  1. As a fan of the team who picked 2nd overall that year (NJ,) I was initially bummed about missing Slafkovsky. Fortunately, scouting didn’t blow it, and the Devils wisely selected his good friend, Simon Nemec. So far, Nemec looks to be an absolute superstar in the making, as does Juraj. This is a great Hockey story, about two friends who are living the dream. You love to see it.

  2. He never needed to compared to all the other 1st overall. He just needs to be amongst the best of his draft year and he's been exactly that.

  3. Slaf has the same amount of point as jack Hughes in the same amount of game. Do I think he will pull out 100 point season like jack is able to, probably not, but I do believe he will be an annoying big power forward hovering the 80 point season

  4. It’s so dumb how people write rookies off after 1 year. Not everyone is McDavid Bedard or Matthews. Kid is gonna be good – Leafs fan

  5. I think he will be a star if he keeps showing up, being a presence on the ice and continues to seek to get better and better. That last point is what has me the most impressed. Everybody needs to chill and let him work with the team and the coaches. He's not even 20

  6. That PP pass to Suzuki was a natural PLAYMAKERS play, hands down. I dont think he has "arrived" yet, but he is definitely knocking on the doorstep. Habs fans, look for more and its only going to get better with him.

  7. What shock me is that he's both confident and down to earth. Watching his interviews and practices, you realize that he wants to learn and improve. It's never about being cocky. That's what will make him a great player in this league.

  8. Slaf is a different breed of player. Find me 1 other player who is 6'4 230+ lb at the age of 18 that came into the league right away and lit it up.
    Maybe Lindros?
Give Slaf another 3yrs. He will be a star

  9. Star. Definitely going to be a superstar! Question is can the Candians hang on to him…. I sure hope so!

  10. No ! You cant say he has arrived!
    But
He is a work in progress with much UP side.
Remember it took Guy Lafleur 3 seasons to arrive.

  11. There was no clear cut #1 in that draft. There were a handful of guys that habs could've taken and it all would've been a crapshoot as to who would be the best. So far, Slaf is looking like a good pick for them.

  12. Hes the best player on Montreal in 2-3 years with atleast PPG with 90+ point potential. That first line is what 22 average age? Even Suzuki is still developing. Im ready for the "typical Habs fan" "Habs homer" like responses but he has looked like our best play driver recently, never seen a player develop so much so quickly. Slaf has had more development in the last 2 months then another Habs European top 3 pick has had in 6 years.

  13. I think, he could be a star while only doing 65 points per year. Just by considering his game changing factor, he is already elite on puck checking and puck recovery, two factor that are not considered as good as scoring goals. But If every games he break so many potentials scoring opportunity for the opposing team, I think there is a great value to it. I'd rather have a 25 goals per year, that does not get overscored on the other end, compare to a 35 goals per year that has the worse +- of his team.
