Button: ‘A cross-check to the head can never be defended under any circumstances’

Is Morgan Rielly’s cross-check in any way defensible? What should we make of Ryan Reaves backing Rielly with his ‘make hockey violent again’ comments? What do we think of the Senators speaking out and supporting Ridly Greig? Director of Scouting Craig Button joins SC with Jay Onrait to discuss.

  1. Make Hokey Violent again? It still is violent. Regardless of the argument that it’s not a violent as it USED to be doesn’t change the fact that it still holds levels of violence to this day. Clown comment from a clown who plays 5 minutes each game

  2. According to many Maple Laffs fans, Rielly’s victim wasn’t hurt at all so a light suspension is warranted.

  3. It’s actually comedy that the organization, the players, the fans, are desperately trying to defend cross checking someone in the head while the play is dead. Absolute loser team and franchise.

  4. So you have no hockey experience yet you troll me? Why didn’t he just fight him instead of cross checking? Because he doesn’t know how to fight or a coward

  5. question is is it amicable for the team to be as dumb Bieksa and rosie ??

what if every player did something similar everytime they saw something that offended them?= we would have zero skaters eventually

  6. Anywhere but in the NHL this is assault, charges, loss of your job. Since this is the NHL, it’s a fine or a few games suspension. This has to stop. Hopefully with the next CBA owners make the penalties fit.

  7. Has he ever played? I mean….it did get high and hes gonna get games…But he doesn't seem to get you don't do what the kid did. And he will never do that again lol

  8. Ryan Reaves : "Make hockey violent again."
Average Fan : "We're actually enjoying the rise in skill level and tempo, neither of which you happen to posses."

  9. Ryan Reaves' "make hockey violent again" comment is right out of the playbook Donald Trump Sr, starting with his 2016 run for POTUS, often made (in the then-future POTUS's case, Make America Great Again). Sure the Leafs need "snot" or what some instead call "piss and vinegar," but what Rielly did was so over the top that he should be lucky to even get to play another game the Leafs play this week. Maybe he'll have to sit out however many games the Leafs still have to play in February.

  10. I loved the hit, lesson learned ya idiot… LOVED IT… BRING REAL HOCKEY BACK!!

  11. This is the first take on the issue I can agree with. Too much Toronto media is defending or rationalizing the play (or incident since it was post whistle) and quite frankly its disgusting. Much respect to Button for his integrity of the game of hockey
