  1. There is precedent.. Dale Hunter hit Pierre Turgeon exactly the same way. He got 21 games. Stop whining that he's only gonna get suspended because he's a Maple Leaf. Leaf fans are just as soft as their team. No wonder they can't cut it in the playoffs. This was not a hockey play. He was butt hurt that they lost and decided to literally assault the guy who scored. There is no rule how goals can or cannot be scored on the empty net. If you think he broke some code, then drop your gloves and settle it… but he chose to cross check him in the face. Not kinda in the face. If I was handing out discipline in NHL Reilly would miss games till the end of March. And the coach needs his pee pee slapped too.

  2. Maybe don’t be losing to a bad team and have to pull your goalie and allow an empty net goal? How about instead of cross checking him in the head you drop the gloves and challenge him like a man? Typical leafs cryin about doin dumb stuff to themselves

  3. Who cares you crosscheck somebody in the head you should get more than five games I don’t care who you are and what the situation is

  4. Reps should have called a fair game Reilly was hit in the hands 4 time no call and McCabe was high stick in 1st period of Saturday game no call and 4 leafs players was Triped in game no call and get call 4 time but Ottawa had zero call and reps should not be on ice if they not go to call a fair game and reps are being favorites to teams and needs to stop and call a fair game and hits like Reillys would not happen but NHL does nothing and wish Ryan Reaves takes out the reps for be byest.

  5. It's funny how everyone forgets how Montreal cross checked Simmons in The head and got nothing no fine no suspension nothing this league is a huge joke

  6. I will be putting a podcast together very soon to address these exact things … watch for me to be out on the airwaves with that podcast real soon !!

  7. after goal after whistle Rielly was wrong and deserves what he gets. Should have waited until next game like happens all the time. You hurt your team, that's your fault.

  8. The last comparable to this is Hunter taking out Turgeon after a game winning goal. The league needs to make an example of the action not the player involved. I person hearing so over 5 games and should really be a minimum of 10 games. this stuff kills the growth of the game and contributes to fewer and fewer kids playing hockey or staying in the game. the picture of damage is much larger than Rielley's action. Those in the media trying to justify this cross check are also hurting the game and continuing to promote the culture in hockey they say needs to change.

  9. What? I think you are being bias in saying that " Any other team this would be a 2 game suspensions but because it's the leafs" .. From a outside perspective being a Habs fan the common consensus has always been the leafs would get away with murder on a regular basis when it came to player safety.. It was a dirty move with intent to injure after the whistle had been blown. Ain't no place in hockey for this. No matter what team.

If you reverse the roles, Leaf fans would be calling for the guy to be suspended for 10 games. Put your fandom aside and look at this hit from a safety perspective. Don't compare it to other incidents. Mainly because there is not many incidents like this where a player loses their mind momentarily and tries to smash someone's teeth out for scoring on the empty net and breaking some unwritten jock culture code. Just look at the angles and you see the intent was there to pretty much decapitate the guy. the fact he kept swinging after the hit goes to show he was seeing red. Morgan Rielly lost his mind out there and did a really stupid move. Now he must pay for it. Plain and simple.

  10. Most suspended team since George Parros took over?? Really?? 2016/17 Season – TML Suspensions = ZERO GAMES, 2017/2018 Season – TML Suspensions = ZERO GAMES, 2018/19 Season – TML Suspensions = TWO GAMES, 2019/20 Season – TML Suspensions = TWO GAMES, 2020/21 TML Season – TML Suspensions = ZERO GAMES, 2021/22 TML Season = SIX GAMES, 2022/23 TML Season – TML Suspensions = FOUR GAMES. This is a total of 14 games over 7 years, Colorado has had 17 in the same time. Boston has had 26 suspensions in those same 7 years!!! This is why people hate the Leafs, because they have such a victim complex. Also why Grieg's clapper was so brilliant and a big FU to the Leaf fans who pack their house and cause the ticket prices to skyrocket so their own fans can't get in to watch the game. Maybe next time Leaf fans will think twice and stick to watching the Leafs lose in their own barn.

  11. Often players who are soft will use their sticks as they don’t have the guts to drop the gloves. The coward ness of a cross check instead of dropping the gloves long after the play was dead makes Hunters 21 game suspension the closest comparable case.

  12. Fine follow through with the hit or punch him but keep the stick down. There is no reason for the cross check to the head. How many players need to retire early due to concussion before the players get smart.

  13. Oh boo hoo….Leafland crying again.Everybody picks on us! If any Senators player did that to any Leaf …..a completely different story. Toronto would be on the warpath and want 8 or 9 games. Suck it up and take it like the rest of the league! By the way I don’t hear a word about losing the game and the series…..

  14. Someone insults my wife he's losing a few teeth. Yeah it will cost me but the bum won't do it again anytime soon.

I certainly hope that some other jerks try that again against the Leafs. I guarantee that he will get his just desserts served to him on a knuckle sandwich platter, GLOVES OFF and defend yourself a-hole.

It's too bad Reilly lost his composure, I cannot condone his response. Thankfully what's his name appears to be uninjured.

  15. Everyone one knows the league and the officials are always against Toronto I wouldn’t be surprised if they give him 6 games.

  16. I’m not a leafs fan but i love what reilly did. Its no wonder senators fans defend Greig. I seem to remember a classless move by their own captain (alfreddson) in the playoffs against anaheim.. something involving a clapper and scott neidermeyer….

  17. No injury. No bruise. Can’t suspend that as a nothing hit. So dumb. Ask to get punched in the face and then get punched in the face…. It should be a fine and that’s it.

  18. The maple leafs are on the big stage so the league will make an example of them. . Early in the season Marchand from Boston done a can opener on the leaf player he went into the boards a serious injury resulted not even a penalty handed out. If it was the other way around the leaf player would have been called up for hearing. The NHL is becoming bush league. Some of the refs and others on the NHL staff act like they are Gods gift to the NHL making it look bush league

  19. It’s very interesting to me that neither of you mentioned the obvious precedent set just this season for this very same thing. Perron got 6 games for “trying” to stand up for his unconscious captain. It was his first career suspension. Even though he hit the wrong guy, I would argue that Perrons emotional response was more warranted than Reilly getting butt hurt.

  20. NHL should abandoned the empty net rule effective immediately. No more pulling a goalie for an extra attacker…

  21. Matt Grzelick spears Pacioretty and barely gets off the ice. I don't even think he got fined. Grieg skates off the ice fine. Rielly barely got him clean and he gets multiple games? Rielly has 3 minors all season. And he's the guy you want to set an example of? Brad Marchand can put a guy out 6 weeks and not even get penalized. I don't think the dirtiest player in the league has drawn 6 games and he's a repeat offender. What a joke of a league. Same issue happened with Spezza. Face it, the league and officials are so anti-Leaf, it's sickening.

  22. I blame Bettman he hates the leafs and all Canadian teams.. he is a scumbag piece of you know what.. he has to go.. if anything Reilly should get a game or two but the kid should of got something as well.. at the very least a unsportsmanlike penalty

  23. Too much power coming out of Toronto controlling hockey game at the leafs play there is crooked as can be. It’s like the mafia lives in Toronto.

  24. When you look at the replay, it's clear Rielly didn't put any real force behind it, and also looks like Rielly's stick slid up Greig's stick, and I've had that same thing happen, and if anyone plays a fair amount of hockey the vast majority would have had the exact same thing happen.

Also, Rielly is known as a clean player who does get in the odd dust up and after years of solid play and battling he's never been known for ANY cheap bullshit.
So, when I consider the contact wasn't that hard coupled with Rielly's record and that fact some punk kid barely out of short pants pulls that shit I think at most two games. It leaves a sour taste but that's what I feel is justified.

Refs can help by calling players who engage in this kind of crap for "unsportsmanlike conduct" and perhaps the league can create rules where that kind of bs gets the goal called back.
    Jack ~'()'~

  25. The problem is that no one knows what the hell the precedent is. Perron 6, Matt Griz spearing fine, Marchand slew foot nothing. The worst injury there was from the slew foot. There is no consistency, which is why people from various fan bases are all angry. Problem is, as Steve dangle says, hockey is the best sport on earth combined with the worst run professional league.

  26. The one thing I know is the DOP has produced inconsistent punishment across the board under Parros' reign. I have not seen one NHL player who has seen such a pee-wee, 'f*ck you' move by a bottom 6 clown, ever. It does not excuse Rielly, but there is one definitive replay that shows him contacting Greig's shoulder pad before his stick rides up into Greig's neck area. You are responsible for your stick regardless of intent, so there will be a suspension.

Rielly, as a guy with a decade long 'clean' rep & having never been suspended before, I'm truly surprised it's an 'in person' hearing. That likely means 5-6 games which I think is excessive. Ottawa fans will almost certainly disagree. The media scrutiny involving Toronto, will likely factor in sadly.

  27. It’s clear from different angle shots that Reilly’s wasn’t aiming for the head. Grieg stuck his hand and arm out which deflected Reilly’s stick upwards. Reilly dropped his stick immediately. Anything more than a fine or a 1-2 game suspension is outrageous. Given the inconsistent calls on and off the ice the DOPS is looking to make statement. This hearing is out of order.

  28. He's gonna get suspended 5 to 10 games it was a hit to his head with a stick what do you expect for that kind of SHIT and it's not because he's a leaf

  29. Not Potential. He's getting suspended. I'm not sure how much support Rielly is getting. The hit to the head should be embarrassing for him.

I'm trying to imagine the hearing.
So you hit him in his head? With Your stick ? After the play was over? Do you have any mitigating factors you would like us to hear before we render judgement? You were mad because you lost the game and were being disrespected. Thanks That will be six.

The hit that this most reminds me of is Dale Hunter when he went after Pierre Turgeon in the 93 playoffs after Turgeon had scored the fifth goal in a 5-1 elimination game. Turgeon had his shoulder separated and the attack effected the outcome of the 93 NHL playoffs as Turgeon barely played again that year and couldn't play well.
The problem is he attacked the player with his stick to the head after the play was over, because he was mad. His feelings were hurt

    Dale Hunter got 21 games.

Rielly should take his 6 games and shut up. And rethink how he manages his anger. Oh and the attack from behind with the stick to the head is a chicken attack. If you are mad drop the gloves and ragdoll him and you wouldn't have all these problems.

Zero sympathy for Rielly, He made his decision. Live with it.

The Gallagher hit was way worse, nastier directed at the players head but in the flow of play and while facing the player. He got five.

  30. Just when you think the Leafs’ defence can’t get any more $hit; Reilly gets suspended and goes and proves everyone wrong.
