[Chris Johnston] As much as Sheldon Keefe was surprised Morgan Rielly got an in-person hearing, he added: “I think there’s a history also of events that happen in Toronto and with the Leafs that get more attention and more hype that tend to lead to something such as this.”

Oh man r/hockey is gonna love this
Sheldon has been a lot more outspoken this season. I’m here for it.
I think I’m most amused by how r/hockey and r/nhl is posting even more quotes the r/leafs and then proceeding to get their panties all in bunches over it lol
Another Sheldon W
The takes from r/hockey are so funny. People need to get a life. Its not that big of a deal.
Kid took a slapshot 3cm from an empty net and got hit in the face for it… Guy gets suspended for hitting kid in face.
This dosnt need to be national news lol. Shit like this happens all the time in the nhl.
I dont get the outrage.
This is kinda out of context because he states before hand how they looked at every similar suspension or fine for a cross check and none of them required in person besides Perron
r/Hockey is losing it still though
Because you posted this, Kadri has received a 10 game suspension.
I’m loving the new Dark Sheldon
That’s the truth. Glad Keefe addressed it.
This history is Colton Orr knocked Parros out cold in his last game ever. [https://youtu.be/dmEGlwmG_Hw?si=ADziGw9Ws0Aletsx](https://youtu.be/dmEGlwmG_Hw?si=ADziGw9Ws0Aletsx)
r/hockey acting like it’s not true when the only reason they care about it is because it’s the leafs
League doles out punishment based on the media response. Because they hate bad PR. If this happened in a Flames game or a Jets game it would be a fine and move on.
Leafs should put out a statement saying Parros isn’t fit for the job and get the Rangers to co-sign it.
I love how people are saying “what’s the big deal what Greig did” when the only reason he wound up to take that slap shot there was to incite a reaction or else he would have just shoveled the puck in the net like everyone else does in that scenario.
Good. We tried being quiet about it. Let the honest observations be told!
Then the Toronto media should make big deals about situations like what happened between Marchment and McCabe. Maybe a penalty will be called or something
The part they won’t put in the justification (do they even still do that?) Is that when more eyes are on the incident (due to large fabbases and national broadcasts) it makes the league look bad to people who might not otherwise see it.
This happens in a Phoenix/Nashville game in the high school and it gets 2 games max. Watch Rielly get 8.
Aka the League is a fucking joke. This clown should be fired but hes right about this 100%
Hey Chris Johnston why dont u stop looking for the obvious quotes and go hold the NHL and fake dops acccountable…. Ohhhhh because ypure a shill for the league and bettmans bitch? Got it. Fuck toronto media too
This is all a function of media attention. Toronto is a unique market; allow me to qualify that statement.
There are plenty of hockey towns with super passionate fan bases out there. None of you can tell me that the Flyers, Rangers, Oilers, Habs, Canucks, Blackhawks, etc, don’t have a clutch group of fans that would go to hell and back for their teams. We may be the largest (by demographic), but we aren’t any more passionate than they are.
What sets us apart is media coverage. When the Blackhawks got blown out to the Predators in the 2017 first round, I called a friend of mine and asked him to pick up their local newspaper. Do you know where the news of that loss was printed?
Page 17. This is an original 6 team. But the attention just isn’t there, not in the same way. Chicago sports is the Bulls, White Sox, and Bears way before anyone gives a second thought to the NHL.
Reilly’s suspension is all over our news and we don’t even know what the outcome is yet. We’ve got media doing CNN-style non updates about it. We’re analyzing when and where Reilly is skating during practice, and with who, and drawing conclusions.
The Leafs get treated the way they do because the media focus (and subsequent fan focus) is so intense. Everything is made into something. And I’d bet good money that if we could somehow all collectively calm the fuck down a little bit, we wouldn’t get all of these additional penalizations and scrutiny.
I wish we could take the cap away, stop supporting these poverty franchises, let them try to tread water financially on their own and see if they’d be disrespekkin
Make it a common occurrence. That’s how the Bruins got away with murder in their prime. Their entire mission statement could have been “they can’t call them all”.
There will be a period of pain, but it’s well worth it in my opinion and it’s best to go through it now rather than in the Playoffs where it counts.
This is the game, adapt to it.
Keefe speaking facts. I’m liking him more and more.
Going to repost this one last time:
Pepsi, Rielly and Grieg have the chance to do the funniest thing ever, and they better fucking do it.
r/hockey seems to be more triggered over this event than them claiming Mo was at an empty net slap shot lolol
Sheldon Keefe has been fined $5000 for his comments and Morgan Rielly has incurred an additional game suspension as a result of Keefes comments.
I mean he’s not wrong. Look at how the fucking refs were a few games ago and with their shit garbage calls to the point that sports host like on Overdrive called them out on it.
Love this. Don’t fire keefe.
Senators fans are being specifically so annoying about this. Praising Ridly Greig like some hero. My brother in christ that was your fucking stanley cup. A slap shot empty net goal. Too many levels of pathetic.
