambassador for the sport defending his team’s honour. 10 years ago its a 2 gamer and a complete non-story. I’d like to actually poll these “fans” in r/hockey to see if they have any semblance of the game at all beyond the karma farm echo chamber any major subreddit becomes.

  17. All these people sound like the Simpsons church lady when they talk about what Greig did. I just read it all in “won’t someone think of the children!!”

  18. BackTo1975

And the code on this is another reason why the NHL is going to make an example of Rielly here. The suspension will be stupidly long unless someone in NY has an attack of common sense before tomorrow afternoon.

  19. whatlineisitanyway

This hold incident really highlights how the Leafs live rent free in the heads of every other fan base.

  20. Falconflyer75

We can debate this all day long

What we have to hope for now is the other players stand by Reilly the way they stood by Sammy

When everyone was dumping on Sammy the leafs stood by him (Marner in particular) and it paid off

The leafs have a reputation that despite wearing the Jersey they don’t wear any of the rivalry’s or humiliations that come with it and thus other teams are free to (clown, diss and smack them around as much as they desire)

Never any retaliation, it won’t reflect in the intensity of their play at all

Reilly got sick of that and for one second showed that was not the case and everyone is now going to drag him through the mud

UNLESS the other players wake up, stand by him and play with the same intensity that he did in that moment, start taking this stuff personal

  21. Grandma_Swamp

I’m an Avs fan and everyone in r/hockey are being fucking babies about this. Like yeah probably shouldn’t have cross checked him in the dome but they’re saying shit like “Ummm if you don’t want someone to slap in an eng just be better!!!!!” You can tell they’ve never played a sport in their life. If someone does something like that you gotta let them know that shit isn’t ok and make them scared to try it again.

  22. hymensmasher99

The pearl clutching the r/hockey sub is hilarious man.

  23. So many fans of other teams in here complaining

Stay in your own fucking subs lol
