  1. I chalk it up to the Toronto Tax. Michael Bunting had to be traded because the league wouldn't let him play for the Leafs. If the Leafs were a MLB franchise, they'd be like the Yankees, but because they play in the Gary Betman NHL, & they're a CDN team, they will never ever win a cup again.

  2. Consistent results would be amazing.I think put a computer analysis in without feelings or emotions and get a result.Would be interesting..

  3. The DOPS is a joke, the entire system should be built on consistency and it has consistently been inconsistent forever more or less. Don't even get me started on how the rules magically change in the playoffs surrounding length of suspension. Alex Pietrangelo tried to be an axe wielding Warlock and murder Leon Draisaitl last spring and only got ONE GAME, yet Darnell Nurse got an even up suspension for instigating a fight in the last 5 minutes of that game. The spirit of that rule is to penalize unnecessary violence in the waning moments of a game, but in reality, it is seldom enforced and the NHL does not care about limiting that part of the game. The DOPS seems to just use past rulings and certain rules when its convenient for them, it is maddening.

  4. Players aren't going to want to play in Toronto because of the bias. DoPS have literally made it hard to play in Toronto.

  5. Five games is egregious considering: the player was not injured, it is a first time respected offender with 11 years of clean hockey played, the hit deflected up off the shoulder pad (not direct to the head), and there was a clear bush league provocation of disrespect for the game. This suspension should have been two games to Rielly while Grieg should be fined for being a jerk disrespecting the game.

  6. People dont understand we arent mad the suspension was 5 games
Just be consistent or dont try and make a cheap example out of the leafs and then have it happen again and shrug and give them a slap on the wrist

  7. Penguins Fan since 1991 when I started watching hockey am still annoyed that Sidney Crosby got nothing for the mugging he did against the wild

  8. I totally agree with you here….every aspect of your argument, except that I played hockey for 35 years and I don't really understand the problem with what the Sens player did to deserve a cross check in the face 6 seconds into a done game. Go see the guy, trash talk if you must but fucking back it up by winning next game, that is what matter, wins! But not sure the Leafs are a team able to do that stuff. Good roster, bad team! Anyway, I'd like to hear your 2 cents about this topic one day: what do you think of the conflict of interest from the players association here, that has to protect both sides?? The victims and the aggressors…to me this is nuts!

  9. Morgan Rielly ABSOLUTELY should have laid the wood to Ridley Greig. AND he deserved to get suspended for it. Both things can be true at the same time. I wouldn't be surprised to see Toronto go on a massive winning streak because of the infusion of energy from the hit. This team has been a little bit lacklustre all season, and this might be the moment that flips the switch because Toronto knows they have a guy who is willing to stand up for the team, even though it might personally cost him. I'm a Montreal fan, but it's hard to fault Rielly for taking out a punk like Greig – he's the kind of guy you want on your team. But, yeah, five games is about right for what he did.

  10. As a Canes fan, I would be cool with the 5 games for the cross-check, but the inconsistency makes it difficult to deal with. If I was a betting man, I would bet that the next cross-check to the face gets 3 games at most. It's so hard to take this league seriously.

  11. buT mAh bLuE And wHitE taX
Perron was suspended for 6 games recently for a crosscheck to the head

  12. The only consistent thing about the NHL DoPS is inconsistency. Every team is on the receiving end of it at some point though so Leafs fans need to stop trying to claim the league is out to get them is all.

Welcome to the club, the league hates all fans equally and will make decisions to offend us all equally.

  13. hows it jerk behavior? its a goal either way regardless of how he puts it in. All it boils down to is Ridley hurt the feelings of the leaf players and the joke of a fanbase. Get a grip…also not a sens fan

  14. Lawsuits need to be filed against the NHL for anything to actually change. They'll never change until they have money threatened.

  15. Caveat – not a leaf fan

1 – Whether a player is injured should be irrelevant
2 – Intent should be relevant
3 – Timing of the offence (in terms of during play, after the play) should be relevant
4 – Type of offence must be relevant
5 – Punishment *MUST* be consistent, and if a type of offence will receive increased punishment, that *MUST* be communicated prior to the action it will be used to punish.
6 – Punishments should be greater during the playoffs, not lesser, which is how it seems to be currently handled.

The Department of Player Safety is an absolute joke. A particular offence should have a minimum consequence, with additional time being added due to aggravating factors – for example, 5 games for a cross check to the head, with additional time added for a cross check that happens after play is dead; additional time if it occurs in the playoffs; additional time if it is in retaliation.

  16. Red Wing fan here. When Perron did what he did in December I cringed and he got what he deserved. Leafs fans are arguing a moot point. You can’t cross check anyone to the head. Like Steve said. You don’t like that it happened but you’re responsible for your actions especially with your stick in your hands. He’s lucky it wasn’t 6.

  17. Leaf fans certainly do know how to make something their player did not about whatever it is their player did.
