Rielly Suspended 5 Games, Ullmark Fined, McDavid’s 6 Assist Night, February 14th Preview

Rielly Suspended 5 Games, Ullmark Fined, McDavid’s 6 Assist Night, February 14th Preview

Welcome back all right so we got three games tonight in the National Hockey League which means news of the day video and preview rolled into one for your Wednesday February the 14th otherwise known as Happy Valentine’s Day or just February the 14th and we don’t want to

Talk about it so um of course yesterday the suspension came out right before the games started so we’ll talk about it now Morgan Riley gets the five games for the cross check on Ridley Greg uh right around where the expectation was after the pon hit very similar to the pon hit

So makes sense uh five games uh he is expected to appeal this seems to be the thing now that uh when a player is suspended they’ll appeal the suspension if it’s a lengthy one uh of course the expectation is it gets to Gary bman Gary bman likely upholds the appeal uh but

Yeah we’ll see what ends up happening there but yeah Riley is expected to appeal and they find olark for a Stick Swing last night a high sticking incident as they’ve termed it uh on aimont uh and basically asmon crashes the netar swings the stick if it had

Really connected we’d be looking at a suspension for sure it’s a fine cuz he didn’t really connect it’s just more of a don’t do that kind of thing uh which I’m totally behind uh stick swinging not a big fan uh rather not see it in the

Game so yeah um at any rate it it just it’s it’s the same kind of thing is when the goal tender you know hits the guy with his blocker if there’s a guy in his in his face like it’s it’s very similar but anyways that way people who want a

Suspension are happy and people who say really for that they’re not happy either so it works plus if you want to see substantial fines this isn’t the one either uh so good news for Canuck fans at least I think so we’ll see what the the the mindset is with kuu fans on this

It looks like Phil kastle’s going to join the team he’s going to be in abbottsford so I’m wearing my abbottsford conu shirt um and Phil if you want to know where to eat around here by all means reach out uh but at any rate yeah um Castle’s going to be

Working in abbottford this week uh he is expected to join the Canucks I would think as soon as next week they probably just want to make sure he’s up to speed and good to go but Phil Castle joining the Canucks I didn’t have that on my bingo card there are so many Canuck

Related items that have taken me off guard and if you told me Phil Kastle was going to come back for maybe a shot at a Stanley Cup and it might be with the knucks uh my answer would be the Stanley Cup the like the NHL Stanley Cup anyways

Um all the best to Kastle and and hopefully this signing goes through soon and they can get him in the lineup I think it’ll be great uh Conor McDavid so last night he broke his own uh at least his own personal record with six assists he hasn’t done that before uh ends up

One shy of the record uh Billy Taylor Senior and Wayne grety have the record with seven assists in a game and he’s uh tied for third in points in the NHL with David poock uh COV is 13 points ahead of him with 90 does anybody want to bet on

McDavid not getting to tie at least tie COV by the end of the year I don’t uh McDavid just has this ability to do it I will agree to with the announcers last night that said it doesn’t feel like it’s top of mind with McDavid this year

That the the chase of the points to title is not as important to him uh he’s more geared towards the team uh but yeah he may still end up leading the league in scoring anyways cuz he’s that talented so we’ll see what happens but at this point COV is the leader 90 point

Is still ridiculous but mcdavid’s got 77 so it’s possible plus keep in mind that if he ends up with 150 points this season that would put him exactly at 1,000 points for his career so yeah it it’s it’s possible I I know it’s not probable it’d be a lot of points in a

Very short period of time but it is McDavid and he had six points last night so he you know if he has say 25 points in the next four games huh you just never know uh Rasmus toan who’s been been the subject of trade speculation uh

He’s going to undergo a procedure in 2 to 3 weeks uh and then he’s going to be reevaluated at that point they’re going to give a timeline it doesn’t sound like rist align is likely to be traded before the trade deadline uh so that contract would stay with Philly until at least

This summer if that’s the case uh rist aligning again I think it’s the contract people get mad at I think his play has been all right this year it’s just the the the cap hits a little bit high for what he provides at this point to the

Philadelphia Flyers but let me know your thoughts as to whether or not you think the Flyers should be trading around players cuz I I don’t know that they necessarily should I think if anything maybe they should be looking at adding but hey crazy right all right so we got

Three games tonight in the National Hockey League two of them starting at 7:30 Eastern 4:30 Pacific and then two hours later the late game gets started so still relatively early night for me uh 7:30 Eastern 4:30 Pacific the Florida Panthers and against the Pittsburgh Penguins uh for the the Florida Panthers

They’re 3315 and four and they’ve won both of the first two meetings with Pittsburgh so this is their third and last meeting uh December 8th Florida wins 3 to1 January 26th it’s a shootout win 3-2 for the Florida Panthers uh Florida’s 62 and two in their last 10 to

Get to 3315 and four uh Sam Reinhardt is quite the concern good luck containing him 39 goals 25 assists 64 points on the Pittsburgh side they’re 23 19 and 7 overall they’re three four and three in their last 10 Jake gensel apparently holding up the trade market Pittsburgh

Still deciding what they want for him I I don’t know if you even bother trading gensel cuz I I don’t know if Pittsburgh wants to just throw in the towel I don’t know if they want to still go for it if they want to still go for it they’re

Going to want to get somebody back they’re they’re not going to want to just you know bow out of the playoff race and losing gensel would be huge he’s got more than a point per game he’s got 51 points I think it’s 48 gam he’s

Played 48 49 games so yeah uh the 22 goals would be difficult to replace as well we’ll see what happens there 7:30 Eastern 4:30 Pacific the San Jose Sharks and the Winnipeg Jets uh these teams have split the first two meetings I’m half tempted to call this a trap game

But Winnipeg should know better uh San Jose won December 12th by a score 2 to1 January 4th it was a 2 to1 win for Winnipeg so they’ve been close uh San Jose is now 1432 and 5 but you know what over their last 10 they’re 53 and two what’s interesting is they’ve been

Playing well since kachur came back but he’s not producing he has one assist in six games since returning so we’ll see what happens at the deadline with San Jose the expectation is there’ll be some selling uh and and we’ll see what that looks like and what cachur spot is on

This team uh in the future on the Winnipeg side they’re 314 and five they are four five and one in their last 10 it has not been overly pretty uh eers 16 goals 20 assists 36 points he is amongst the Winnipeg Jets players who’ve been struggling to get points there’s been a

Lot of struggling to get points from Winnipeg Peg Jets players recently so uh eers is a guy that if if anybody can get out of this mess it should be Nick eers 9:30 Eastern 6:30 Pacific the Minnesota Wild and the Arizona Coyotes beat up these are teams going in very much

Opposite directions uh and Arizona won 6 nothing January 13th now we’re a month later things have really changed since that matchup uh these teams will meet again March 7th and March the 12th so they meet four times uh Minnesota’s 24 23 and 5 however they’re s and three in

Their last 10 they’re getting better uh the win over Vegas was very impressive we’ll see how they do against Arizona uh Baldi 18 goals 20 assists 38 points playing quite well lately on the Arizona side they’re 23 24 and four they are 2 six and two in their last 10 so it

Hasn’t been that pretty lately LW and kuss 19 goals 10 assists 29 Points so right on the verge of 20 goals for Krauss should end up with about 25 to 30 by the time the Seasons done uh but for Arizona I think there’s a lot of good

Good messages when it comes to their Player Development this year a lot of good take from this season but it it definitely looks like playoff hopes have faded uh for Minnesota Playoff hopes are still likely Out Of Reach but if they can win seven out of every 10 from here

Who knows uh let me know your picks for tonight’s games in the comment section below and of course your thoughts on any of the items on the board as well uh don’t forget to hit like And subscribe in the event you haven’t done so already thank you guys so much for all your

  1. It'll be cool to see Kessel celebrate being the 99th 1000 point player after all the flack he's gotten over the years AND it looks like McDavid will be the 100th all time after him. Kinda neat.

  2. Rielly didn't get enough for that.

2 fights/game dropping to .5 fights/game "to look less violent" hasn't made the game safer, just the retaliations in frustration worse.

I'm getting tired of "THE NHL IS BETTER" commercials. No. No, it's not.

  3. Ullmark got fined for swinging his stick at a player. Imagine if Billy Smith was playing now. He ruled his crease, and you paid the price if you entered it, especially if you crashed the net

  4. Thank you Shannon, for not dunking on the fact that McDavid got his 6 assists against Detroit. It was low hanging fruit, and you passed it by. Very big of you.

  5. A suspension for Rielly is fine. I don't think anyone expected him to get off scott free.. retaliate, yes, but that crossed the line.

But 5 games is absurd when you look at some other incidents that have gone unpunished, or with much less punishment: Edmonson's cross check on Simmonds. Bennett's cross check on Bunting. Grieg's cross check on Dubois. Chiasson's cross check on Vesey.

I'm not questioning George Parros' standards, I'm denying their existence.

  6. 5 games is too long, and im saying that, and i despise the leafs. I feel they are trying to make the game way less physical than it needs to be. Also i would love to see Phill the Thrill in a Canucks uniform soon !!!! 🍔 🍕 🍺

  7. This probably isn't original. I had this come across my thinking meat before going to sleep the other night. Fines are inequitable. I think they should be based on play time. Minimum fine would be a period's pay, then a game. If it's bad enough the player plays free for up to five games, or 2 or 3, whatever they figure out. Also if a player got fined by player safety the previous season then fines for the next season start at a game with negotiated exceptions.
Yeah the NHLPA would never agree to it. On 5 mil, a period would be over 20 grand.

  8. Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful. – Albert Schweitzer

  9. Can't wait to see Kessel back in the NHL, very happy for Canucks fans! Kessel should definitely reach out to you for dinner sometime Shannon!

  10. Briere: "We are interested in exploring a possible trade of Rasmus Ristolainen."

31 other GMs: "Yeah, we would want rid of him too. Good luck!"

  11. So looking forward to the Saturday game between the Jets and the Canucks. The Canucks are a Stanley cup contender and also perhaps the best team in the league. It will be good to see how they stack up against the odds favorite, as a measuring stick for how far they must go and improve over the final 31 games heading into post season play.

  12. Sorry to see Risto is hurt, but YAAAAAY! That means he's not getting traded! I love Risto and I think when he's been out there and healthy he's been a defensive rock back there
