Lesson: trade futures for good players

    Lesson: hit everything that moves

Unsurprisingly, Harrington didn’t mention the biggest lesson that’s to be learned from the Panthers.

Their core of Barkov, Huberdeau (now Tkachuk) and Ekblad didn’t accomplish anything until 20-21 when Barkov was 25, Huberdeau 27 and Ekblad was 24. The only players under 24 on that team who played any sort of substantial role were Tippett (21) and Luostarinen (22).

The lesson, of course, is that it’s crazy to expect a team as young as Buffalo to make the playoffs.

The question is, do you want Adams to subtract from this fledgling core in favor of chasing short term gains, like Ottawa? I don’t. I’m ok with watching the team mature and grow together. Eventually Adams will have to make some tough decisions and add/subtract to fill holes and tweak the lineup, but there’s not much he should do now with the pieces he has in place other than wait for the core of this team to mature.
