Saying that the team’s playoff chances hinge on Grubauer indicates that they don’t watch Kraken games.
The Disney Bundle ad implies ESPN as a source, which explains the cluelessness of this take.

Goaltending has quite literally been the only bright spot this whole season lol. I’d say the season hinges on our forwards actually being able to put the puck into the back of the net.

Braindead take. We’re still in the running and to say it will come down to our tenders is laughable. One could argue Daccord is actually the reason we are in contention of a wild card spot. If they’ve watched our season they’d know there has been a complete lack of offense generated in the majority of our games and horrific defensive blunders.
Our chance to make the playoffs rests squarely with EVERY SINGLE PLAYER. We don’t have a marquee player that will bail us out. Every line must perform both offensively and defensively and play the entire length of the ice for a full 60 minutes.

The commentary isn’t great but 24th is a reasonable ranking.

If I’m being totally unbiased we’re in the 15-20 range for sure not bottom ten but not top ten. Great goaltending but we don’t have the forwards to shot lights out against opponents. Though I’ve seen many (even THG) write us off already even though it feels like every team except for like 3 have been outside of the top ten every other month or so.

if the OTL rules didn’t exist our record would be 23-31, so yes, its been a vastly inconsistent team and overall we are not a playoff team.
Dukefan_11
We have been playing Joey like it’s 1960, and he’s been fading as he has been tasked with playing so much. Grubi being able to play at least one game a week would help make sure Joey was able to be at his highest level (also Hakstol would have to abandon his commitment to run whatever goalie is currently hot into the ground before switching to the other guy) Also Grubuaer’s excellent play in the playoffs last year might be the only thing anyone on the east coast remembers about our team.
Overall though, yes we really are 24th position bad. We’re 8 games below actual .500 and the team has not been able to get it done when necessary (such as the St. Louis game we lost in overtime and needed a regulation win against a team fighting for the same wildcard spot). It would take more than just excellent goaltending and renewed scoring to get into the last wild card spot, it will also take a collapse by multiple other teams that are ahead of us.

That article tells me they don’t watch Kraken hockey. Playoff chances hinge on this teams offense. Daccord is the guy and has been a top 5 goaltender. Getting out shot every night is not great.

24th is disrespectful
give us like 18th imo. where’s the respect 😤

Well if nothing else, they’re at least that confusing. This team confounds me but I sure do love them.

I don’t think we’re that bad. Not top 10, but probably right in the middle somewhere. Defense has been lackluster in the last few games I’ve watched, but the offense is putrid. It’s like letting Sprong and Geekie go killed any momentum we had last year

The national medias ignorance wrt the Kraken is pretty appalling. They read stats sheets in isolation. They didn’t even dig into trends. These lists are pretty useless but they did their job (got you to click) so what do they care.

They have to change the power rankings every week and say new things every time. I wouldn’t take a single week’s power rankings as an example of where we truly are or even where the author thinks we truly are.

This journalists’s power ranking justifications have been horrendous this season, I don’t think she actually follows most of the teams. There’s at least one other person who writes them that isn’t terrible, but Kristen Shilton is absolutely clueless. Two power rankings ago she claimed we suck solely because we didn’t re-sign Morgan Geekie. Now she claims our postseason chances depend on goaltending. I’d say our chances actually depend on putting the fcking puck into the net and preventing dangerous shots from happening (looking at the shot chart from last night’s game, yikes). Funny how our win against the Bruins has her changing her stance although still tone-deaf.
We need our defense to help our goalies out (we have allowed an insane number of breakaways in recent games) and our offense needs to make controlled zone entries while maintaining possession closer to the net. When defenders pester us to the point where we can’t effectively enter the o-zone, we usually resort to chipping the puck into the corner and racing for it (9/10 times it leads to a deadlock and a coin toss on who actually gets the puck). We tend to take so many shots from the blue line rather than closer to the net, which leads to inconsistency in scoring, higher chances of the shot being snagged for a faceoff (we are 25th in the league for FOWs), and overall makes it frustrating to watch so many SOGs not convert. It’s almost like we get frustrated when the other team’s defense won’t let us do what we want, so we resort to quantity of shots over quality just hoping a few will sneak in.

The people who write these blurbs don’t have any in depth knowledge of the teams because they are covering the entire league on a weekly basis. And how much actual depth could you get into in 100 words or less?

Could ESPN be any more obvious they don’t pay attention to the Kraken or hockey in general.
The goaltending of Joey has been the one thing giving them a chance.
The scoring is what is killing them. Pretty obvious without having to do much analysis.
Lazy ass ESPN writers… pretty certain ChatGPT could summarize their season more accurately.

This is the laziest fucking take. It’s like the author was like “Seattle? Uhhh [reads smudged writing on hand from last year] Grubauer something something]” like hello he isn’t the only player on the team, we don’t live and die by him 😂
