There’s Nothing Like a 4-0 Win Over the Canucks + Why Anothony Richard Was Recalled
It feels like spring outside on this Friday February morning but I’m dreaming of Bruins Canucks in June after our Boston Bruins defeated the league leading Canucks last night by a score of 40 a very familiar score let’s talk about that and more on today’s episode of Locked on Boston
Bruins you’re locked on Bruins your daily podcast on the Boston Bruins part of the locked on podcast Network your team every Day what is up Bruins fans and welcome back to the locked on Boston Bruins podcast I’m your host Ian McLaren and this is a Daily Show where we discuss all things spoke to be today is Friday February 9th and I want to thank you so much for making lockdown Bruins part of
Your daily routine free and available on your favorite podcast app and on YouTube We’re part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day and we are feeling great this morning after the Bruins shut out the Vancouver Canucks to enter into a tie for the league leading
Points with that very Team Four nothing score identical to what the Bruins posted in Vancouver 2011 game seven of the Stanley Cup Final and this very well could be a Stanley Cup Final preview once again if all the card s fall in the right place before we get into that a quick reminder
You can find the podcast at locked NHL Bruins on X threads Instagram and you can find me my dad jokes hockey thoughts ATC McLaren that noise you may hear in the background is Bessie the cat scratching at the mirror of the reflection of herself which is uh a little weird best
Anyways Lena omark made made 17 saves last night as the Bruins ended the Canucks 12 game point streak a 4- nothing win it was all Mark’s first shut out of the season a fantastic defensive effort highlighted by a couple of short-handed goals olark said he was very impressed with the effort in front
Of him they said beforehand that it wasn’t acceptable to do what they did last game which was that 4-1 loss to the Flames where they were outworked out hust L outperformed by the visiting team the guys really took it to heart all Mark said they came out flying Brad Marshon setting the example
Getting out there scoring a highlight reel short-handed goal and the Bruins just kept it going Danton Heinen scored a shorty as well while Pavo zaka added a goal and an assist and um David posar Charlie Coyle each had two assists to lead the way for the Bruins in this
One a complete team effort and uh we absolutely loved to see them defeat the Canucks in that fashion now as it pertains to marshand um setting the tone like I said with a short-handed goal early on it was the third fastest game opening short-handed goal in NHL history Wayne
Gretzky and Dirk Graham shared the record at 30 seconds and Marshon was able to do it uh just a bit further into the game than that his goal came at the 32 second Mark Danon heyen scored a short-handed goal at 1537 just a beautiful goal on thatr Demco while Morgan geeki scored his
Ninth and like I mentioned zaka put the bow on things with his uh 12th goal of the Season fourth of the night for the Bruins Marshon reached 25 goals in a season for the 10th time which is second in Bruins history behind Johnny musk and Charlie Coyle with his assists extended
His point streak to 10 games uh the Bruins yeah just an allout effort here they did have an even uh penalty minutes in this one 10 for the Bruins 10 for the Canucks and the Bruins of course were able to they didn’t score on the power play but they
Got those two short-handed goals which was just massive in this victory for the Bruins with the win Boston pulled into a tie with the Canucks for first overall in the NHL they each have 73 points and identical 716 Point percentages uh Vancouver still has the edge in terms of Regulation winds and
Gold differential but it was still a super impressive showing for a Bruins team that desperately needed a stronger effort after the game the other night against uh the Calgary Flames now uh Vancouver did have the advantage in shot attempts at five on five a slight Advantage but Boston had uh shot it was
Kind of a low event game five on five the shots were only 1815 in favor of the Bruins scoring chances were 1814 High danger chances were 98 in favor of the Canucks in all situations though the Bruins were on the positive side of every Ledger except for shot attempts they had more
Uh unblocked shot attempts more shots more scoring chances more High danger chances and slightly more expected goals and uh a well- earned victory for the Boston Bruins again after after a pretty poor showing defenseman heis lindom said it was a good challenge for them to get
Battle tested out there they talk a lot about process how it’s just one hockey game at a time they look forward to more training and getting to the next game but of course Vancouver is a really good hockey team and uh yeah full credit to them they played them very well they did
Get you know some lucky bounces especially on the Morgan geeky goal that I believe in off um Tyler Meers and Demco kind of misplayed the puck to set up the Brad Marshon goal but good teams find a way to take advantage of those opportunities and uh I mean the
Highlight of the night for me was Danon Heinen’s goal he was sprung by Charlie Coyle he split Quinn Hughes and Elias Pon to finish off the Breakaway uh roof on thater Demco who you know if you refuse a hug from Jeremy Swan there are consequences the universe sees this
And it came back on Demco on this night where he allowed four goals against the Bruins uh Charlie Coyle mentioned how the penalty kill hadn’t been up to par from where they started the year to get those two short-handed goals I mean obviously you’re not just killing the
Penalties you’re taking advantage of the opposition you’re not necessarily looking to score on the penalty kill but when the time is right and the opportunity presents itself you jump on it and it happened to work out that way because the Bruins were playing the right way according to Charlie Coyle not
Much else to be said about this one again it was a reminiscent score of game seven so much has to happen in order for these two teams to meet once again in the uh Stanley Cup Final they will play uh very shortly coming up on February
24th in Vancouver so it will be an opportunity for uh the Bruins to inflict more damage or for Vancouver to uh shake things off and level up the um the season series all right coming up we’re going to discuss the Matt potra injury once again and why it was Anthony Rashard who
Was recalled and later on we will preview Saturday’s game and we’ll do all that here as the podcast continues eBay Motors has everything you need to turn your car into an MVP here in 2024 You Can level it up to Peak Performance with a supercharger roof rack exhaust kit LED headlights and more

Once again for making lockon Bruins part of your daily routine free on your favorite podcast app and on YouTube and while you’re on YouTube check out locked on sports today the first ever national sports streaming Channel on YouTube and now you can also find it on Amazon Fire
TV locked on sports today is here for you 247 covering the top sport stories of the day with local experts and our national shows covering every League locked on sports today on Amazon Fire TV and YouTube discussed yesterday the season ending surgery for Matt ptra general manager Don Sweeney uh discussed that on
Thursday saying that there was a lot of discussion about what was me best for Maddie oh this was Jim Montgomery saying this actually in the end Sweeny and the coach talked with Matt and with his family and the people that advise him everybody was on the
Same page that this is what is best for him moving forward since he’s only 19 next year he’ll have a full summer to get prepared and if they waited then the summer was going to get compromised and so reading between the lines it was something that they could have waited
Till after their season to do but Montgomery said it would affect his ability to get stronger if they waited which is one area that he needs to work on for improvement in the NHL if they waited until the end of the playoffs and it’s a femon rehab then they’re looking
At him coming back with no training camp no strength development power development until the middle of November and then he’s playing catchup they didn’t think that was very fair to him and for the best thing for the Bruins moving forward um he’s going to remain in Boston throughout the recovery process
So he still be around the team and um again the overall assessment was that he can play in the league he knows he can have success in the league he has the hockey smarts the skill level and he has some areas that he needs to grow in order to get that quote
Unquote man strength According to Jim Montgomery to also get the stamina required to be a player uh that they don’t have to do the maintenance with resting him here and there so that he can play full-time next year he’s a big piece of what the Bruins have planned
Moving forward uh those are all reasons why I thought it was possible that he could be sent back to G prior to that 40 game deadline uh doesn’t sound like I mean he could have played in the playoffs but it I would have bet he would be in the
Press Box more than like similar to what they did with Tyler Sean when he was a a rookie you know um so we wish all the best for Matt ptra in his recovery and look forward to him coming back bigger stronger and ready to make even more of
An impact for the Bruins as a 20-year-old now a lot of people were surprised that the Bruins recalled Anthony Rashard from Providence as opposed to baby and lysel or Georgie merkulov and there’s a couple factors to consider here first Anthony Rashard has been redh hot as of late uh I believe he
Scored like 14 goals or something over his last 17 games don’t quote me on that but he had been playing extremely well so far for the Providence Bruins and really showing an ability to put the puck in the net you know merkulov ranks fifth in AHL scoring with 42 goals he would have
Been a a fantastic candidate to be called up but here’s the thing to keep in mind they have yet to put Matt ptra on LTI or even IR so his contract is still on the books they only have $61,000 61558 in available cap space and Rashad’s cap hit is only 775 compared to
Uh merkulov who’s at 925 and lysel who’s at 863 so as they approach the trade deadline literally every dollar counts when it comes to uh the cap and what is available at the trade deadline Rashard cheaper plus he has 38 points in 41 games so far this season including
A Providence High 19 goals so 0.93 Point per game rate he has yeah put in the work he was drafted in the fourth round of the 2015 NHL entry draft uh I don’t believe he has yet to play in the NHL and I mean it’s probably a situation
Where he might not even get into the Bruins lineup actually he has played 15 games at the NHL level uh two for the Predators 13 for the Canadians last season where he recorded three goals and two assists for Five Points 19 19 and uh 41 games this season
Last year for Laval 30 goals 37 assists in 60 games so he’s a proven AHL scorer and at age 27 he’s a guy who yeah could make an impact coming in to uh to Boston now of course he is currently listed as the 13th forward as the Bruins
Minus ptra I mean ptra was a bit of an extra anyways fourth line of Danton Heiden yesper bfist Oscar Steen Rashard is probably not bumping out Loco or yeah so maybe they’ll get him into a game here but the Bruins have a nice spread out schedule for the time being I could
See that maybe given giving him a look for Steen on the fourth line perhaps but it’s just a body to have up at the moment in case of injury and if they put ptra on ltir then perhaps they’ll have more cap space in order to call up a merkulov or
A lysel both of whom have played very well for Providence and who could make an impact for the Bruins but they elected to go with the guy who is cheaper because they’re not sacrificing skill he has scored 19 goals he scored 30 last year in the
HL and they get that extra cap savings heading towards uh the All-Star break so that’s kind of why That Shook down as it did now the Bruins will be in action again tomorrow afternoon against the Washington Capitals it is a 3:30 PM start and we’ll preview that game here as the podcast

Hood Financial LLC is a registered broker dealer Bruins will be back in action on Saturday taking on the Washington Capitals a team that’s uh kind of struggling here this season and may or may not be a playoff team they lost last night to the Florida
Panthers by a score of four to2 and uh so they’ll be looking to get you know back in the thick of it against a Bruins team that is coming off a huge win over Vancouver it’s the first of three meetings between these two teams they’ll play again in March and in April aletkin
Starting to heat up a bit he’s got four no sorry Five Points over the team’s last five games off to a very I mean can’t even call it a start anymore he’s only got 11 goals through 46 games which is very uncharacteristic of oetkin and not really helping his cause as he
Chases Wayne Gretzky’s record Dylan stro who you longtime listeners of the podcast will know he was a guy that I was hoping the Bruins would Target at some point he’s got 19 goals 33 points to lead the team uh tied with oetkin actually who’s got 22 assists the blue line they got John
Carlson and uh they’re coming in here though 36 and one in their last 10 and they’ve lost six in a row so the Bruins really need to keep the gas on and keep this team down when they can all right um Washington their offense is putrid 30th
Ranked their defense is okay 16th ranked their power play is 27th ranked penalty kill is 17th this is not not a very good team and not the capitals uh that we are used to seeing their core is getting a bit older although for whatever reason they just re-upped with Tom Wilson for
Like eight years they are currently seventh in the Metropolitan Division and they are how many points out of a wild card seven points out of the Wild Card race so pretty much cooked although I did trade for Charlie lingren in my fantasy pool and hoping that he continues to show the 912 save
Percentage he was pulled in their previous game in favor of Darcy keer keer played in the game yesterday against Florida and lost so I to expect lingren to be in there the Bruins for their sake hopefully he continues to uh to put in not the best best numbers but
Um for my fantasy team sake yeah you know no I’m not gonna say that anyways Bruins capitals 3:30 pm on Saturday afternoon the Bruins will be off from that point until Tuesday when they will continue this home stand against the Tampa Bay Lightning who were thumped last night by the New York
Islanders uh so 3:30 p.m. Eastern game no games Sunday so you can enjoy the Super Bowl and then the Bruins will be back in action on Tuesday a very very winnable game against the uh against the capitals here a team that is floundering and pretty much cooked all right that’s
It for today’s episode of Locked on Boston Bruins my friends and I hope you take care of yourselves take care of each other have a good good weekend enjoy the record-breaking warm weather well we’re having that up here anyways and uh I really do look forward to talking about hopefully another Bruins
Win on Monday if anything breaks I will be on the YouTube channel to discuss that and uh yeah keep on keeping on friends locked on podcast Network part of the locked on yeah your team every single day peace
The Boston Bruins shook off a disappointing loss to the Calgary Flamesd earlier this week with a massive 4-0 win over the Vancouver Canucks.
The win was fueled by a pair of shorthanded goals, put the Bruins back in a share of first overall, and provided a tantalizing preview of what could be come June.
Plus, Ian McLaren discusses why Anthony Richard was recalled over Georgii Merkulov or Fabian Lysell, and also previews Saturday’s game against the Washington Capitals.

Hahahaha , Bessie is always kicking around, last episode I think she was trying to mess with your B's hat and the Thorton book behind you 😂 Love it ! Last night was frickin awesome man !
We took the air out of the Canucks balloon pretty quick with 2 shorties in a row. The only time heard the name Lindholm was in reference to a Bruin. Doesn't get any better!!!
Aww, Bessie should be in front of the camera, being cute and adding tuxedo cat visual interest, not in the background scratching at her reflection in a mirror. That sadly reminds me of the time when Linus had to hug himself because his backup Tuukka wasn't into that goalie hug thing, haha.
Coming off that listless, skating dead performance against the Flames earlier in the week, this game form and result was needed. And that it came against another top club makes the win resonate even better. I doubt wins are easy against any NHL team but it's one thing to shut out a club like San Jose but another to demonstrate the tight defensive, energetic form against another team that's at the top of the table after looking completely out of it the game before. Not taking anything away from Calgary who I thought were full measure for the win.
So short-lived, another piss poor effort today, how can that happen, Monty needs to go, don’t care what their record is, he is doing something wrong, and we’re gonna get our asses handed to us in the postseason again
You should have watched the games wrapped around that one. Another early exit is coming.
