Frank Seravalli on if Canucks will pursue Kessel or Ristolainen, Flames plan with Tanev & Hanifin

Frank Seravalli from @dailyfaceoff2563 stops by to talk about the Canucks’ interest in free agent Phil Kessel, whether there’s any smoke to the Rasmus Ristolainen rumours, Calgary’s quandary with former Canuck Chris Tanev and Noah Hanifin, and former Canuck Nick Dowd fetching a first-round pick?

  1. Ristolainen for Myers straight up. Flyers retain half. We’ll take the Flyers “bad contract” off their hands. Maybe they throw in a 3rd too.

  2. I'd rather they got a 4-5 defenseman than a forward, but if Twinkletoes is that cheap and the team can bury his salary in the minors to save cap if it doesn't work out, sure. Ristolainen I don't think is the guy, though. He's a bit like Myers, in that he's inconsistent defensively and on a Tocchet coached team, that's not going to work. They really need a defensive rock at the #4 position. Someone who will be sound positionally, smart, and won't make many mistakes. Whether he provides offence or not I'm not concerned with. Defence wins championships.

  3. Gotta be a cheap option up front. Duclair, Sprong etc. Gotta be a cheap option on D Seeler, Lyubushkin etc. Already spent enough on Lindholm. Fingers crossed Soucy gets healthy and plays well.

  4. No thanks on Risto I doubt management is seriously considering taking on that contract. If they pick up a defenseman it won’t be a big splash.
